Half of your playtime is spent battling submarines that are impossible to detect with sonar and have torpedoes that detonate no matter what angle they hit at. The other half is spent sitting there and waiting for the timer to leave the combat area because the AI sent a single squad of zeros to MG your ships over and over again.

Quite fun game overall when it comes to the naval combat, but the friendly aircraft ai is less than competent. AI aircraft are actually horrific I have to tab out during ai engagements to not lose my sanity, not to mention the fact I get constantly bogged down by air raids on my bases every 5 seconds which makes the campaign not worth playing for me. FYI currently using atlantic campaign because I'm not interested in the pacific war, tried editing some files the devs mentioned to edit on some forum to reduce land-based ai but didn't help. edit: my gunnery crew must be blind and drunk because I'm sure it's not that hard to hit a battleship 3km away
Id like to see more or a larger campaign, maybe starting on Dec.7th. 1941 and running till the end of the war. and not have to download a third party mod to play as such. If as the dev, this is all you have to offer, then there is no way i would recommend this game to anybody.
Well it looks like the game was abandoned, which is sad because it has so much potential. But it is still fun and the modding community ist really hard working. In the end, you should check it out and make your own judgment. I had fun But you should prbly wait for a discount over 30 Euros is too much.
This game takes some time to learn the controls and mechanics, but once you do it's good fun. Some parts of the game are tedious, frustrating, and boring, namely ant-submarine warfare. However, I find the rest of the game addictive, and I love the historical background and attention to detail. Furthermore, there are lots of good mods for this game, which I have yet to try, but which I imagine add lots of replay.
Requested refund on this game. UI is overly complex and not explained well at all. The map elements are also confusing, as the AI does not do what you would expect it to almost 90% of the time. I'm comparing almost every game like this to what Battlestations: Pacific got right, and the sad thing is nothing has topped it, and it's over 15 years old!
phenomenal game, wish controls could be explained better and other mechanics without using the manual. Sad to see service ended for it by killerfish games but the modding sector is quite lively and well! i highly recommend it if its on sale, you can spend $40~ USD when its not on sale and i would say you still get your bang for your buck. Highly recommend the battle of the Atlantic mod which has come out quite recently!
It's just not there yet and the development pace is abysmal.
There is one heck of al learning curve with this game. It is very complex. However, it has a excellent tutorial and the many examples are fun to play. There is a manual, but it is quite long and I found it of limited aid, at least as I'm learning the game through tutorials. I'm still going through the tutorials.
Coming from Cold Waters, I loved the simulation in that game. The campaign was purposeful and the gameplay was focused with different possible strategies for players to try. War on the Sea, however, is not a completely hashed out game. The game doesn't feel like it has direction, the AI is pretty much useless, the campaign is lacking and incomplete. It's another non early access title that is actually early access. That let the devs pretty much abandon the game when it was clear the development wasn't going to be worth their time to make it as interesting as Cold Waters. I wouldn't hold my breath for seeing any more meaningful updates on this one. Avoid it and look elsewhere for a strategic naval sim.
