Steam Workshop will be what really makes or breaks this. I know a number of people interested in software like this, so if it pulls off workshop support I think it will do well. Right now it's perfectly usable and shows promise. I think if I had any suggestions for it at the point it currently is, after the upcoming features mentioned in the first news post I'd like to see background settings flushed out a little bit, with maybe some basic filter options including blur, but those probably aren't important to someone who is exporting their images for a game. Really though, I hope the developers are pouring time into the workshop aspect, because I feel that will end up being one of the key features.

Good if you want to make mostly young, skinny, feminine-styled humans without too much variety. That sounds like a knock, but it isn't really. Just the truth. If you want to make anything outside of that, this isn't the way to go. Thumbs down due to the high price. This might be worth it eventually, but no way I'd say yes at full price right now.
After using this app for 123 hours (!!!), I suppose it's about time I left a review! I grabbed Mannequin during Early Access in January 2021, when I began working on my first visual novel. I used it a lot over the next several months, making a dozen characters with multiple outfits, poses and expressions. As someone with no real art skills, it was an absolute godsend and I would absolutely recommend it to anyone wanting to follow in my footsteps. The characters have a unique, recognisable look while also remaining true to the anime/visual novel style I was looking for. Mannequin is easy and intuitive to use and gives you a lot of leeway in fine-tuning a character's expression. Between face shape, different types of eyes, noses and mouths, and even little details like pupils or lips, you can really make characters look unique, and imbue them with a lot of personality. And, following a recent update, there are now dozens of types of hairstyles, which can be mixed and matched and recolo...
I am pleased, as a RPG Maker user, I have always wanted to have full characters to help give the narrative, My skills aren't that good, and now having this tool available will make it easier for anyone who wants to get into indie development, whether it be RPG Maker or VN Maker. This software allows you to create a varied amount of characters right out the box, with different poses and other features, allows you to really get into your characters looks and feels, the export to PNG (other formats are available) allows for easy import into any other software. I look forward to see how this progresses, There is obviously room for improvement and there are still some missing features (like age lines for older characters) but anything else can possibly be a future DLC pack? For Early Access software it is pretty decent, and I have to say with my 1 hour of use so far, I have already made 4 characters. Its so easy to use.
This software is shockingly good for it's stage of development. The content is a bit limited at the moment, but you can still make a huge array of characters. Mod support is already implemented. Once we actually know how to create mods, this will be incredible.
Good system, but it need more body types templates, summer wear like bikinis or swimsuits, more men wears, fantasy clothes... or a easy way to create our own templates to import it in the software...
Honestly, this is one of the best programs for game developers who lack artistic skills. However, I do wish that there were more sci-fi and fantasy content available. Overall, it's a great program.
Absolutely garbage tool with very little to recommend well about it. The bad: 1. Awful to run. It kept crashing and sometimes during export it would mess up all of the layers. And then continue to open Export menus. 2. VERY little customization. You know those NFTs with the monkeys? That's the sort of variance you can get here. 3. Very little content overall. The good: Easy to use I got it for 7.50. I wouldn't pay that again. 3/10 tool.
I've been playing with this app for awhile, and I have to say, I am absolutely blown away. As of my writing this, Mannequin is still in early-access, but even in it's current state, the quality and complexity of the character designs you can create is amazing. There are a multitude of body poses to choose from, as well as various styles of facial features (lips, eyes, eyebrows, noses, ears.) Even better, there exists the ability to fine-tune expressions and facial feature positions to your liking (within limits.) It's even possible to change the direction the character is looking in. Additionally, there's no forced color palette. There are some generally normal preset colors to choose from, or you can use literally any color you want for skin, hair, lips, eyes, clothing, as well as the highlights and shading for each of those items. The developer has clearly put an INSANE amount of time, effort and (most importantly) thought into this program, and it shows with every update. Even...
I've owned it for a LONG while but used it minimally, really only because i like different styles for body shape that i...cannot do, i can see this being an issue for some people. UI is ok, and its easy to use. just want better stuff i would love to see it
