Fun and better with mods, not bad game if you have a fat wallet for DLC's

The Sims has become ever more restrictive and now really commercial Mods work properly. It is increasingly geared towards teenage PC content and unless you constantly buy new stuff packs or add-ons, it really gets boring after a while. I have racked up hundreds of hours on the game now and honestly with the latest it is so commercialized and emasculated that I refuse the waste any more time and money on it. Sims2 was fun there were bugs and game mechanics that allowed interesting game variants and you could even edit maps. In Sims 3 this got turned off, but the game engine was expanded and the NPCs became more complex and interesting. Unfortunately, the Game became very prone to crashing, once it grew to a certain complexoity and size. Then The Sims 4 became more stable again, but the world shrank massively and you could only play commercial neigborhoods with essentially playing pre-mapped story lines. BORING!!! So, no, I would not recommend The Sims4 any longer.

As much as I love this game, it's also not worth it. You have to pay for any worthwhile gameplay that should be base game (ie pets and weather) or packs that should be one split into random pieces (parenthood + growing together; horse ranch, cottage living + cats and dogs). Even then, I can't play it without mods as it gets so repetitive. Not to mention the game breaking after every update. I can barely play the game half the time - even with mods disabled, it's unplayable. Unless you can bare getting a game that you need to spend >£100 on to make it playable for hours, have a supercomputer that can handle mods, or suffer through waiting days to play after an update comes through for them to patch it (of which sometimes doesn't help), I'd say get Sims 3 instead!

All you need to know is there are thousands of players with hundreds of hours each who all have reasons to vote it down. TLDR: Long-term bugs EA is not financially motivated to fix, $1,000 to unlock the full game, and a general lack of concern about reputation as long as they're profitable. Pretty good game for architectural builds and disappointing the masses - grow dragon fruit.

Without fail EA manages to break their game (and compatibility with all the mods for it) EVERY SINGLE UPDATE. A game with mod support and with such a large and active modding community shouldn't be unplayable for weeks after an update when all the update adds is an extra section of menu. If you want to play the game that you paid for (with a grand total of over $1000 for all the dlc), you shouldn't be force to only play vanilla.

my relationship with the sims 4 is strained. i love it and i hate it. when it works, i love playing in a dollhouse of my own imagination. but for every moment of fun, there’s another where i’m fixing something broken. i can’t honestly say if i’ve spent more time playing this game or troubleshooting it. to play devil’s advocate: the sims 4 was released in 2014, and it’s still being maintained in 2025. that’s a long time for any game to keep up, and it makes sense that things are rough. but it’s still disappointing. to me, the sims 4 is a great game trapped in constant bugs. it takes patience, frequent fixing, and a willingness to accept glitchy gameplay. i selected “no” when it asked if i’d recommend this game, but really my answer is “maybe.” if you’re willing to deal with how broken it is — and you’ve got some decent coding skills — go for it. honestly though gang, wait for paralives to come out 👀 modding difficulty: 7/10 if you play on pc i ...

1,500.00$ for dlc is why I'll never pay for another sims game again or a sims anything for that matter. Modded it to perfection and corrupted my saves countless times. I've been going through the motions since 2004 back when the games where more linear. Now one player needs to shovel out 15 Benjamin's if they want the full game. It's really sad but power and greed corrupt even fun games like the sims. I'm looking forward to future games to take the field like Inzio while sims takes it's very large pool of dlc cash and retires.
