It may be early access but VBOX Sim is poorly written; it has more bugs than a bait store. No updates in over a year. Clearly, the project is dead. The sheer crappiness of VBOX Sim pushed me to write my own telemetry application which actually works and outputs data as MQTT channels, Motec Id, Circuit Tools formats, and my own channel format which I was already using for my AI based car setup engine for real-world motorsport. (ACC, rf2, iRacing, AC, AMS2, AMS - no F1 20xx series yet, but as that is not a sim I likely will not bother.) VBOX should contact me if they need a real programmer with hands on motorsport experience. They should reimburse all purchasers as the VBOX Sim is not fit for purpose and does not meet the requirements of Early-Access sales.

At first the price may seem shocking but not if you are really into SIM racing. The way this tool is able to auto cut and paste your fastest points on the track into one giant super lap is amazing and shows me quickly where I need to improve without me having to have a masters degree in mechanical engineering. I didn't even know something like this existed so bringing it to Steam was a good idea and I hope the developers continue to improve on it since there is some crashing every so often.

After seeing this software used on a few youtube channels it looked like the perfect software to help me improve. if it worked it might be, initially it recognised RFactor2 but didn't recognise the tracks i was practicing and No video, Then stopped recognising RFactor2 altogether after it confusing it with Assetto Corsa and multiple crashes. Tried ACC and got my only results, again No Video but one session worth of data to analyse. The track map was clumsy when trying to zoom in on corners and curcuit tools crashed multiple times trying to go through the data. Motec is free and i have never had any crashing of it's software, RST is a better program. Really wanted this to be a polished product but just too many issues for the price. Plenty of potential here but buy at your own risk.

Early adoption is always iffy. I have gotten it to work in AC (issues with downloaded tracks that are not Kunos' not registering start finish) and ACC. When it works it is brilliant and massively helpful but it has issues not the least is the price. I cannot get it to work in rfactor 2 or PC2 even after doing the things on the website. It really should have a pdf with instructions in the download because it is not intuitive especially about needing a separate download of circuit tools (analysis software) from another website. Haven't tried in iRacing yet given the known bug. I would love to see it in R3E and AMS2. The analysis tools with video is pretty awesome and helped me define a braking issue I was doing. As always be careful with early access software and bugs.

Very good piece of telemetry software for sim racers. What sets this apart from other similar products is that it gives you video recorded clips of not only your lap(s) but, also your optimal lap. Very good for analysing your driving and very simple to use. I have just a couple of questions regarding the app. 1) Is there any way to see off tracks and/or incidents other than visually seeing them on the video recording or track map? 2) Is there a dedicated forum where users can discuss and share vbo telemetry files? Happy with it so far and i'm sure it will help me improve my lap times!

System Requirements

Minimum

Minimum:
  • OS: 10
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Additional Notes: Requires Circuit Tools v2.9.30 or later (included). Built in PC based video capture increases load on the PC whilst recording. For most modern, machines that can comfortably run the chosen SIM racing game this should not be noticeable. However, if the PC is already near the limit for the game that is running, it may be necessary to reduce resolution/quality settings for VBOX Sim video capture to avoid video lagging behind telemetry. Alternatively, consider purchasing an external video capture device to reduce the load on the PC. For ultra wide monitors we recommend reducing the capture resolution if performance problems ensue. Support is included for external video capture devices such as the Avermedia LGP Lite as an alternative to the built in PC Based video capture. VBO files should be opening with Circuit Tools v2.9.30 or later (available on the Help tab in VBOX Sim).
