This eleventh main entry is a completely standalone experience that features new characters, a beautifully detailed world, finely tuned turn-based combat, and an immersive story that will appeal to longtime fans and franchise newcomers alike. STORY

A young man, about to participate in his village’s coming of age ceremony, travels to a sacred stone alongside his childhood friend. After a series of unexpected events, this intrepid adventurer learns he is the reincarnation of a legendary hero from a forgotten age.

This is the JRPG equivalent of a wholesome family roast chicken dinner, it's traditional and a little predictable but it's good and you feel nostalgic for it even if this is your first Dragon Quest game.

Definitely the definitive version of this game. I purchased the original release on Steam and it's a garbage business practice that neither my save files nor my money spent transferred to this new version. This should have been a patch, not a new game. But I can't deny the greatness that is here. This kind of game only comes along every decade or so. Buy it. Savor it. This is some seriously polished RPG goodness that can take you well past the 200 hour mark if you really want to complete everything.

The experience was fine until the beginning of the 2nd act, where you're forcibly placed in the role of the zesty Sylvando, and have to travel the world performing a very colorful, very not-so-subtle "parade". I put up with it until I arrived to and did the show at Gallopolis, thinking that it would conclude there but no, it goes on.. safe to say I stopped playing after that. A modern game for a modern audience it seems.

One of the best J-RPG created by veteran producer Yuji Horii, renowned character designer Akira Toriyama, and composer Hiroshi Yama, among many other celebrities. The grand and delicate world view depiction, carefully designed turn based battles, and thrilling storylines immerse players deeply in it. It has won multiple gaming awards, including a platinum award from PlayStation and a 40/40 perfect score from Famitsu.

This game was amazing. 9.5/10 for me. Just a really stellar RPG. I never got bored and was even inspired to keep going after i beat the game to fight some of the super bosses. Good combat, characters, story, progression, everything. My only gripe was i really dislike games with unvoiced protagonists. When you dont have a voice, it feels like the protagonist just gets ferried around by his group to use his chosen one powers when they need it. Other than that, perfect game.

combatwise this game is alright. of all rpgs ive tried, this id consider by far the worst. this is "permanent 20min cutscenes, slow af voice acting and constant unnecessary fetch quests" - the game. do yourself a favour n dont try the franchise, stick with FF or w/e, anything else is better. some moments are fun so far, but it just isnt worth the * money * time * effort - if you can call it that, game basically plays itself * 30GB

One of the worst games of the genre ever played in my life... This is like a fifa game series... new versions are always the same but with extra steps to make it feel like the wasted hours were for something, because you believe there was some sort of thing to make it special after the nostalgic talk... nop.... Lazy game design of a game... This is way over priced for what it is and it should be below most indie game price tags. Characters were some of the worst story driven childish plots I ever seen. Main character, I was just waiting for Vegeta to come along all this time to just say "Trunks, you're my son!"

Go check out Tim Roger's review on Kotaku for this if you are truly on the fence. Its cozy, mostly predictable, and polished. I don't love the post-game story decisions, honestly - but I do appreciate how dense it is.

I gave it a solid go. Got all the way into Act 3 a fair bit before looking into what people expected for grinding and the like - and rolled my eyes. There's such a difference between 'the way' and any other method that there aren't even any resources for any other method. You either blast yourself to 99 or so or you drudge through a miserable mire of 600 enemies that aren't hard, just annoying - and get virtually nothing for it in comparison. More importantly, the combat system is so bare that the grinding itself just really isn't engaging at all like it can be in some Disgaea games. It helps to be enjoying the gameplay *some* when grinding. Wasn't enjoying Act 3 to begin with, I've revisited areas twice already lord why am I doing it a third time, with a dungeon system that means you just run past every enemy. So much of the game after the first act feels *almost* like pure padding. There's a little bit there, but not much. Did I get my money's worth? I mean yeah, you can see the 60...
