One of the best rougelites I've ever played 20 characters with their own playstyles and different builds and how they work with each other, bosses that will absolutely destroy you if you don't play attention, story that had me interested throughout the whole game and steam workshop which gave me more reasons to continue to play the game after completion. Steam deck had a pretty good battery life about 3-4 hours but gamepad controls was subpar and caused a few glitches but overall I enjoyed it and spent most of my time on it. I will definitely be watching out for this developer's next game.
In general, I'm not a fan of the deck building roguelike genre of games. But Chrono Ark is one of the top 10 games of the decade for me. It plays much more like a party-based roguelike RPG than a deck builder. In fact, I'd assume the main reason the developers chose to include deck building elements at all is because it works so, so well for a party-based roguelike RPG. The gameplay is the main draw. There are so many different systems that all work together to varying degrees depending on your party makeup and equipment. Everything is expertly crafted to fit together; no system is wasted. Every system has at least one potential party member that takes advantage of it, and many characters have their own unique mechanics as well that can drastically change how you play the game. On top of that, each of the ~20 characters has at least 2 distinct roles they can be built for, increasing versatility and synergies between characters. However, because of the large number of systems at play,...
Huh. So this has a lot of really good reviews? Maybe it's the art style and maybe it's the oversaturation of roguelike deckbuilders or procedurally generated maps but this is not clicking for me at all.
I just finished my 100% and wow. The story really hits, it's actually pretty well written and moving. I only came for the gameplay, and I LOVE the gameplay. It's completely original, but to explain it vaguely: Slay The Spire with 2-4 party members. The complexities and deepness of the characters and combining them together is so so fun and challenging. I keep going back just to play runs, literally just because, and as a result of just wanting to just play I got close to 100% naturally. Getting to see the final story at the end was the cherry on top. This was my favourite game to play ever. Would recommend.
Addictive gameplay loop with great ost-- story really gets going near the end, made me stuck to the screen trying to get the true ending. Looking forward to the dev's next game, Deception Engine

Don't sleep on this game! This game isn't your simple baby card game like slay the spire which I found so boring I refunded. This game is full of complex mechanics that requires you to think about your next set of moves. This game has it all. Good story, challenging mechanics, replay-ability and tons of different build combinations. Everything is so well done. Now that's not to say the game is perfect. There are few things which some might find overwhelming. There is a lot of text to read on your abilities which some might find difficult to understand and manage. There's also a lot of mechanics to keep track of which can very easily cause you to overlook something and get yourself killed. Personally I didn't find it too problematic, but it could be a turn off if you're not up to the task. With all that being said in my opinion it's the best card game on steam.
