I get the mixed reviews, but don't let it fool you.
Battletoads is a great game. I can already hear you saying. "if it's such a great game. Why does it have a mixed review?" Let me explain. This was a beloved franchise during the 90's. It was gritty. Heavy metal. Bad ass. Cool. Very exaggerated expression and move sets which made it funny too because that's the kind of comedy that was popular in cartoons of that time. The part people don't tell you is that it was Incredibly difficult for no reason. Not difficult like the game was bad. Like difficult on purpose. Ok now lets talk about this version. Rare took a gamble and it seemed like it didn't pay off. This time around they took what made the originals great and toned it way down. The art style is more bright and poppy. The animations look amazing. The heavy metal is still there. They're not so cool this time around, but it's made on purpose because it fits the narrative. It's still somewhat silly and 60% of the comedy is...

I rage quit after having trouble eating the damn flies. How is that even an issue? Also, I kinda hate the artwork. And this is coming from someone who enjoyed the classic Battletoads games. I had more fun doing those Battletoads Gamestop prank calls years ago. 📞 EDIT: I would like to go on to say, at the least the music is good.
Worst voice acting I heard in years and the humor didn't really hit it with me. But besides that pretty solid platformer. I give it a 6/10. The platforming part is 9/10 though for me.
Too many mini-games. Not enough beat-em up.
Brilliant Game that keeps and betters the original gameplay from the Arcade Slots
Battletoads, developed by Dlala Studios and published by Xbox Game Studios, is a modern reboot of the classic 1991 beat ’em up franchise, known for its intense difficulty and quirky, over-the-top action. This iteration reinvents the series with updated visuals, co-op gameplay, and a mix of platforming, combat, and vehicle stages that stay true to the chaotic spirit of the originals while introducing fresh mechanics and a more narrative-driven experience. For both longtime fans and newcomers, Battletoads offers a wild, adrenaline-pumping ride filled with humor, challenge, and frantic fun. The game centers on the three iconic toad heroes—Rash, Zitz, and Pimple—on a mission to rescue their kidnapped friends and save the galaxy from the villainous Dark Queen. The story is presented through vibrant comic-style cutscenes packed with irreverent humor, witty dialogue, and a bit of fourth-wall breaking, capturing the tongue-in-cheek tone that made the original series a cult favorite. Original Battletoads was an unfair frustration-fest you really wished was more playable, because you liked the character art. This is the same. 80 mins total for me, trying both modes and it looks great, but it's the same thing, I just don't enjoy the gameplay having to pull off endless combo stuff to get by. I gather there are other types of gameplay in here if you persevere, but I cannot be arsed. I got it on sale and knew it would likely be as frustrating as it was back in the day... it is :D
🐸👍
It's a "meh". Beat-em-up parts were the worst slog, it picked up pace once the gameplay shifted - shmup, metroidvania and platformer sections i enjoyed way more. I started skipping cutscenes in act II, not my kind of humor at all. But i bought it for a buck, and definitely got at least a buck-worth of enjoyment.
