About This Game

It's September 1, 1986. You take on the role of forty-something Meredith Weiss, who returns from the big city to her quiet hometown. She exchanges her busy career at a software company to fill in for her dad, the local mail carrier.

During her two-week stay in beautiful Providence Oaks, Oregon, she runs into a few familiar faces as well as plenty of new folk. As Meredith, you get to decide who to talk to, who to befriend and perhaps even start a romantic relationship with.

Whatever happens, at the end of her stint she'll have to make up her mind: return to her demanding job in the big city, or stay in the town she grew up in?

Play Lake and…

  • Escape to a beautiful, rustic environment without cellphones and the Internet.
  • Drive around the lake in your dad's trusty mail truck, or let the auto-pilot do the work.
  • Talk to a range of engaging characters, each with their own personalities and quirks.
  • Choose after-work activities: hang out with your friends, help out your neighbours or stay home and read a book.
  • Experience two weeks of branching story that doesn't shy away from slice-of-life themes.
  • Determine your own story: there are no 'right' or 'wrong' answers or endings, simply what you want to happen.

TLDR: I did enjoy this game overall & I do recommend it (on a sale price). - The game was very buggy in a way that felt like this was still in beta and not a fully released game. The audio and subtitles didn't match at times, characters moved in a weird way, etc. - The graphics are cute but for a game that emphasizes atmosphere they felt outdated, could benefit from better shaders perhaps? - There were a few things that could have made the game feel more alive - I think giving the option to change clothing at the start of the workday would've been nice, even if it was only a couple different outfits/hairstyles to choose from. Or at least automatically changing them for us on different weather days. On the day of a thunderstorm giving her an umbrella or something, just giving it a more realistic feel. - Having her mail bag get gradually smaller the more mail you deliver would've been cool too. - Speaking of weather the changes in weather were nice but they felt .. flat and not full...

You play as Meredith Weiss, a computer software developer who returns to her hometown to take care of her parents' house and temporarily help her dad by working as a mail carrier. The game offers a lot of choices, which is nice, but in the end, it doesn’t feel like they have much impact on the story’s outcome. Lake captures the struggles of life well and how stressful and thankless it can be to balance relationships, friendships, and work. You can expect around 6–8 hours of gameplay to complete the story. I have to say, though, that some of the dialogue options feel a bit off, and many of the responses end up being the same. Still, I would recommend it. It’s a beautiful game that, at least for me, captures something unique and meaningful.

Played through demo, then game crashed. Tried to restart several times, but just opens to a blank, white screen. Verified file integrity, reinstalled, nothing. Apparently this is a known issue with no fixes. Would not buy until devs fix.

I really enjoyed this cozy sim game. The story and characters are very appealing and the setting is idyllic. The game play is simple but not boring. I wish the world was more interactive and populated. Don't expect GTA level of detail and interaction. The story, characters and relaxing game play was perfect for when I was feeling under the weather.

This was definitely a fun, relaxing, and entertaining game. I like that it offers the player choices that will determine how the relationships between townsfolk are developed. There were some pretty funny choices when the end of shift occurred, highly recommend picking reading the book at least once (hilarious). I planning to play the Season's Greetings next and look forward to learning more about all the delightful characters introduced in Lake.

Okay, I loved this game, the DLC was okay, but both felt a bit off with the dialouge. What I mean about that is that, on the one hand I understand and appreciate that this is a feel-good game where nothing bad or dramatic happens, and even the "dramatic" bits are very very soft, so to speak, but in making such a game, where basically everyone and everything is soft and gentle and at its most a bit mischevious or awkward, the writing and dialouge can suffer from what I would call "religious sect speak". Like something you would hear in a christian propaganda/persecution complex movie. And I might have mistaken it for something like that were it not for the (welcome) addition of a scene with some certain offerings around a camp fire, and some other small details. I mean, no human speaks this way and it can be a bit weird. BUT, the gameplay loop of delivering mail and packages in a non stressful environment (compared to how stressful the reality of postal work is) with little side quests ...

I think the game play is very simple but hard enough to be interesting. The story line is a little fragmented and at the end, the romances all fail by design, or the main character cannot obtain her main goal, to either return to her old job or keep the new job. But it is still quite moving.
