so i bought MHS1 and 2 in the bundle pack, i was like, ill play mhs1 first because why not and experience the game FWIW, and the story;. but the story from 1 has no relevance to MHS2. and the graphics and gameplay are overall as a whole, a bit worse. Theirs also more mechanics in MHS2 such as no battle pouch ( mhs1 made you keep a pouch for use in combat, with limited healing items) and in mhs2 you can just use what you have. Theirs a weird feature aswell where you can now swap weapons mid combat, and each weapon type deals something different on the battlefield, kind of like grass vs water type stuff in pokemon, which im not really a fan of but like whatever, i cant remove it. Graphics are better, some return characters, but even in new, non monster hunter stories games, the same characters also reappear throughout them all. more content, more updates then mhs1. just get mhs2 and skip 1 tbh. no regrets either way, mhs1 is a decent game, and it is fun, but mhs2 is just ... unsurprisin...

◆ Story
What you've been entrusted with could bring hope or terror…
It is the night of a festival in Mahana, the central village of Hakolo Island.
Rathalos all around the world are vanishing.
You are the grandchild of Red, whose Monstie was Guardian Ratha, the revered protector of Hakolo Island. Upon setting out to gain experience as a Rider, you encounter Ena, a Wyverian girl who once knew Red. In order to protect the egg that Guardian Ratha has entrusted her with, you decide to leave the island together.
There are strange things happening everywhere. As you try to figure out what is causing these environmental abnormalities, the egg finally hatches.
A flightless Rathalos with small wings bursts out of the egg.
◆ Go Egg Collecting and Hatch Some Monstie Travel Companions
Form bonds with monsters as you embark on a Rider's journey!
The monsters you befriend during this enthralling adventure become your loyal Monsties.
There is a diverse range of monsters that inhabit every nook and cranny of this world.
Throughout your daring escapades, you can become pals with fearsome and unique monsters such as Brachydios, Seregios, Nargacuga, Tigrex, Zinogre, Kushala Daora, and Teostra!
Find more monsters along the way and add them to your party!
Eggs can be found in Monster Dens that randomly appear in the field.
There are even some rare dens that pop up infrequently where you can get your hands on elusive monster eggs and ones that contain hard-to-find genes.
Once you have made it safely out of the Monster Den, bring the egg to the Stables and hatch it to get a new Monstie for your journey!
These are special skills that you can perform while riding a Monstie. Depending on the Monstie, you can gain an ability such as dashing, flying, or swimming.
There are also other actions that allow you to search for items more effectively when out in the field.
◆ Monstie Growth
Line up genes to level up your Monsties! After hatching Monsties, you can strengthen them through battles and the Rite of Channeling.
The Rite of Channeling is a ritual that allows you to transfer a gene from one Monstie to another.
By doing this, you can awaken a new ability in the Monstie receiving the gene, thereby creating your own original Monstie.
During the ritual, you can choose which slot you will place the gene in. This gives you the opportunity to enhance your Monsties by awakening new skills and abilities in interesting combinations.
◆ Turn-Based Battles
Master the three attack types to gain the upper hand during turn-based battles! The improved turn-based combat system allows you to experience the excitement of the main Monster Hunter titles while engaging in epic, strategic fights with monsters you encounter during your adventure.
There are three attack types: Power, Speed, and Technical. By predicting your opponent's attack type and winning a Head-to-Head, you can inflict massive damage as well as greatly fill your Kinship Gauge.
Duke it out using the weapons and armor that the Monster Hunter series is known for!

Six weapon types from the familiar Monster Hunter series lineup are available in this game too. Master each of their unique characteristics and forge equipment to fit your individual playing style. Layered armor is also available, so you can hunt in style while wearing your favorite equipment.

Pokemon if it doesn't have a fanbase that'll gobble up every single slop gamefreak churn out
Some novel concepts to be found in the creature collection but they're all vastly overshadowed by the lazy story and overly simple combat that plateaus in difficulty a few hours into a long game. Every character is a walking cliche and I hate everyone except Cheval. The cat and wyverian girl we travel with are especially unbearable and I was incredibly sick of hearing about our grandfather "Red" (who we've never met) by the end of the game. The villain, despite only showing up at the very end, is incredibly easy to predict from the start and his motivations are thoroughly uninteresting. The ultimate lazy cliche happens at the end when the colossal underground sand worm/tentacle creature you've been pursuing "is born" and turns out it's just a generic normal sized pale dragon. It really felt like such a cop-out. As others have said the combat is rock/paper/scissors where the opponent always chooses the same thing until their head glows red and they choose a different option every t...
Enjoyed the gameplay, didn't quite enjoy the story, but the gameplay is all that is needed to play the game
Absolutely nice game. Love collecting monsties like pokemon and beating the everlasting crap out of monsters. Wish they added all the weapon types. Only gripe is that there is a disproportionate large amount of monsties with fire element.
Loved the story if you wanted a pet monster from monster hunter and if it is available in the story this is what you need
Already played it for over hundred hours on switch when it released, replaying now on pc.

As someone who played monster hunter world before ever playing one of the 2 stories games this game was generally a great experience for me i enjoyed the simplistic but deep combat mechanics and that in some fights you actually had to think about what you were going to do to win My only dislike was the final boss it just felt like a annoying fight it was difficult but in a annoying way cause of its OP moves Generally i enjoyed: The battle mechanic The expansive Monstie list Monsties that had other forms e.g fulgur anjanath THE PLOT was fun The characters especially navirou (despite others hate on him) Dislike: Lack of certain types of monsties (e.g water) The final boss
