ABOUT THIS GAME

Welcome to Myst: a starkly beautiful island, eerily tinged with mystery and shrouded in intrigue.

Journey to Myst Island and other stunning, long dormant locations - called “Ages”- and begin to unravel the mystery you have been thrust into. As you learn what happened on the island, you will find that you are playing a key role in an epic story whose ending has not yet been written. Explore deeper connections in these stunning and surreal Ages, uncover a story of ruthless family betrayal, and make choices that will affect both you, and the world of Myst itself.

Cyan, the indie studio that created the beloved classic, has reimagined Myst.

Built from the ground up to play both in VR as well as traditional flatscreen displays, Myst is teeming with new art, new sound, re-imagined interactions, and even optional puzzle randomization. Finally... the highly anticipated Myst 2D/VR experience has arrived!

Now you can explore the Ages of Myst in a new dimension!

BUILT FOR BOTH VR AND 2D DISPLAYS

Designed and built from the ground up in Unreal Engine, this newly-reimagined version of Myst includes fresh takes on the visuals in every area in the game. With both VR and 2D play experiences in mind, this definitive, modern edition of Myst will immerse you in the world in a way that has never been possible before.

Additionally, Myst includes many “comfort level” features for both new and experienced VR users, including the option to enable smooth or snap turning, quick travel up stairs and ladders, vertical height quantization, and more!

NEW AND REQUESTED FEATURES

For the first time in Myst’s history, enjoy the game in many different languages through localized UI, including dialogue and gameplay-context subtitles.
- A variety of accessibility options to assist in gameplay.
- Tired of taking notes? Now you can take photo captures in-game to keep track of what you’ve encountered!
- A large number of graphics options to choose from, such as supersampling options and Ray Tracing to bring the best Myst experience out of the hardware you have.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: Do I need a VR headset to play Myst?
A: You do not need a VR headset to play Myst. Myst is playable with or without a VR headset.

Q: I bought Myst when it first came out in 1993. Can I get a free upgrade to this new version?
A: Thank you for your support over the years! We are not giving out free upgrades to previous purchasers of the original Myst. We put a lot of effort into making this new version of Myst and would appreciate your financial support again!

Q: I want to play Myst, but am concerned about my computer not meeting the minimum requirements. What should I do?
A: If your machine does not meet the minimum requirements and you still want to try Myst out, we recommend enabling one of our supersampling options through the graphics settings menu to see if it alleviates performance concerns. Depending on the storefront you purchase Myst from, you may be able to qualify for a refund through the store (not through Cyan support) if Myst does not run well on your platform. Please review each store platform refund policy for details.

Q: Will Myst support [insert language here] one day?
A: Possibly! We’d love to hear from you through our support team about any languages you’d like for us to support.

Cool game to revisit. For those that played the past iterations of this game, I'd highly recommend playing with the Puzzle Randomization mode to recapture the initial immersion.

SCORE: 9/10 - OUTSTANDING Yet another iteration in the apparent tradition of modernizing the graphics of the original Myst game from 1993. You find yourself marooned on a bizarre and apparently vacated little island, left to explore, tinker with the puzzle-like novelties, and discover clues revealing this method behind the madness of it all. I found the puzzles to be appropriately challenging and eventually made it to the end unassisted. But if you really get stuck, consult the website "Universal Hint System". Oh, and I recommend: Settings > Interface > Classic Video Mode: On!

This review applies only to playing Myst in VR with Vive hand controllers. 2 of us played the game together, taking it in turns to be in VR or watching on the screen. The game itself is iconic, and really should be played once by any computer game player. We played the original version some 30 years ago, and still remember the experience with fondness. But, reluctantly, we cannot recommend this VR version. Movement with the Vive controllers is really clunky, whether in teleport mode or smooth movement. The slightest touch to the sides of the circular “touch disc” on the controller sets the scene spinning uncontrollably. This at one point caused one of us to fall over (fortunately there was no damage to the player or surrounding furniture!). We could not find any settings to reduce the sensitivity. A couple of times we encountered glitches -
the door to the hologram chamber would not open to let us out, and we got stuck in the lift in Cogworld.
Both th...

This Myst is a delight for fans of the original game and a great way for newcomers to discover a classic. Not much to say, everything is almost perfect. There are quite a few options for configuring the game as you wish. You can find videos from the era that really helped you immerse yourself in the game. Personally, I prefer them to soulless 3D characters. A ‘random’ game mode makes certain elements random, and those feeling nostalgic should start with this mode before returning to the classic mode they know. Thank you, Cyan Worlds!

This game is fantastic as it was 1993, because it has a great story. The bonus age is a nice to have. The stability on Linux is great, I'm able between Myst and other programs to make notes without any issue over time. The internal note taking is not practical, so I used gimp and a text program to take notes

I first played Myst in the mid-late 90s when I was supposed to be revising for exams. Playing this re-imagined version is like going back to somewhere you visited as a kid. The detail is wonderful, and the addition of Rime as a coda helps join up this game with the later games. Playing on VR must be amazing too. I can't really judge the puzzles as I wasn't solving them as I would be from my first attempt, but being able to carry multiple pages at once is an excellent quality of life improvement. The atmosphere is immaculate.

There are books I read when I was young, that I wanted so badly to jump into their worlds.. I never really played these games until I was an adult but they are the only non-books to give me that same feeling. There is real magic in the art here. Also, Devs, thank you for Rime. Please finish the rest, I'm happy to keep buying these remakes.
