About This Game
A Pulp Adventure Thriller from the minds that brought you Peridium and Crawl.
An engrossing roller-coaster of a story- Drawing on King, Crichton and Carpenter, with a dash of 70s Aussie grindhouse.
Point 'n Click or Controller- Unique twin-stick controls make The Drifter as comfy to play on the couch as at your PC.
Bursting with raw crunchy pixel art and high-impact animation.
Professionally voice acted, with a brooding dark-synth cinematic score.
Mick Carter's been drifting a while now- moving from job to job, never staying one place long. Jumping a box-car to his old home town, he witnesses a violent murder, is pursued by hi-tech soldiers, thrown in a reservoir and drowned.
And that's just the start of Mick's problems.
His consciousness ripped away, thrust back into his own body seconds before his death...
Framed for the killing he witnessed, tormented by his own past, and haunted by the feeling that something followed him back from the other side...
Follow Mick as he's sucked headfirst into a lunatic web of shadowy corporations, murder, and the thousand-year obsession of a madman.
The Drifter is our take on a classic 2d point and click adventure, with the brake-lines cut. The focus is on fast-paced storytelling, with puzzle-solving being the glue that ties it together. Mick's a practical guy, and so puzzles are down-to-earth too, designed to be unobtrusive, and give an investigative feel.
We're keeping the pacing quick and lean, you'll never be wandering around lost or confused- Mick is propelled through the story at a good clip, from one situation to another, with barely a moment to catch his breath. One minute you'll be crafting a Molotov cocktail from a bottle of over-proof rum, the next interrogating a crooked neurosurgeon before swinging from a high-rise window by a fraying extension lead.

Thick and pulpy, like freshly squeezed ethanol juice from the grimiest corners of Haymarket, the Drifter is played in a single, frazzled, unreal sitting. Old school thriller, like they don't make 'em anymore.
What an incredible year for point & click adventures this has been so far. This one stands out by being quite cinematic in the limiting pixelart style. And by its Aussie cast, which is something you don't hear every day in games.
So many rare qualities in this game! Well-written dialogue, character driven story with enough science fiction to keep the emotional core from verging into the over-earnest. The pixel art is classic and distinct. The puzzles are tight and satisfying, if a little linear at times. Top-notch music and sound-design. I hope Powerhoof continues to explore this genre--they're on to something good here!
wow this ones a gem, 9.5/10 I'll talk about what I don't like first, since there's so much I LOVE about this game. No spoilers ahead. "cons" > I wish there was a little more to explore in the game, it would help make up for the 8-10 hr playtime > I would have liked to see multiple endings and different routes Pros > The voice acting and beautiful pixel art really sell this game. The story itself is amazing but when it's backed with compelling voice actors, it really brings the world to life. > I LOVEDDDD the direction they took with the story. Many games can't quite stick the landing, but The Drifter exceeded all my expectations. Around the 7th chapter the story took a major shift in the best way possible, from Thriller to Sci-Fi. I was really worried about this since I had loved the previous 6 chapters and going into the 7th it was clearly different. They managed to tie the first & second half of the game together beautifully for an amazing and satisfying ending. Despite my complai...
Twenty-five year later and we're still comparing point and click games to Lucas Arts at their peak. The Drifter isn't quite there, but it's pretty damn good. The voice acting, dialogue, and pixel art are fantastic. The overarching plot is decent. The puzzles exist, I suppose -- not bad, but fairly straight forward. Not a walking sim, but not a puzzler either. If nothing else, it never resorts to the insane anti-logic the genre is famous for. If you like point and clicks, it's one of the best recent titles. Takes about 6 hours to beat.
A kind of "action point and click" game. Fast paced, does not pull its punches. Many "oh shit!" moments. Adrian Vaughan as the main voice actor blows it out of the park. Interesting premise, good length, thumbs up!
Amazing game, am really glad it got into my radar. 10/10
Momentum - the adventure game. Seriously, a masterclass in pacing, I've never felt this sense of urgency in a point and click adventure before. This game starts off at full speed and then just gains more and more momentum without letting go. Doing so without any action scenes, and with minimal timed sequences is an accomplishment worthy of a game of the year contender
What a great game! Enough of a throwback to appease anyone who grew up with the genre, but also introduces a very streamlined interface, a helpful chronicling system to track puzzle progress, good writing, and absolutely dripping with style. The soundtrack is incredible!
