About This Game

Originally released on Nintendo 64 in 1997, DOOM 64 is an action first-person shooter and a direct sequel to the events of DOOM II. In celebration of DOOM’s 25th anniversary, an enhanced version of DOOM 64 was released on PC and consoles in 2020 and can now be played here.

Story

Years have passed since you stopped Hell’s invasion of Earth. Quarantined for humanity’s safety, the UAC research facilities on Mars were abandoned and forgotten...until now. A signal from a degraded satellite suggests a single entity remains, and it has the power to resurrect the demons. As the only surviving marine who fought Hell’s forces, you are sent on a lone crusade to hunt down the Mother of Demons and stop a renewed demonic invasion.

Features

Released in 2020 to celebrate DOOM’s 25th anniversary, this enhanced version makes it even easier for players to enjoy the original game on modern platforms. Features include:

  • Upgraded visuals
  • Improved mouse and keyboard controls
  • Gamepad/controller support
  • Widescreen resolution support
  • Native 60 FPS support
  • More than 30 action-packed levels
  • Additional “Lost Levels” continuing the story

This is a super fun version of Doom that I didn't experience back in the N64 days, I didn't realize at the time it was its own thing, completely designed for the N64. Its a bit slower and darker than the original PC versions of Doom, almost more of a horror experience. I actually really like the atmosphere of this one and I think any Doom fan should play it.

First of all, look how they massacred my baby super shotgun. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V74ZT_c75pI&ab_channel=SimonR Are you kidding me? I don’t care if it’s N64 limitation or what, you just find the space for all sprites necessary for the main workhorse weapon of the game, cut the absolute cheap bastard of the final boss if you must. What’s here is a total eyesore and bugged me non-stop the whole game. The game itself is barely passable, too. It starts out fun enough, but quickly dissolves into tedious and idiotic where-do-I-go land. Some of the «puzzles» here are the punishable offense. Flip the switch that opens who-knows-what who-knows-where is one thing, but shoot this thing on a wall (which isn’t a thing the whole game prior) to proceed? Pick up this weapon (you can’t do it if your ammo is full) to proceed? Solve the multi-layer «puzzle» by running around mostly empty level for like 10 minutes to proceed? I am sorry, what game are you making, is it Myst? H...

I missed this gem back when it came out. The game is great. I love new sprites for weapons, mobs, items, etc. Levels have more variety and traps that are part of the level, the sound and level design are really good. I'm having a blast.

When I was young I played a lot of games, and some left an interesting mark on me. One of the platforms that I always loved was the Nintendo 64. Yes, I know, the N64 is not the best console ever, but I loved it. And I still love it. From my time, when I saw some games running on it (like the Star Wars Episode 1 Racer), I remember them very fondly. One of these games was Doom 64. I played it a little bit back then, and then, I played it on emulator when I was not as young. Then, I saw that Nightdive Studios announced the remaster. I had to play it, and I'm glad I spent my money here. This is truly one of those games that I'll always have installed on my machine, since this is one of those games that could be considered one of my "comfort games", being able to go back to it whenever I feel down, or don't know what to play. I 100% recommend this game. It is incredible and worth every cent.

This is DOOM: Overdosing on Benadryl and forgetting you ordered a dominatrix. The dom doesn't really care what you're into and there are no safe words. Straight needles into your bunghole rim. Hell knights and up have been given a buff, there's multiple puzzles on every level and random traps just to spit in your eyes. The fights are hard but the backtracking is harder. The atmosphere is dark, foreign and alienating like an ex-wife. 7/10 because I got it on sale for $2. It would actually sit right up with 1 and 2 if the level design were more intuitive and if it had the full roster of enemies. On level 18 or 20 after the red key door there were legit 7 hell knights in a tiny room. I have never ever thought until I played this game, "thank you Jesus there are arachnatrons in this part". DOOM good.

The gameplay and graphics of this doom entry are very solid. Literally the ONLY reason I cannot recommend it, is the level design. Out of the ~25 ish standard levels (since the rest are secret or bonus), I got stuck on literally at least 15 levels. They would introduce mechanics that are only used for one level, never explained and barely hinted at, and then after you learned it, they would never use it again. One level used a button that looked like a 'light source' and is the only button in the game to look like that, and be used like that. Certain level lock progression or secrets behind 1 specific pickup, and not even like a key, it would be an armor or like rocket launcher pickup. One specific level expected the player to pick up a rocket launcher (player couldn't be full on ammo), and then strategically place themselves within like a 10 pixel space to avoid traps and not die, and on the hard difficulty that I was playing on, this would kill you very fast. Another level just st...
