About This Game

Tune in to American Arcadia, the most popular reality tv show on the planet! In this retro-futuristic 70s metropolis all citizens enjoy a life of luxury and comfort... and are completely unaware that they're being broadcast 24/7!

So escape from the real world and sit back to enjoy the most dangerous contest on air, where a drop in your popularity comes at the highest cost: death.

Trevor Hills is your ordinary, everyday, average man. He’s more than happy with his mundane life as an office clerk. Unfortunately, this doesn’t make him very popular with the ever-important viewers of American Arcadia and sets him up for a one way trip to execution – unless he escapes.

Luckily for Trevor, he’s got help.

Angela Solano is a stage technician for American Arcadia, and she’s determined to make sure that Trevor gets out of Arcadia alive. Assisting from the outside, she uses her technical prowess and wits to manipulate the world around him, clearing the path to his freedom.

But neither Angela nor Trevor are prepared for this escape to become a journey filled with twists, turns, and lies.

Control two different characters in two different worlds as you play through Trevor’s escape in 2.5D puzzle platforming sections and assist him as Angela in first-person hacking gameplay. It’s only by working together that they have any chance to overcome the corporation they’re up against!

After telling the story of love and loss in the 1930’s South Pacific, developers Out of the Blue have created a completely new experience set in a rich world of twists and mystery.

Play through a layered narrative with the trademark polish and artistry from an award-winning studio with seasoned acting veterans Yuri Lowenthal (Spider-Man 1 & 2, Call of the Sea), Krizia Bajos (Cyberpunk 2077, League of Legends), and Cissy Jones (Firewatch, Call of the Sea) others bringing the characters and world to life.

You can complete the game mostly by pressing a single button. The story is great.

Top quality production levels in game play, voice acting and sound. The story has been done plenty of times before, length could have been shortened to 4 hours, and ending could have been a bit better but it is very much worth your time to play it.

I heard about AA in a Second Wind video and I was happy that there is a demo on Steam, which is apparently rarer these days than finding a AAA game that doesn't immediately try to sell you a season pass for content that should've been in the base game to begin with. Seriously, why do only indie developers remember that letting people actually try your product before buying it used to be standard fucking practice? Anyway, the demo hooked me like a particularly aggressive fishing lure designed by someone who understood the fundamental concept of "not insulting the player's intelligence," and I genuinely enjoyed myself until approximately the second half of chapter five, at which point the game transformed from a delightfully twisted examination of reality television dystopia into what I can only describe as a puzzle designer's fever dream after eating too much cheese and watching Myst speedruns. The story? Brilliant. The fourth wall breaking? Chef's kiss. Trevor's character transforma...

American Arcadia is a very, very fun and incredibly well-crafted game. It has a great retro-futuristic 1970s aesthetic and a very intriguing world of intense corporate control and escape. You play Trevor, a corporate drone who discovers that his life is not real, but instead takes place in the artificial city of Arcadia. You are assisted by Angela, a dissident on the outside who is trying to allow you to get out. The action is split between puzzle platforming and first-person, depending on whether you are playing Trevor or Angela. The voice acting is very good, the look of the game is fantastic, and it's just very entertaining altogether. American Arcadia is a very unique and clever game and extremely fun to play.

Good story (I seem to be playing a lot of those, lately) and not too long game with a distinctive art style and a fun retro aesthetic. Surprisingly in-depth on the puzzle side of things for a platformer - not like super hard, just surprising - turns out the developer's previous game was more of a myst-like which explains it. Also, many characters in the story were so incompetent I was back and forth all game whether or not they were secretly on my side. Were they? Not telling, but it was funny. :P

It's a pretty good, short experience. Very storyfocused, and contains some puzzlesolving, exploration, 2D platforming, etc. I enjoyed it, took me about 10 hours to finish and 11 hours to get all achievements (The game is split into short scenes that you can return to after finishing to get any achievements you've missed). The gameplay isn't anything crazy, you switch between controlling one character in a 2D environment, controlling security cameras and other technical devices, as well as one character in a first person 3D environment, so it doesn't get stale. The big reason you're here is the story. It's very contained and focused, with a really satisfying ending. The story is told both by the characters as well as the background conversations and the environment. Sometimes it took a bit to figure out what you were doing wrong, but you're never set back so far that it becomes a problem. However, I had one issue. The game recommends that you use a controller, so I pulled out my S...

American Arcadia is a 2D story-driven platformer with 3D stealth elements. There are plenty of twists and turns along the storyline. What captured my attention the most was the artstyle used for the game. The retro futurist utopia aesthetic fits very well for the narrative. The gameplay is just entertaining enough not to distract you from the story. The game reminds me of the movie The Truman Show. I'd rate this game 7.5/10

Well worth the money. the production value is quite good, the humor was enjoyable, and the social commentary was right on point. Still had good action moments and gameplay despite my initial fears. 10/10 recommend.

The Truman Show meets 1984 meets modern pop culture references. Try to escape American Arcadia and watch the story unfold from 2 perspectives in several ways: as you swap characters, you move from a 2d platformer to first-person perspective, pretty much all of the action is done in platform modus while playing Trevor, and of course narratively between the prisoner and the outside aide, Angela. I advise to play this with a gamepad as it will make some of Trevor's escape sequences a lot easier to handle. Decent story, voice acting. I like the graphic style. The puzzles when playing as Angela aren't too difficult, sometimes you might have to retry some action sequences as Trevor though because you have to have some quick reactions lined up. There's a checkpoint save system so in most cases you don't lose too much effort when retrying.
