TL; DR Pros: - Great level design - Cool music - Nice Art Direction Cons: - Very difficult, at times unfair Wow! This game is really cool. The mechanics of the visual design, hiding monsters in the limited colors and backgrounds, is really cool. And the combat being limited to a standstill and aim is a cool way to encourage caution from the player. This game has been on my wishlist since I played the demo at an expo and I hope more people check out this game for the sake of the developer. Edit: After completing the game my recommendation is even stronger.

About This Game
Shot in the Dark offers a unique challenge, combining nail biting pixel perfect platforming with precise point and click shooting. But many of the cruel creatures of the night remain hidden in shadow. The bandit will have to be on the lookout for glowing red eyes, shadows moving through the trees, and figures lurking in the night. Because sometimes the only sign of a demon on your trail is the slight movement of the tall grass. And sometimes all you can do is take a shot in the dark.

I would pass on this game if you don't like a unfair challenge, it has both invisible enemies, unfair spike placement and a red dot chasing you across the level all of these are insta-kills and will have you restart the screen. the last few levels of this game has all three of these at the same time and will most likely take up majority of playtime. there are some amazing level/enemy concepts in this game like a unkillable demon that you have to stop being summon by shooting Satanic priests. For me personally I enjoyed the challenge and the final Boss is a great end to a frustrating game. the graphics while simple are utilised really well and never got boring to look at. Music on the other hand is different there are some great tracks on here but there is also a lot of repeated tracks that just started to boil my blood after being killed by a unfair reason. there is a story that is being subtle told which is actually quite compelling. I think there needs to be a easy mode (2 hit points...
This form of artstyle and game design I'll forever hold near and dear to my heart, but the feel in Shot in the Dark really captures and sells the genre; tight and responsive platforming, a curious shooting mechanic that is very smooth in action, a story that's simple but not boring. It impresses me to see decades-old mechanics explored in newer and more creative ways, I wouldn't know where to begin setting the "pace" for those last few levels. I look forward to what your crew works on next!
Disclaimer: My scores/reviews are almost always based on having bought the game at close to the "lowest historical price" on steam at time of purchase. Quick score: 5/5 Notes: Starts off deceptively simple and easy, but has a pretty good difficulty curve and gets pretty challenging later on. Visuals are very minimalist but look great and are used to enhance the gameplay in interesting ways. Soundtrack is also great. No real complaints except I wish it was maybe slightly longer and had some kind of arcade mode. Expect about 2-4 hours of playtime based on skill level and whether you go for achievements.
I really don't know how this game hasn't gotten more attention. This is a true diamond in the rough, you really won't be disappointed. The mechanics of the game are very simple. you can move, and you have to stop to aim and fire your weapon, for which you have six bullets. The developers took these very simple controls and managed to really put on a master class in design. New wrinkles are slowly introduced in bite size portions until the last couple of levels where you really have to put everything you've learned together. I think it's a lot like Portal 2 in this regard. A bargain at any price, seriously, pick it up! You can finish it in 3-4 hours, and I found it to be well worth the time and money spent.
video review: https://youtu.be/Wp7D5Pa6iF8 Play as a lone bandit in search of revenge, the classic tale of an old western, vengeance, rituals and the demons that lurk in the dark. Ok so maybe not the last two but you arrive in a town that looks to be the epicenter for the beginning of the end. Nothing will stand in the way for the lone bandits' lust for payback. Not the apocalypse, shades, cultist, or even Satan himself will be able to turn the head of this bloodthirsty killer. Shot in the dark is a 2d pixel shooter that offers up quite the challenge, with many mechanics that will work against you. It's truly a trial an error type of game. With Pixel perfect platforming pushing your fingers to the max trying to dodge and maneuver around the obstacles this game has to offer, like sharpshooters that will try to shoot you throughout the entire level, making the level feel like a time trial. Bullet hell scenarios that will have you dodge giant bullets with perfectly timed jumps to slip ...
I was one of the people who played the demo a good few months back, and what I got had me stoked for when the game would release. So does it hold up to what it promises? Certainly. The game is a challenging blend of shooting, platforming, and quick thinking. It starts off simple, but as it progresses things get more fast paced and frantic till it gets to the point where it's almost unfairly brutal at times, but beating this game has a real sense of accomplishment. Honestly, I'm just happy that I was around to see it come to fruition. Anyways, if you enjoy fast paced platforming and western shootouts, you should add this to your collection.
I had the pleasure of meeting the lead dev of this game, really cool guy, and passionate about his work. This game is awesome. Dead simple mechanics, but nefariously hard. Its an action/puzzle game with a lot of interesting ideas, and good level variety. The atmosphere is just the right amount of spooky, thanks in part to the music, which is great. You will die a lot, so you need to have some patience and figure out how to beat each level. I'm excited to play more. Unfortunately, I did encounter a bug where my character would automatically reload every time I took out my gun, which was super annoying when I just need to quick draw and shoot. It persisted until I restarted the game. Please fix, dev! Definitely a good dame overall, worth a grab if you're up for a challenge.
very worth getting
