About This Game

Scars Above is a challenging sci-fi third-person action adventure shooter combining the rewarding feel of overcoming difficulty with a compelling and intricate story, set in a mysterious alien world to explore.

Some things were not meant to be discovered…

A colossal and enigmatic alien structure appears in Earth's orbit and stuns the entire world; humanity names it ‘The Metahedron’. The Sentient Contact Assessment and Response team (SCAR) - consisting of scientists and engineers - is sent to investigate.

Things don’t go as planned and the Metahedron hauls the team across space onto a mysterious extrasolar planet. Playing the role of Dr Kate Ward - a SCAR member - who wakes up dazed, alone in a strange, hostile environment. Determined to survive, you set out to find your crew and unravel the mystery behind what’s happened.

SURVIVE AGAINST ALL ODDS

Kate is an astronaut and a scientist – not a soldier - but she's resourceful and determined to do anything to survive.
Use a combination of ranged weapons, devices, consumables and melee attacks, you need to manage stamina as you run, dodge, exploit weak points and discover effective tactics to defeat your foes
Combine different elemental attacks to beat the odds and break through otherwise impassable obstacles.
Craft different items and gadgets to aid you against the countless threats in this exoplanet.

EXPLORE A MYSTERIOUS EXOPLANET

Immerse yourself in a carefully crafted adventure, inspired by the sci-fi classics.
Explore an alien world filled with countless threats, gorgeous landscapes and ruins hinting of an ancient - yet advanced - civilisation that somehow disappeared.
Journey through different biomes, such as marshlands, freezing wastelands, underground caverns and alien facilities – all with their own set of challenges, enemies, secrets and environmental hazards.

EMBARK ON A RESEARCH JOURNEY

Kate is a scientist to her core and you'll use that scientific expertise to extract information from your surroundings by scanning artifacts, materials and creatures in order to learn about their features, properties and weaknesses.
As you explore your surroundings, you will conduct analysis and gain knowledge which will allow you to craft new gadgets, weapons and unlock abilities in Xenobiology and Engineering trees.

THRILLING BOSS FIGHTS

Ghastly enemy designs - with diverse strategies and tactics - will keep encounters fresh, forcing you to find creative ways to defeat them.

The Scars Above Experience:

  • Immerse yourself in an exciting sci-fi adventure inspired by the classics of the genre
  • Explore an enigmatic and intricate alien world - with plenty of mysteries to uncover

I really WANTED to like this game. The setting and look of it were nice. Cutscenes are odd with questionable lip syncing. Yes, the game is linear. Sadly, the main part of this game, the combat is bad. From the awkward "gadget" wheel, to the weapon switching (tied to the digital pad, to the horrid camera shake with literally every "boss". I get the impression the dev team was trying to hop onto the "souls like" shoot train. I cannot say to enough to skip this one enough, even on a $5 sale..,. just pass on it.

I wish I knew it was a souls-like game with guns. I wouldn't have bought it. I hate the souls-like genre with its 'shortcuts', constantly-reviving enemies, pattern memorising and dependence on reflexes. I don't want to keep fighting the same enemies over and over. That's boring. I don't want to have to memorise attack patterns. That's boring. I don't want to wander around not knowing where I need to go because there's no map or quest marker. That's boring.

I would say the game is remarkably mediocre. Theres nothing really bad with it but everything from the story to the gameplay to the world just needed more polish imo.

The first chapter is very cool, then everything start to fall appart. Everytime something could make sense, it seems the opposite choice is made. The lore make no sense, the monster design make no sense (The monster that feed on electric plants is weak to... electricity), and the story is promising... if you are discovering science-fiction. Spoiler : the delivery is not good. Some moments are really cool, some bosses are badass, but I cannot recomand it. Don't trust the time of play, the actual game is closer to 6-10h, I took a LOT of notes during the game as part of an exercice.

Premise is interesting, but gameplay and cutscenes are not incredible. Run-up to the first boss teaches you how you're "supposed" to fight it, but then gives attack windows that are shorter than the wind-up for the gun you're supposed to use, which was just plain infuriating that early in a game.

I like that the game is not about yet another soldier, but a scientist. It is not another CoD. Others said that the game focuses on combat and it is not satysfying in that regard, but I would say, actually, the game tries to focus on the story. Which is quite interesting and based more on science than fiction, but I wish there was more lore. And the initial pacing is way too slow for a today's easily bored mass consumer. Overall, it has it shortcomings and needs some polish. I can recommend to buy it when on sale.

Scars Above – 8.5/10 Really enjoyed this game. The combat is challenging but fair, and the weapons are fun to use with some great variety. The graphics and environments are atmospheric, and the soundtrack is amazing, adding a lot to the immersion. What I liked most: Tight and strategic combat Unique sci-fi weapons Great soundtrack and atmosphere Things that could be better: Enemy variety Some stiff animations Overall, Scars Above is a solid sci-fi action adventure. If you enjoy games with challenging combat, cool weapons, and strong sci-fi vibes, I definitely recommend it. Final Score: 8.5/10

If this was a first time indie developer, I'd tell them not to lose heart, it might not be a good game, but it's a good start. That's sadly not the case. This looks like a massive cost cutting measure by a slop factory, someone's minimum viable product. Yes, it's a complete game, but it lacks polish in every aspect. It's functional, but nothing about it feels good. Combat is clunky. Levels are boring. Environmental storytelling is vestigial at best. The story makes some sense, but lacks an original and interesting idea to tie it together. The writing tests your suspension of disbelief too much. Music is... sometimes there. The UI has considerable usability issues. I got this massively discounted, so I don't feel bad about my purchase. But the developers need to consider putting much more love into their products if they want positive reviews.

Its a good enough game. The story is linear and straight foward about a group of scientists that crash into a planet and have to figure out whats going on. It's really a short run, you can complete it in just 6 hours unlocking everything in the first playthrough. Graphics are great. The actual gameplay consists of fighting these monsters using 4 elemental weapons which is a decent enough style of gaming, my only complain are the gadgets, there's just too many of them and i ended up using 1 or 2. Im not sure you should buy the game at full price, i bought it on an 80% discount and i can guarantee you its worth it, i recommend waiting for a 40 or higher discount for purchase. The last boss was kind of easy, i expected a better last fight. Overall i give the game an 7 out of 10
