While on vacation this year I realized I forgot my laptop mouse. This turned out to be a good thing after I decided to take a shot at Roadwarden due to the dialogue based gameplay. This game is nothing short of excellent. If you're a big reader and enjoy fantasy settings this game is 100% worth it. What this game lacks in graphics and gameplay it makes up for with a branching plot, multiple dialogue choices that feel like they matter, and well written text. Often with games like this I find myself save scumming because of frustrating trial and error style gameplay. Not with Roadwarden. I find myself preparing carefully and gathering information about what kind of threats or people I may encounter. For example: You help an innkeeper with a few tasks gaining his trust. He then opens up to you about another factions leader and passively mentions that they only care about business and hates people who waste their time with idle chitchat. Later when you find yourself talking to that fact...

It's good at what it does, to a certain extent. But this game is really all about the world building, and it failed to pull me in. I don't care that the walls of a building are made of stucco imported from some other province. I don't care that somebody's gambeson is green while the other person's is yellow, or that the guard spends his time practicing axe throwing. There's all kind of superfluous detail like that riddled throughout the text, and it just doesn't matter. It just makes it longer for me to read.
game would be enjoyable, too bad for the ridicolous woke worldbuilding where half the population is gay, every single leader is a woman, and half the soldiers too can't recommend it unless you can turn off your brain completely
I tried the scholar, warrior, and mage routes. While the different classes provide meaningful game-play changes, I can't help but feel like this is the sort of game where it isn't meant to be played blindly. It makes for a frustrating experience sometimes hunting for the right keyword, the Dolmen comes to mind. Maybe this type of game isn't for me. I can't imagine anyone picking this game up, going in blind, and winning on even the standard difficulty the first time around. For more concrete gripes, I find that the setting wasn't that engaging. I never once walked way from a session feeling interested in learning more about the generic fantasy world. Even the village in the marsh, with its undead, failed to engage meaningfully with me. Other things too, like the monster hunters, seemed to defy the set expectations of the world. It was somehow both too wild to live in, yet so mundane that there was time for love fetch quests. Then there is the economy. Quest rewards are minimal and e...
This game is simply amazing—probably one of the best games I've played.
The story packed into this text-based game is enchanting. The trailer immediately resonated with me; the vibes and overall art direction showcased drew me in oh so strongly. I hadn't played a game quite like this before, and I don't think another will scratch the itch the way this one did. I have three separate playthroughs under my belt from my quest to earn all the achievements—one in particular came with some difficulties. The story you take part in—the world itself and the tunes that played in the background—all complemented each other perfectly and gave way to an unforgettable experience. This game might not be for everyone, but you can always check out the demo provided here to see if it suits your taste.
I was scared about the text based aspect, but I really quickly and easily got into it. Loved the story and all the characters, which had interesting personalities. Also enjoyed that the game wasn't that easy, and the moments where I had to input text to guess stuff. Only negative would be that at some point I ended up in a cycle of repetitive actions to be able to amass enough money to advance in the game.
Absolutely outstanding RPG with beautiful artwork, amazing world and nuanced story. The writing is probably some of the best that modern videogames have to offer. Incredibly immersive world full of many multi-faceted characters and intriguing locations to explore. You can feel the impact of your every decision, and truly change the story in meaningful ways. If you are a fan of RPGs, fantasy or good stories in general, buy this game and play it blind. The less you know about it at the start, the better!
Very well crafted Text RPG with tons of choices to be done. Choices that matter. 10-15 hours of playtime that went by in a flash. Im addicted for more now.
One of the best of its kind. I feel like I'm living in the penisula myself, the struggle, the happiness, the conflict, the flaws, the characters, the wild. It might be overwhelmed, lost and lonely, but as long as you don't lose yourself, there will be hope. Don't afraid to seek for help or be vulnerable, but it's also okay to be distant sometimes. It'd better to be kind but don't be a fool. Be selfish, be a fraud, be sad, be happy, be a liar, be a hero. But remember, none of it is easy and forgiving, thrive and bloom yourself in this world, walk on the path of fate, and fate usually bestow those who is right. But there's no such things like absolute right or wrong, it's a matter of perspective, be mindful. The strong/ the rich is right, you may say, but does that make the weak wrong, poor and helpless? Some may think money is everything, while some don't care at all. In my opinion, money is important, and don't compare it or yourself to anything hardly, it just makes your sight smaller...
perfect game 10/10, rarely get to enjoy a game as much as this.
