5/29/2020 - Bugs got resolved, great job Dev! A simpler version of Battlefleet Gothic and similar to the Ancient Frontier/Ancient Frontier: Steel Shadows games. I am impressed with what was done with the tools and budget available or more accurately, with what I think was the budget available. I had hoped for a solid turn based capital ship space brawler with a somewhat passable campaign. I was pleasantly surprised when the game world opened up and I appeared to get choices! Similar to Battletech where you turn into a mercenary captain and fight for money which you can use to upgrade and buy better weapons and mods. Simple dialogue options with NPCs that offer missions and some story. I did spot the bad guy as soon as I saw his portrait which was pretty funny. After the tutorial area with combat, you get the world map and can travel. Mission then go away from the world map and have you do the objectives which usually includes combat. Navigating and turning your ships ...

I spent an hour trying to finish the tutorial but there are a lot of bugs for a game that is supposedly almost done with early development. Bugs to the point where you cannot complete the tutorial(Which is terrible, by the way. The instructions are unclear, half the popups telling you what to do don't appear, and some of those that do are off screen when you cannot move the screen) I'm adding this game to my wishlist, i'm intrigued by the potential that this game has, but for the time being, it's not worth the money. Fix the tutorial, fix the game, then sell it. Don't expect paying customers to find the bugs in your game.

Two of my favorite board games growing up were Star Fleet Battles and Starfire. Spacer: Legacies is doing a better job of scratching the itch I have to play those than any other single-player computer game I've found. The systems involved aren't as complex as SFB or as customizable as Starfire, but it is a nice blend of the two and lends itself to manageable combat sessions. As with SFB, positioning and weapon management are critical to really doing well. As a single example of that, consider the concept of return fire. Each ship can choose whether or not it wants its available weapons to return fire if the ship is attacked. Return fire happens with an accuracy boost and is more likely to hit. Since ships can move and fire in multiple stages over the course of a turn, return fire can interrupt that process by killing an enemy, getting a critical hit on a system, getting an effect that disrupts their sensors, lowering accuracy, etc. Depending on how the enemy ship may need to b...

Decent core game with some frustrating aspects right now. It's kind of a buyer beware, but a little on the buy side, the major issues I have with it are 1) some basic QOL issues, for example, once you advance a character to trait selection you can't go back and see what you already put on them, or the fact that the skip cutscene button is so close to the progress cutscene button that I accedently pressed the skip button twice (and as far as I can tell, no log so I missed the story beats), not a huge deal, but sometimes it's the little stuff. 2) Even with fast move enabled ships feel pokey, I feel like about half the playtime is watching ships move and you can't click off of one until their move is totally finished, no concurrent movement (which would be fine if the ships were about 2x as fast). 3) A fair amount of showstopper bugs, including an issue which prevents you from saving (I think it's linked to an item drop) and a UI layer bug where you basically lose the ability to intera...

This is a fun turn-based, hex-grid ship combat game. The ships are somewhat similar between classes of the same type (they do all come from the same tech background, so I give it a pass) but the story missions themselves are fun, and there's randomized missions you can take from stations to improve your standing with them, make extra money, and salvage some loot if you're lucky. Your pilots all come from the story line, so there's little sense in wandering off the beaten path for more than a few missions until you have all of them. They also come with their own ships, so you're not scrambling to scrounge up the money for another ship b/c someone invited themselves in! They also level up and get better as they take more jobs, so there's incentive to bring them along. Pro tip: When one of your pilots (no names for spoilers' sakes) has "Light 'Em Up" as an option at the level-up screen, TAKE IT. It illuminates every enemy position on the map, which is really good for NOT walking you...

Not entirely good, not entirely bad either. It is a decent game, but goodness gracious, this could've been so much better with a better paced story, deeper characters, and without things jumping right, left, back, up, and center so quickly. In a sense, it kinda feels like a phone game. Pros----> Earning money: it's easy, quick, everything is affordable after a certain point. Graphics: For a game at this price, I'm pretty impressed by the level of quality. Little details: where this game fails in the plot, characters, and the bigger scale, it crushes it on the small details. The systems and their information feel authentic, the ship classes are pretty balanced, and it takes a simplistic aesthetic approach that fits it. Combat: While it takes a while to properly understand just how in the name of God range parametres and intervals work, combat is surprisingly complex because of the offenssive-defenssive-cyberwarfare triangle going on and creating, adapting, matching ships for varied fle...

Fun game, very reminiscent of battletech. Some suggestions after playing it for a while, though. * Add a "Retreat from side quest" option. If I answer a distress call with my two corvettes and a frigate, and I find a convoy defending against four frigates, half a dozen corvettes and a battleship sitting on the gate, I'm going to have to tell the convoy to turn around and go home. Sure, there are some missions worth dying over. Making sure three shiploads of toilet paper make it through pirate space isn't one of them. * On a related note, it would be great if missions spawned with multiple goal nodes, so that when a battleship DOES decide to camp one, it doesn't preclude sneaking the convoy past without engaging. * Would love to see more complexity per ship than just a couple weapon slots and some shield extenders. It's a very clean, simple system but it falls short of its full potential. * Can't tell if freighters are implemented yet. I seem to be able to carry cargo regardless of my ...

Unplayable for me. The game looks nice and could be interesting but I am unable to proceed due to an issue with the camera on space movement forcing the view in such a way I am unable to click on the continue or end turn button as they are now hidden from sight. After several attempts to get past this issue I gave up and got a refund. Get this game at your own risk and good luck.

Scratches my itch for Silent Death and Starfleet Battles. Really fun! Great tactical space battles in a campaign setting.
Almost Good
This game is almost a good one and that's kind of the biggest problem. Not many unique games of this type exist and i would like to see more; unfortunately while this game has some interesting takes on the mechanics of turn based, naval-style (2D) space combat, it does not do enough to really justify its price point or its relative length. If the game had a multiplayer and a skirmish mode, more experimentation with designs would be possible and interesting combinations would be easier to create. The story is something out of a mediocre space opera, and though it could be good with a stronger presentation, the games poser-style talk sprites and extensive text boxes do not do it justice. all in all, not interesting enough to be worth the price.
