There's a reason that Final Fantasy 6 is at the top of the list when media outlets rank Final Fantasy. It's hard to have so many characters with so many different struggles that all relate to the themes. Love, grief, empathy. All things I felt and were explored in this game. This game is great in pixel form, but I can't help but feel a little jealous of Final Fantasy 7 fans. Final Fantasy 7 is awesome, and the remakes are superb, but Final Fantasy 7 definitely didn't need more time to explore most of the cast. Final Fantasy 6 DOES.

I found the game to repeatedly fail at communicating how to progress and as a result spent most of my time frustratedly reading a walkthrough. If you don't mind doing that give this game a try as the story is pretty good but otherwise I'd recommend just watching a playthrough of someone who knows what they're doing.

This is going to be one of the hardest reviews I've ever made because I know my personal feelings on this installment are very different from the fan base but here goes. Final Fantasy 6 is honestly a fan favorite for a ton of reasons, from the sprite work, to the variety of characters to recruit to the improved sound design to one of the most well-loved and iconic villains in the franchise and gaming wholesale. The game also introduced some more updates to the classic ATB battle system from the ability to toggle between active characters who have a full ATB bar which became a staple in later games but also remakes/re-releases of FF4 and FF5, to the Limit Breaks that the series is also known for. These Limit Breaks aka Desperation Attacks as their known randomly trigger when the Attack command is confirmed with a character Near Death. They are usually Non-elemental AoE (usually) Magic based attacks that ignore the enemies' defense stats and can inflict Instant Death with some of them. H...

I don't get it man. How is this game real? This game came out in 1994 and feels like it could have come out yesterday while still retaining loads of old school charm and peculiar design. Due to a host of bad luck and corrupted save files I never completed 6, and had played 4 through 10 multiple times but never this one to completion. Having finally finished it I can safely state that saying FF6 is your favorite Final Fantasy game is Cheating. I'm not even sure FF6 is necessarily my favorite, but is almost certainly "the best one", and an easy contender for best game of all time. FF6 feels incredibly modern in it's presentation and pacing while still being an old school JRPG. Weird stuff happens constantly, memorable set pieces come out of nowhere and are fully realized, there's really robust uses of weird one-off mechanics, and what I think is most striking about 6 is the absolute flex on the SNES hardware that this game represents. FF6 makes 5 and 4 look and sound like garbage. It i...

Wow. What a story. The character building and there's so many of them. It's a real shift from the previous games but what an enjoyable experience. I can't believe it took me this long to actually play these games. 1 through 6 done. And onto the next. I hope others will enjoy it as much as I have.

It's classic Final Fantasy VI, with a few graphical tweaks, and a better system for Sabin's Blitzes. It takes some getting used to for the text boxes, and you can't customize the text windows... but it's Final Fantasy VI and that's enough.
