Curator page here--> DaRevieweD 56 <-- New review every Sunday
Genius Slackers debut is loosely based off a real-life tragedy where a neighbor of game director Arash, took his own life. The incident left family and friends lost for words as everything seemed fine with the victim. And to think I only got knee deep in research because curator connect offered it to me- otherwise I wouldn't even realize I already possessed it from a previous sale XD. Granted, themes dealing with mental health are more widespread in video games. Though they tend to revolve around fictional premises (up for debate) such as in Town of Light, The Missing or Detention. Usually handled with respect and educate us on lesser known intricacies of mental disorders but others exploit or phone it in by slapping them with "psychological horror." What Happened (WH) is smack dab in the middle of that spectrum. It...

Nice Game. Horror, Dark, Interface was awesome. Creative and immersive, that's how I'd describe What Happened. This game is a journey through anxiety and depression of a high school student, Stiles. From a gameplay perspective it's a Walking Simulator/Psychological Horror. What Remains of Edith Finch is probably the closest similar game that I remember, but What Happened is definitely a unique project.

for one, the story for me is unappealing and interface made my eyes hurts. i understand there is a lot of subtlety in this game but i don't get it at all due to confusing and flickering lights all the time. I don't quite recommend this game for those of who do not wanna dive deep into the game.

A game for the ages. Some games are played for fun. Others played for the sake of escapism. Once a generation however a game comes along with social commentary so powerful that it rocks the very foundation of the fabric we consider to be reality. What Happened? The titular theme theme of the game in question. Now a personal anecdote. I was at my wits end. I make content that no one watches. Unsure of where to go or what to do I decided to stream a video game and it was to be my last stream ever. That was, until I discovered What Happened. So many people showed up to my stream that evening with positive messages of kindness and affection that it turned my life around as well as my stream. God bless you devs and God bless America. A life of crime and drugs is not a life worth living and I see this now. Take care of yourself and each other. Urinary Tract Infector out. Thanks again.

The game is just ok. The story is great and paints the picture. The issues I have with the game is the lack of direction as to how to progress, lack of clear choices that can be made to either save Stiles' life or let him die, and the audio for the game cuts in and out frequently. The audio could have been a specific case for me but it really took away from the experience especially during key scenes. To see what I mean I'll link my playlist here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLkJGA9xtgxjPJJgVygY7HP058n1xLjwzf If you have any constructive criticism, please leave some.

Pretty accurate description of a bad trip. Although I couldn't continue to play or finish the game story/experience 'thanks anxiety' it seems like a solid trip. Recommended if you don't have PTSD. Do be prepared though if you have PTSD from a 'first hand experience' with this.

I have a hard time calling "What Happened" a game and it's not for the casual player at all. But let's start with the good stuff. This game is visually beautiful and unique, The sound is good and compelling. It has a dark and depressed vibe to it that walks you all through the way. All the above contribute and builds a different experience, which leads to the downsides of this game. There is little gameplay here. A lot of long, frustrating cut-scenes that in some parts you don't realize you are not playing. It's a very linear game with only of couple of times that the player has a choice and even then it's not always understandable that you have them. Most of the time you'll find yourself walking around switching light bulbs and reading notes. It's a short game (4 hours) that feels longer and tiresome. It does deliver an important message that in our era is easy to miss. but with all good in it, I can't recommend it as a game. It's just not my cup of coffee.

Really liked this. It is visually stunning all the way through. It has frustrations though. There needs to be more guidance on how to progress in these types of games. A lot of running around in circles.
