About This Game

"Kata - a way or form to memorize and improve combat moves"

Katana Kata - is a souls-like game, where not only your timing matters, but also directions of strikes.

You will fight your way through a bunch of enemies on different locations to kill the former apprentices of your master and fix his mistakes of the past.

You will die a lot, but as any apprentice learn their way through the kata with mistakes, you will learn your way through every enemy on your path.

You will try different weapons until you find what better suits your fighting style.

Your fighting skills will grow, but true mastery is in your head in knowing your enemies and nuances of fight.

The core of the fight in Katana Kata is in combination of strikes, blocks, parry and dodge - pretty easy to learn, but with a lot of nuances to master, so even after a lot of deaths and repetition every fight can feel different.

This is my katana.
There are many like it, but this one is mine.
My katana is my best friend. It is my life.
I must master it, as I master my life

Without me, my katana is useless.
Without my katana, I am useless.
It always cuts to the truth
I must be faster than my enemy, who is trying to kill me
I must cut his head before he cuts mine
I will.

My katana is my soul
And I trust it more than myself.
Life is better with it than without it.
Death is better with it than without it.

Today we start on endless path to improvement
To become the masters of our enemy.
To become the saviors of life.
So be it, until there is no enemy, but peace!

Roguelite arcade~ish game focused on swords play. Marked as early access and it is - i've encountered some minor bugs (like you can see through a wall if you run into one due to some weird visual glitch). I review it as a positive one, because the main gameplay element - swordsplay is satisfying, which is great. Like you can cut through enemies easy, losing no hp, but if you start to relax AI will punish you double fast. Keep it up dev, will check the game back after a while.

An unusual interpretation of the souls-like games, the rich and full of action version. The reason for the "early access" is understandable: errors occure, especially in the tutorial. Good news: they almost disappear straight afterwards, and we immediately fall into battle. I suppose, the tutorial will be fixed soon (Important note: the problems are not only with bugs alone, but with the logic also). In sum, a rather interesting experience. At first glance, the gameplay repeats from time to time, but the excitement in the battle doesn't pass away. I hope, with updates - the variability of enemies, attacks and some other features will increase.

Really fun. It has everything to be a great game. I collect chanbara films, I read Musashi, I research and I am very interested in this universe and I can say that the game, at first, made my head. It would only adjust a few things in the character, like the possibility of sheathing and drawing the sword exactly the way the samurai did. It was going to be sensational. It would also be nice if the player could rotate the camera while the character walks in a defensive position. In addition, I hope you develop a great story. In this way it will become one of the best games of its kind available.

This game has the same problem many souls likes have, one aspect you had going for you in a souls game has been hampered-here it's stamina management. You really have no good way to manage your stamina and it makes things artifically diffucult because you simple lack the ability to deal with many enemies-your base movement is far too slow to avoid attacks without dodging-which means combat is simply a matter of outlasting an opponent's resources. And the combat is kinda dull as it is. I had a good time with it, but I would not say it is worth $15.

Game is far from finished, gets repetitive after a while. I'm a sucker for samurai stuff, but there's just no respect for the buyer here.

Fun game, great ideas but abandoned way too early, needs a lot more polish and work.

As an early access game should be, the bugs are alive. But the most frustrating have been already fixed and now it's cool to play without worrying. The combat system is pretty simple, you can dodge, block and parry(by attacking in same direction). We only have two directions to attack so far and that means you have a 50% chance to parry even if guessing, and you shouldn't since the enemies aren't that fast to attack letting you a kinda big time to react. You have a changeable range to react to enemies so you can run through with a low range or get ready far enough The graphics are nice with good lights, weather and depth of field. The camera isn't best positioned yet letting you view through walls and it's distance isn't changeable. Some pixel bugs here and there but nothing frustrating. By the time of this review, bosses are kinda hard, with lot of armours and may 1 hit you if low health. For a newbie, first boss, that is easier than some enemies, may give some trouble and that's ...

Played little of the game but so far I enjoy what I am playing. The fighting style plays like Sekiro which pairs well with the endless with the feeling of Hotline Miami. The death mechanic is fun with fighting your self and keeping progress.
