About the Game

THE SHORE is a game about the mystery of the unknown, set on a forbidden island filled with horrors. Based on the works of H. P. Lovecraft, the story features many of his best-known creations and more. Players will see the world through the eyes of Andrew, a father in search of his lost daughter. Players will experience The Shore through immersive, atmospheric gameplay and encounter the most nightmarish Lovecraftian entities, all while solving mind-bending puzzles. Try to survive as Andrew as he endeavours to save his daughter’s life and, perhaps, uncover the secrets lurking within his own sanity.

Presented with a Lovecraftian style, As players dive deeper and deeper into the mystery, they’ll face overwhelming odds, Andrew's moments that will make you question his sanity, and a series of slow-burn scenes. It’s only by mastering the artifacts of the old gods combat mechanic that they can stay one step ahead of the darkness that tries to swallow the world of his, but will that be enough?

With the ghost of an action/mystery/horror play style and the mind of a psychological thriller, The Shore's dramatic atmosphere, deep and multilayered story, and exceptionally tense, horrific combat sequences provide players with an overwhelming and stunning gaming experience.

The Good: Visuals are absolutely stunning. It takes skill to convey cosmic terror and dread and there must have been a lot of work that went into the level and character design. The scale of horror in various scenes is just very impressive. I hope the designer gets to work on many more projects! The Bad: I think this game wouldve worked better as a puzzle/walking simulator. The combat was meh. Something to slog through to get to more artistic visuals. The Ugly: Story very generic. When dealing with such cosmic elder gods, I think you really need to lean into the fact that whatever "human" avatar the player is playing as...should be absolutely insane. Like, the story should be playing with terrifying enigmas of existence, infinity, and the finite-ness of man. man is smaller than ants to these deities, smaller than bacteria. These god's take shits that form into realities and dimensions. honestly, what might more sense for The Shore 2 (hint hint, wink wink) is playing a...

If you think of it like a virtual walking experience of a Lovecraftian art gallery, it's not too bad.

I bought this on sale because I like Lovecraft and I had fun playing it for the 4.3 hours that it took me to finish.

What in Tarnation is THIS?! Well, this is what happens when an extremely inexperienced developer over hypes and MASSIVELY under-delivers. I remember following the progress of this one years ago being duped into thinking it was going to be the next big thing, well, it ain't. This could have been made 17 years ago when those cheap bedroom project walking puzzlers were very popular - Bottle, Drizzlepath, Old City Leviathan etc - and it that respect The Shore is a very enjoyable throwback to those times that will hit that nostalgic spot for you - and that is where it should have been left. However for the price it is, and the degree to which it's been buggered up, with unfixed bugs, softlocks, bad design, glitchy hit detection and general cluelessness as how to craft a full, cohesive product I can't recommend it. As a pure walking puzzler it's very good, but then it tries to be Outlast - and completely buggers it up. Then it tries to be mission driven (trying to find your lost dau...
