Final Fantasy 3 is quite fun. It returns to the fragmented story-telling of FF1 after the attempt at epic story-telling that was FF2. You are 4 chosen heroes who have to save the crystals and the world from darkness. Figure out how to do that yourselves. That's basically the story. It is an adventure. Final Fantasy 3 is the first introduction of the job change mechanic that gets revisited several times in later games in the series. Instead of choosing one job for a character at the beginning of the game and sticking to it, you are able and encouraged to change the job to adapt to many different situation. Only catch is that jobs slowly unlock throughout the game and there are some later jobs that are strait improved versions to others. So, the actual number of usable jobs is ultimately lower than it might first appear. Overall I liked FF3 but I played the 3D Remake version so often this one did not offer much to me, except a smoother gameplay experience. I like the 3d Remake slightly...

User Reviews
Many elements of the game are dated, but fine. Limited, simple maps. Rudimentary plot, no real character depth. It's originally an NES game. The Job system is really where it falls flat. This is basically an alpha test for what Final Fantasy Job systems would become in later games, but here it just isn't done well. First, about 1/3 of the jobs are entirely useless. Another 1/3 will be obsoleted by direct upgrades over the course of the game. The selection of actual good jobs is fairly limited, despite it looking like there are many options. There is a tension on whether and when to switch jobs around. There are incentives for both, but neither really feel good in practice. Some of it is just forced by the game. Several dungeons in the game require you to cast either Mini or Frog (or was it Toad? whatever) on yourself. Better be able to cast it. And in those sections your physical attacks are useless. Better just make everyone mages, unless you just run away from everything like I di...
Fix. The. Font! It is insane that after 4 years you idiots still have not figured out that the font is terrible! It is an assault on the eyes. Unreadable. Previously this could be "fixed" by changing the font files of the English font to the Japanese font, or with the help of mods. After the most recent update, neither will work. Your only options now are to suffer the feeling of being stabbed in the eyes with every word you read, or to use the new "classic" font feature, which is somehow even WORSE! I am visually impaired, but these fonts make me wish I was fully blind. FIX THIS!
FINAL FANTASY. Best game, paired with the best music. What more can be said...
The definitive way to play Final Fantasy 3.
I am an OG fan playing this remaster series in order. I played this game partially in the 00's in the translated ROM days (my rom was buggy and I never got far) as well as the 3d ios version(also didn't finish). THIS is the best version of the game I have played, it's not the best final fantasy game by a long shot, but it's worth playing if you are a fan already. It was interesting to see the origin of some ideas that pop up in later games. Final fantasy 5 is almost a remake of this game, in a way. If you want the general vibe but don't want to play every single game, you can skip 2-3 and play 5 instead. That may sound negative, but I was also happy to play thru this game, I found some fights a challenge and got my party wiped out a healthy amount of times. The Job system is very fun and I wish they kept the Viking taunt in future games. You can see the job system evolve in FF5 and FF Tactics
just another onion head
One of my all time favorite games, with even better graphics and other quality of life improvements.
