HARTS ISLAND is a Walking Simulator with an excellent visual style, some cool locales, and god-awful dialog that ruins the experience. I was initially pretty interested in what HARTS ISLAND would offer, as its cool visuals immediately had me engrossed and its surreal environments with floating skulls and giant bottled ships in the background offer something truly interesting to behold. The ambiance of the game is quite relaxing to wander around to and from each of the locations, taking in the sights in the stark black-and-white 'sketch' aesthetic. As you wander around you find recorded messages from the game's main speaker. Unfortunately, upon triggering these dialog sections the game's voice actor meanders on and on and on - peppering his lines of dialog with cursing aplenty and coming off more as listening to some pissed-off, completely smashed drunk friend rambling on and on incoherently about their woes. The game seems to be trying to make a statement about mental health, coping...
Lunato might later prove to be a guy to go into textbooks on how to do interactive poetry. I couldn't care less for the unfortunate foul-mouthed actor the story hinges upon, but the way that story is delivered is simply stunning. Everything is in its place. All is dreamlike. Very good. Very-very-very good.
for a dollar sure. make your own mind up about it. you could google "Christian Bale rant" and load up some mc eschers for a similar experience.
I love me a good walking simulator. That ain't what you'll find here.
I love a good narrative game and the visuals are at least interesting, but walking slooooooooowly across big maps while a drunken asshole curses at you is just not how I want to spend an hour
The art and sound design really set a mood
art trip. this game looks like pencil drawing.
I love the environment and look of this game, and in fact I love it so much that I'm still giving this a thumbs up even though I couldn't figure out how to increase the default walking speed (since Shift doesn't seem to do the trick) and that I got stuck behind a building after 70 minutes of being screamed at by audio samples of a man who only knows how to say the f word it seems. (Devs, if curious you can walk behind the building where the man is going on the rant about 'I'm not getting home till 7 pm so you got all f***ing day to do it' and then he yells about the seafood. If you walk back there and behind that little hill, there's no way to get back out). edit: dev has responded that that spot is fixed, so that's great and the sprint key is a toggle and not a hold-to-sprint so I just simply missed that and the game isn't to blame. For the price and environment, it was always going to be a positive review from me but glad to know those other things aren't problems either.
Nice canvas styles graphics and surreal environment, I finish this game. I hope there will Update for Subtitles. https://youtu.be/vdpbU3H9hrw
