About This Game

Spellbearers is a top-down, 2D, twin-stick shooter mechanically inspired by the classic SNES game, “Super Smash TV.” Geared towards those looking for a game wrapped in nostalgia, it has a modern look and retro atmosphere, not unlike older “Legend of Zelda,” “Gauntlet,” and “Castlevania” games.

Casting powerful spells, battle against hordes of magical enemies to liberate the rulers of three kingdoms that have been overtaken by dark forces. With staff in hand, do you have what it takes to uphold the title of The Spellbearer?

STORY

Darkness sweeps over the mythical world of Spellbourne, out of which emerge beasts and monsters that were said to have long been banished. An evil force has brought them back and must be stopped. This darkness has invaded the three ruling kingdoms of Spellbourne, their rulers overtaken and transformed into hideous and destructive monsters. If there is to be any hope in defeating this evil, all three kingdoms must be saved by restoring the rulers back to their original forms.

Amid the ensuing chaos, Four legendary heroes arise to take up the call. Destined to forever shoulder the burdens of magic, they are known only as the Spellbearers.

Select your Spellbearer and fight against the hordes. You can join the cause alone or with a friend. Choose the Spellbearer that best represents your own soul.

Torch your enemies and stop them from progressing against you and those you protect. You wouldn't want to know the chaos that will commence if failure occurs. Precision and speed are key to success, but the freezing cold may determine the result. The icy terrain will be used against you by the enemy, therefore, you must find your own advantage points to proceed through the frozen dungeons.

Bring down the epitome of evil with your cunning and wits. Mistakes are unacceptable, and the enemy is pristine.

The enemy is strong, but each has its weaknesses. Abnormities and demonic abilities are against you. Can you survive long enough to expose it?

Grab a Friend

Take a friend on the adventure and work together to prevail against the dark creatures. But remember that your enemies will do whatever it takes to fulfill their objectives.

The game feels really good to play. The controls are tight and aiming feels smooth and natural. I spent a good 30 minutes just using the buttons without realizing you could use the other joystick even. the bosses are an absolute standout with incredible design and unique intuitive vulnerability mechanics. II really enjoy the art design from the almost nightmarish bosses to the cartoon player avatar the game is without a doubt delightful to look at. The power ups were all enjoyable as well. Each one had its uses and purpose and i always felt obligated to snag them whenever possible. The game is definitely a challenge but you start to get accumulated to the mechanics very quickly. It's a game where you get better just by virtue of playing rather than leveling up. The music is incredible and i would listen to on its own if it was available. On the downsides i did tend to lose my character in the particle effects leading to my death more than a few times, and the sights and sounds...

[08/20/23] I will preface this review by saying I do not normally play games like this, and I have never played Super Smash TV before, the game that this is supposedly influenced by. That said, I have had a good deal of fun trying out this game and have a few things to say about it. WIthout further ado, let's begin. Some small issues I encountered when playing: - When booting up the game, the resolution defaults to 320x200 60hz. I was unable to see any of the menu items clearly. It was not without some assistance before I could select the appropriate menu options to adjust to my desired resolution (1920x1080 60hz). As a consequence, I was not able to read the opening sequence without having to change the resolution, which can affect one's initial impressions of the game. Of course, this issue could vary depending on what system the game is installed on. - No option to stop autoplay text. During the scenes that describe the story before getting into the gameplay, you are given...

This game has good potential and so far, playing this game has been very interesting and I enjoyed playing it for the most part. However, it severely lacks content outside of the story. I was able to complete this game in under an hour and a half unfortunately. I would’ve loved to see more love and time put into the spells and skills into this game. Because whenever I was playing, I found myself relying on just four separate skills being the lightning, flamethrower, shield, and the tornado the most. Every other skill was just there, and it really had no importance when those other skills did the job better. So, if the game had a skill-tree or other kind of upgrades certain skills or changes their effectiveness it would give the player the opportunity to come up with creative ways to explore and get through the game as well as builds/setups or even one ability to be able to hold on to until a dire situation. Overall, I thought this game was good and could be even better though the ga...

Spellbearers is really easy to pick up, especially for a casual gamer like myself. It being a multi-player game makes it even more enjoyable. The bosses are so creative, it's intriguing to find out who or what the next boss is going to be.
