TL;DR: The second part is here! And I can say it did an amazing job following up the events of the first installment, bringing a lot of improvements along the way. I enjoyed the first game — it had some strong points and interesting ideas — but parts of it felt unpolished or not fully realized. That contrast became even clearer after playing through this sequel. Mask of Deception truly feels like a natural extension of the original. The “soul” of Utawarerumono is still present: memorable characters, immersive environments, slice-of-life moments, and decent combat. What’s great is that these elements were all refined — especially the combat system and how it now blends more naturally into the story. The narrative itself also feels more focused and well-paced. It’s hard for me to give it an even higher score, though, mainly because Mask of Deception is just half of a larger story that continues in the next game.
