It was a rough start but the developers have not quite on this game. They have added a considerable amount and it truly feels like a prospector survival game. The mechanics are competent, I like the carry over of experience and the impact that you, the character, have on the world. Each planet is well developed with different biomes in different places. It is not a fast paced action game. You are up against mother nature, including the animals, and that is your opponent. There is a lot to do and I enjoy the free roam with small missions. There is a lot on offer with this game and it certainly deserves to be up there with ARK and Conan Exiles along with others of that genre.

About This Game
ICARUS is a PvE survival game with both Mission-based and persistent Open World modes for up to eight co-op players.
Endure a savage wilderness on Icarus, an Earth-like terraformed planet now considered humanity’s greatest mistake. From their orbital station, prospectors drop to the planet surface to explore, harvest, craft and hunt while seeking their fortune.
Confront and conquer a brutal PvE world determined to wear you down
From toxic atmosphere to savage wildlife, apex predators to destructive storms and forest fires, Icarus is a planet with a temper. Preparation and planning are everything, whether it’s to find a source of oxygen, stalk your next meal or stockpile supplies for a long journey into the wilderness.
Go at it alone, invite up to 8 Steam friends to join your game or play on dedicated servers.
Immerse yourself in a deceptively familiar, yet formidable, world
The First Cohort of prospectors has been granted initial mining licenses for over 64 square kilometers of hand-crafted terrain, full of hidden caves and biomes to explore. Every single tree is harvestable, every rock can be voxel mined, every creature can be hunted. Tame and ride mounts, craft advanced tech to extract resources faster and prepare yourself for harsher challenges.
Master three separate tech trees: planetary tech, player talents and the orbital workshop
Unlock four tiers of technology from hand-crafted to advanced composites and electronics, plus 8+ different building materials.
Choose from over 100 talents as you specialize your character in exploring, building, farming, hunting, taming, fighting and more.
Return to the orbital workshop to exchange exotic matter for advanced tech and items with unique properties, which may give you an advantage on your next drop.
Three Game Modes: Open World, limited-time Missions, or creative Outposts
However you want to experience Icarus, you can.
Forge your claim in Open World, battling the elements and apex predators for survival and testing the limits of your survival instincts.
Accept timed Missions to mine exotics and earn Ren as you complete tasks for the power brokers overseeing the planet. Drop down to the planet with nothing, establish a base from scratch and escape in time.
Let your creative mind run wild in the Outpost regions with regenerating resources and safe environments.
About the world of Icarus
Icarus was once destined to be a second Earth, but when terraforming collapsed - the air turned toxic and humanity’s hopes of colonizing a new world died. Icarus became a joke, a symbol of humanity reaching for the stars and failing. The xeno-engineers salvaged what they could, released modified embryos and halted the terraforming process.
Yet when they discovered the cause of the failure - exotic matter - new interest was ignited. Valuable beyond reckoning, these ‘exotics’ sparked a gold rush and fueled political tensions back on Earth.
Prospectors flocked to Icarus to complete contracts to extract exotics and conduct research for various factions. Those that survive return to orbit as seasoned veterans, converting their exotics into advanced technology, and taking on ever more challenging drops. Those that get left behind... are lost forever.

Arguably best intermediate difficulty open-world survival game in recent years, at least better than Sons of the Forest in my opinion. You can easily sink hundreds of hours into it. It's not too hardcore or vanilla, suitable for wide range of players.
In this game it's more satisfying to watch yourself die than anything else in the game, took some really cool ideas and made them as annoying and no fun as possible. Also 140+ bucks in DLC get ******
I like the game, it has many potentials to be a good survival game . i have more than 600 hours and i will continue playing occasionally but game has many issues since beta and devs will never going to optimize. Game has many performance issues and especially in multiplayer. you cant build the bases you like because bigger bases produce more lag and hiccup lag in game. you cant have more than 4 5 mounts and pets because making the lag worse. light also making worse the lag. Ai is stupid you can kill everything if you go up on a small rock. many more issues that are same since beta and they will never optimize. in general if you don't mind those issues game have more but you can easily spent few hours in game. the 1st hour is more difficult after is very easy even in hard. all missions are kinda boring just to go around and give materials or scans. very few fights are worth mentioning. now with great hunts you get legendary weapons to kill wolves and deers. I don;'t understand why they...
This game is not worth the tedium and frustration it puts you through. I'd refund if I could.
Horrible optimization, bad performance, and visual wise isn't that great. Base game seems a lackluster in my opinion. One of the worst I notice is the gradual VRAM usage the longer I play. I have been following weekly updates the past few months and doesn't seem the devs care fixing these issues.
Buggy game, broken hit boxes, and the worlds slowest forms of travel. Don't worry though, you can buy another DLC for $30 that just adds shit.
8/10. As a game developer, Icarus has a very strong game design with some flaws that can be fixed or improved. It seems that Icarus is already using some mechanics from Satisfactory, Rust, and Enshrouded. However, there's some pieces that are missing which makes this game seem "unpolished" or "jank". Here is what I like about Icarus vs. other survival games: - The talent tree: the character progression through leveling, which unlocks passive skills to improve your quality of life. It also has a solo talent tree to offset difficulty playing solo, so that's a unique detail. - A lot of content: it takes a long time to develop this amount of stuff, and somehow, they managed to make this much that keeps you playing for hundreds of hours. I don't think people realize how difficult it is for a small studio to do this, but many (including myself) would've stopped adding new content after 1-2 years of development. They're still going, so there's definitely passion coming from them. - Game diff...
I really wanted to enjoy ICARUS, but honestly, it’s a frustrating experience in 2025. Even my friend with an RTX 4070 Super struggles to load the game properly — crashes, long load times, and stuttering are still a problem. The survival mechanics are okay, but the game doesn’t feel particularly realistic compared to other survival titles, which makes some of the immersion fall flat. Considering all that, it’s hard to justify the price right now. Unless you’re a die-hard fan of the developer or want to experience it despite the issues, I’d say it’s not really worth picking up.
Love this game! One of my favorite survival games, especially since they have added being able to stay on the moon and keep your base while you do missions. Every update seems to make the game better.
