About This Game

Seven years after the destruction of her home, Olenine wanders the land as an exorcist, a specialist who harnesses spiritual essences to confront supernatural forces. Yet with her rare knowledge of inhuman languages, she strives to settle conflicts through words rather than violence.

Tasked with rescuing an influential merchant’s daughter from Gremach, a fortress besieged by ghouls, Olenine must use knowledge, power, and diplomacy to unravel a grudge spanning generations. When plunged into a maze of unspeakable secrets—including her own—can she bring peace to both the living and the dead?

・A Canadian-produced visual novel featuring a rich cast of characters, a dark fantasy setting, and a roughly 3-hour storyline (~55k words)

・Your choices will determine the course of Olenine’s journey with multiple branching paths and two possible finales; experience both to unlock an additional epilogue

・30+ expressive character sprites, 17 pieces of background art, and 19 special illustrations

・15 original music tracks

I don't think I have played this game for 61 minutes only (Steam is definitely messing that up). I have probably played it for 3-4 hours. Short review: this is a good game. With a good story. It is worth the price. Longer review: this was my first time playing a visual novel. In terms of story-based games, I am most familiar with RPGs. So, maybe because I am new to visual novels, I was surprised to see that this game does not involve roleplaying a character. Even though you sometimes make choices for the protagonist, you are *not* the protagonist. The protagonist is hiding secrets which will reveal themselves over time. Even once the game ends, its clear that you do not fully understand the protagonist. There is much more to their story (I am guessing sequels are in order :). On a similar note, choices in the game matter in an interesting way, in comparison to "choice based RPGs". The choices are actually meaningful, because they can reveal different aspects of the protagonist....

The stories are gripping, and I found the decisions I needed to make compelling, I had to think about them. I felt acutely that the many strong characters had thoughts and emotions I would have to discover as the story progressed, including the narrator. I've played five hours thus far, in two sittings that both went longer than I'd planned.

What a pleasant surprise this turned out to be! This visual novel contains an engaging story-line with thrilling plot twists, a cast of interesting, non-cliche characters, and a lovely, intelligent heroine. Setting: Revenant March is a dark fantasy set in the Middle Ages. It tackles two mysteries: the horrors that occur in Gremach, and Olenine's backstory. Characters: I absolutely loved following Olenine's perspective, and how logical minded, yet still empathetic she could act towards the other characters. She ticks all of the boxes in my female protagonist requirements, and I wish we had more main characters similar to her. The side characters are memorable, and their dynamic with Olenine was impressive. Most noteworthy were her interactions with other, equality well written, female characters; such as Tanith and Seilana. But I have to say, her possible friendship with Ennet was also very precious. The vn lacks romance, but the way the story unfolds makes up for it. I recommend R...

Played and beat the game in one sitting, got it and wasn't expecting much from it. But the story and characters really pull you in and it is a really good game. But I have one issues with the game That one being that for a game that is all about choices their is only one ending that sucks in my opinion. But over all I really like this game and if you have the money for it I say go for it and get it.

I'm sleep-deprived and I feel bad for not finding this game sooner. Seriously, this is worth more than the price tag that I'm considering donating to the developer on itch. io for how good they made this underrated gems. Yes, the art is just finding its footing, but the writing is where this game is at. So what is it about? Well, without spoiling too much, we play as Olenine (or Olly) who is an exorcist being hired to deal with finding the missing niece as well as the occurrence of ghoul and revenant outside the village. I have only recently gotten interested in the premise of the undead and zombies, but this game just amplified that, not only is the writing intriguing with a few bumpers, and doing a good job establishing the lore as well as writing plot twists without making them come out of nowhere. It was quite addicting that I just give typing notes and just screenshots of whatever details I would need to remember, so I could just enjoy the game for what it is without pause. As f...
Borderline on buying?
This game contains a small, polished, and detailed narrative experience. The characters are interesting and heartfelt. I primarily play these narrative-based games, and can assure you that this is a good story with decent pacing. Replaying this game a few times is rewarding, with there being several "clever in hindsight" moments that will only reveal themselves to you after you know everything happening behind the scenes. The game has very few endings, but those endings are determined by a lot of small choices that add up. Several optional dialogue choices will also reveal new information, which also make these endings a bit more profound. I'm happy to try and answer any comments if you have more questions.

A visual novel that takes place in a fantasy world where some people can speak to, negotiate with, or (most typically) destroy the dead. You are sent to a town beset by the undead and have to solve the mystery as to why they are doing this. In the meantime, you'll be faced with a the locals, who are distrusting of outsiders. As you continue through the storyline, you'll learn more about the town's history, the real villains behind everything, and even some information on your own mysterious background. To be honest, I'm not really a huge fan of most visual novels. I'm not sure how I ended up purchasing this one...maybe it was in a bundle or a particular good sale. Regardless, I'm glad I ended up buying it! With many visual novels I start to get impatient with the storyline part way through (often due to pacing issues or predictable storylines). However, there were enough interesting mysteries here that were paced out well enough that I stayed hooked the entire time and played i...

Wow, I did not see this coming. Really brilliant story, although getting the perfect ending can be quite easy to miss. Also the music was simply a masterpiece. All in all, it was a very enjoyable game with a beautiful story and excellent music. Looking forward to more.

The writing is excellent and there are several interesting twists that really deepen the intrigue. It seems like they're setting up for a sequel and I definitely intend to play it if/when it comes out. Note though that this seems more like a single story than a choose-your-own-adventure style visual novel. I only played through a couple sets of different choices, but from what I saw, the story is kind of linear and there aren't many different endings. There are a couple key choices that really only have one option. However, the quality of the story makes up for it. One playthrough seems to take around 2.5 hours, but I could easily see myself spending another couple hours playing through different choices, so I feel like $5 is worth it.
