It's a 99.99% perfect emulation of the original game, with the only changes being to the intro splash screen to compensate for the change in publisher. It's REALLY good, one of my classic favourites... Thanks to Steam remote play you can fully enjoy this game's very novel multiplayer mechanic, or even via couch co-op with keyboard+gamepad

About This Game
After eons of chaos, mankind has finally emerged from the ruin brought on by nuclear war. The world has flourished once again under the guidance of the Great King, who has harnessed the power of the 8 Eyes to rebuild the planet.
The 8 Eyes -- strange and powerful Jewels -- were formed in the stellar centers of eight thermonuclear blasts. To possess them is to possess all earthly power.
Now, a loose confederation of dukes has through treachery banished the Great King and seized the 8 Eyes in a bid for power. And already their petty infighting has the world trembling on the jagged edge of atomic war.
The task of retrieving the Jewels falls to you, Orin the Falconer -- the bravest and mightiest of the King's Guardsmen. With your fighting falcon, Cutrus, you must penetrate the donjon keeps of each of the faithless dukes. There you will face the ducal mercenaries -- and battle living skeletons, giant wasps, mud men, and other mutated horrors. You must defeat the monstrous Boss of each fortress to retrieve the Jewel he guards. If you are able to return the 8 Eyes to the Altar of Peace, the Earth will pass into another millennium of peace and plenty. If not...

Before I review, I just want to mention I had difficulty making a game collection in my youth for two reasons - one being, when I would look for a certain game I would like, either the game was out of stock, or the store (perhaps region?) didn't have it shipped in. The second is economical (even back then, new games in retail stores where around fifty U.S. dollars). Now, I think I remember seeing this in a video game magazine ad & review, and I believe it might have been just before the Super NES was available, so I gave this game a try. Review : This is one of the few games are are surprisingly looked over, it's really a good game. To be honest, it's one of my favorites (I do mean out of all the console and computer games I've played). It probably has all what makes a classic platformer : fun, and original gameplay (especially with the controllable falcon), good graphics (yes, there is a lot to compare with Castlevania), and good audio. Also, two players can play this, one t...
From the creators of the original Sokoban and Megaman II Gameboy comes quite possibly the worst Castlevania clone I've ever played in my life from the NES. This game is so bad in terms of level design & awful hit detection to where it makes Frankenstein: The Monster Returns a masterpiece. As for being a PC port, its just a modify rom slap on an custom emulator with limited display settings and no controller support as the game doesn't recognized the Steam Deck's buttons so I had to make a custom controller layout that binds them to keyboard inputs in order to properly play the game.
8 Eyes is a very good old NES game. Although it was released in 1988, but some features are still popular today. Pros: + Nice music. + Co-op mode. Player 1 will control the hero, player 2 will control his falcon. + All characters have HP bar. Hero can take a lot of hits before he died. + Hero can use sword, special weapons, and his falcon to attack enemy. + Hidden items. Find them can improve the hero's ability or recover his HP bar. + Each kind of enemy has its unique characteristics. Some only can be killed by falcon. + Enemy only can respawn three times in the first play. + Even if you didn't complete the level in the correct order, you still can defeat the Boss. But it's a very difficult way. + After you defeated a Boss, the hero and Boss will have tea together. + The final level is a Boss Rush. + When you get all jewels, the final puzzle is how to place these jewels on an altar in the correct order. Cons: - When you beat the game, you may think it's over. But this is not a true ...
Yea, yea I actually would recommend this game. It ended up being a lot better than I expected it to be from initial impressions. It plays a lot like Castlevania, though you have a much smaller primary weapon - thus less opportunity for damage mitigation. However, the game's design takes this into account. There's opportunities to heal, usually appropriately placed. The biggest hurdle is just figuring the game out. The game, and manual if you track it down (it is not included in this release) both lie. You can tackle the stages in any order, and beat the bosses in any order, but each sword has ONE boss that takes double damage from it. Once you swap to another sword, you cannot go back. So there's a linear pattern you are supposed to play in, but if you are good you can do it however you like. A unique feature is the falcon. In two player mode, the second player controls the falcon, letting them deal damage elsewhere on the screen while the main player progresses. This helps...
This is one of my all-time favorite games, and I never imagined I'd see it on Steam. This is the legit Dark Souls of the NES. It's difficult, but you can master the game with skill and perseverance. The game forces you to take every enemy encounter seriously but at the same time is always very generous with power ups (though they are hidden).I'd say the atmosphere and music in this game is criminally underrated, but it would have to at least be "rated" first for that to be true. No one ever talks about this game's music, but it's among the best these ears have ever heard.Bonus Fun fact: In the Japanese translation, you actually play as James Bond's ancestor (your name is Julian James Bond) instead of a guy named Orin. Seriously.
If you've never played this before it can take some getting used to. You kind of have to time your attacks in the right way to avoid getting hit. Like a retro 2D Dark Souls almost. And that initial part of figuring out the right spacing to not get steamrolled by the enemies can be a bit frustrating. But once you get that down it's a very fun early metroidvania!
It will not let me play the game it loads and plays the same demo animation over and over. I have pressed every key and plugged in a controller mashing everything as well. I was able to right click and go to the options menu but that was it. If anyone has had this problem and knows the fix please comment. If the game dev reads this help please. Looks awesome but I cannot recommend a game I cannot play.
Always loved this classic NES game as a kid, I used to play with my older sister. Bought it instantly when I found it on steam. Its kinda like Castlevania style with a few differences. You can play with a friend and the second player controls the bird on Orin's shoulder which is a good help. It does have controller support, I used the XBOX one controller which was already set up. So, if you wanna flashback that doesn't require acid, play 8 EYES!
An odd little game not sure if the co-op is working in this version but still if it does would make for an couch co-op game.
