I really wanted to like it, but it learned all the wrong things from past survival horror games. Your character is a 20 year old soldier that runs out of breath after sprinting for 10 feet holding a bag full of keys and bandages. It's just ridiculous. The developer is obviously talented and should make more games like this one, but let go of outdated ideas about pacing and "difficulty" gleaned from older titles that were greatly limited by technical aspects and frankly untested designs. They were just trying stuff out back then and it's wrong to confuse poor, unwieldy design for difficulty or character. Enemy AI is dumb; you just walk to any door and it resets the room you just left and no enemies chase you. Zero tension, especially when you can keep doing this until you get patrols that face away from the door and stab them in the back. I stabbed one guy in the back, from a good meter away, in front of his buddy and there was no reaction. Stealth is a good mechanic to have in surviva...

It was great, until act 3. That act is a nightmare of movement paths you can't see. It's filled with puddles and fox holes you can't travel through that look the same as ones you can, with map foreground and set dressing that constantly blocks your way. Some trees you can walk around, some you can't. It straight up pissed me off. More than a few times I tried to tumble away from enemy attacks only to get myself stuck on terrain features and get hit. I called it quits when I got run over by a random boulder in a mine because I tumbled into what I thought was safety but was just a terrain feature. I died, and lost a couple hours progress. Fuck this game. For those thinking "you should have saved more" it's a Resident Evil style game, which grade you based on number of saves and time of completion, so I was stretching them out to unlock bonus content. So damned if you do, damned if you don't.
Highly recommend if you're a fan of older Resident Evil games, but also don't shy away from this one even if you're just curious. Great difficulty settings as well if you're worried it might be too tedious. Also, if you are craving that vintage look, this game works great with Reshade (set scanline filter to 270p and enjoy)!
why am i forced to play the bad guys in every ww1 and ww2 game???
Running simulator, terrible combat, weak story. Gets boring fast.
If you liked Signalis, you'll like this one too.
I have.. maybe a hundred different complaints about CONSCRIPT. To save you time, I'll bottle them down into a single example: It takes 17 rounds of Mle 1886 (A french 8mm rifle bullet) to kill a man wearing a thin metal chestplate. It markets itself as an historical-fiction game with the bones of a survival horror game, but it makes few if any concessions from other games in the genre to fit its universe. Enemies are incredible bullet sponges, have reckless AI, and are entirely predictable. CONSCRIPT will spend a great deal of time attempting to wax poetry and draw themes of the horrors of trench warfare mere moments after you beat 16-20 men to death with a shovel, rolling between them like a Dark Souls PC to dodge their attacks. While CONSCRIPT was frustrating for this any so many other reasons, I still completed the game, and was ultimately satisfied of my purchase. While I do not believe they completed their goal of placing a believable story within the confines of a terrible war...
The real horror of this game is that you're french
under the cool looking visuals and the nice story lays an incredibly flawed and clunky game with really not much going for it other than that "surviving" feeling. Hit detection is awful sometimes you will aim at a completely still enemy and still somehow miss. Your character operates like r2d2 with how he handles guns. Its horribly clunky. The rats suck any fun out of the game due to them halfing your health with their bites. And your character is too much of a stupid fuck to hit them with a melee weapon within melee distance. cant reccomend it at all. These games elevate on being challenging with the feeling of making it against all odds. But this game cannot really pull of any kind of mechanic. The aiming sucks, reloading sucks, the enemy ai sucks, the visibilty sucks, inventory system sucks. The game asks the question of "humans are way more scarier than monsters" but at the same time none of the enemies who are humans in the game actually acts like humans, their ai is simple and ho...
