About This Game

A Foul Fog has risen, turning Unwashed Sinners Poxy, and Lo! an Army of Demon's doth March in Evil Crusade! Take the Cross and Raiseth a Holy Army. March across festering marshlands, liberate besieged villagers, brave evil forest, and fight tooth-and-nail in treacherous ravines.

Gather peasants and forge them into veteran fighters. Liberate towns to gather more skilled fighters and equipment. But an army requires resources, and resources are scarce. Will you keep supplies at the ready to replenish your soldiers in mid-battle? Or outfit extra fighters before the action?

Weigh your choices carefully. The foe will punish thoughtlessness.

Only a well-executed formation can withstand a Beastly Cavalry stampede. Only a meticulously planned castle defense can hold steady against a siege of Demon Knights and Bloodsucker heavy-infantry.

Every unit has distinct skills. All are powerful, but none may survive alone. Teamwork is the only path to victory.

If you expect this fight to be easy, O! Ye shall learn. Chaotic, desperate battles will test even the most seasoned commanders.

Tis not enough to be clever. Ye must stand firm with Faith.

Archers fire volleys to support infantry locked in grim melee. Skirmishers harass and keep watch for enemy ambushers. Cavalry speeds around the flanks, crushing enemies severed off from the horde. Every unit has it's use. Here's a sneak peek of just a few:

The backbone of any city-fighting army. Tough and dangerous. But Soldiers are slow and vulnerable when the situation calls for speed and adaptability.

While Spearman can't dole-out the demon death dealing as mightily as Soldiers, there is no better choice of infantry unit if you need to cover ground fast.

The real problem with demons is that they just stink beyond all reason. Good to keep your distance. Ballista is the perfect tool for impaling a black demon heart from about three hexes away. Very handy, but rare. Be sure to protect your ballista.

A powerful shock force capable of smashing lesser demon units in a single charge. Yet caution your attack - Men-at-Arms don't have the endurance for a drawn-out melee.

A strange race of humans that live in forest, far yond the realms of men. Normally peaceable, but since the Demon Army took to Evil Crusade, the Headless Men have been acting up. They aren't too dangerous - unless they get you surrounded. Beware the ambush.

There seems to be several varieties of imps. All of them are pains in the arse. But Imp Riders....you're gonna hate these guys. They're faaast and they got a dangerous skirmish attack. Don't let these guys catch you in the open.

These wicked fiends hit hard, and if you don't have the right tools to punch through solid metal armor, you're in for a painful death. Do not take the Demon Knight lightly.

What needs be said? A big, ugly beast atop a bigger uglier beast, which is charging way faster than anything that huge has right to. You'll need armor defeating capability and advantageous terrain. Even still, expect casualties.

Two distinct, single-player campaigns:

The Adventure Campaign follows a band of brigands who mix up with one of the last godly men capable of fighting back the hordes of hell. Stinky-cheese voice acting with Monty Python-esque quips will cool down the inferno somewhat, but the action builds into epic, hour+ long battles. Please, stay hydrated.

The Strategy Campaign gives a no-nonsense nose dive right into old school strategy. The armies are smaller and the battles shorter, meaning every turn is critical and small mistakes are costly. Take your time and think your way through - defeat will strike fast and hard. Hardcore gamers can challenge themselves for a perfect Golden Goblet playthrough. Be ready to punch that restart button in sweaty revenge!

-16 Beautiful levels designed to look like detailed dioramas
-26 highly detailed unit figurines based on authentic early-medieval Christian art
-Characters gain perks and may be upgraded, allowing you to build a customized army that will be unique to each playthrough
-No gimmicky challenge or cheap shots. Polished, fair challenge.
-Simple interface. Entire game can be played using only a mouse.
-A game by gamers, for gamers, and for the love of gaming.

Nope. I struggled to give this one a chance. From a technical standpoint, it's fine. Graphics are good, no glitches, combat system is simple, economics could use work but not a big deal. But the voice acting and the writing are nothing short of dreadful. I might have given it a pass, chocked it up to being geared towards the humor of a grade-schooler, until one of the characters said "fucketh". Nope. Voice acting is a bunch of amateur Americans doing their Ye Olde Timeie Englishetheth Gov'nah accent, the writing is at par with Adam Sandler. "Shitteth my breeches" kind of stuff. I wish I were being sarcastic, but that's actual dialog. Nice idea. Needed to be made by an entirely different group of people.

To Battle!!! (much rejoicing.) Hell’s Crusade as they put it is old school turn base play. Very old school. It is satirical medieval turn base with two early options for you in campaign and veteran play. How would I describe it? It has a style of tabletop figurines battling in a chess strategic format warfare and childish humor. It has some pros and cons. Pros: Game play: Hexagon play, easy to learn, move, action and kill or be killed chess play. Leveling up soldiers and some bonus terrain. No real micro managing supplies, building stuff, or expense sheet accounting to worry about. Check. Tactics: The Tactical warfare is very easy to grasp with multiple in turn purposes, classes and base function to each unit. Like Chess, the Bishop does one thing, Rook another. From Peasants to Scouts, with progression upgrading and trait bonuses. So far so good. Narrative: An attempt at Python storytelling, narration, and very little luck involved. Choppy voice overs that showcases the table-to...

Changed my review to NEGATIVE (after 7 people found my review helpful) due to the game locking up when opening Options->Video Options and it is still too difficult (I am not earning enough gold per battle to replace or upgrade current troops lost in previous battle) even after the last minor patch. This game is too difficult and too frustrating for me. I think this game needs degrees of difficulty added (at least 3, e.g., easy/story, normal/playable, hard/grognard/rogue-like). I am not a Grognard who wants to replay every battle ten times to eek out a Pyrrhic victory (and not win enough gold/supplies to replace my troops). I would like to play it on easy mode the first time to get a feel for the maps, strategies, tactics, builds, etc. In regards to difficulty, Devs please add levels of difficulty (PG/PC have 5 levels), if not, I fear many players, like me, will try this game for a couple of hours and then never revisit it again (that is me now, I just changed review to negative, goo...

If Monty Python made a board game it would probably look like this. So quitteth thy bitching and goeth and buy it already ye filthy peasants!

Years ago "Warcraft" did have peasants who certainly sound a bit Monty Pythonish because they were funny in a fun game. For me at least "To Battle: Hell's Crusade " is neither.I do find the bunged on accents completely annoying in an already annoying game due to the difficulty moving your troops around a map that is small and far from clear. Music is nice , your troops are just okay certainly not well done..It's absolutely linear, I find movement difficult, I certainly don't find it fun or funny..Turn based games should induce the dreaded just one more turn effect that leads to many a very late night No way that's going to happen with this. Am I playing the same game as all the folk who think this is good stuff.? Seems odd..Not recommended.

Am really enjoying the game so far.It is turn based tactical miniature warfare the way i like it.The dialogue is quite humourous in a pythonesque/blackadder style and suits the game well. There is a more content coming in the pipeline and this will only add to what is already in place. For people who enjoy turn based games i can recommend it.This will be staying on my HD for a long time

Great turn based game with Monty Python humor. Currently there are two campaigns, both of which are well put together and fun. Overall just good fun.

Not a big fan. You will lose units. You have to train them up and do objectives in a certain turn limit. I've never been a fan of games that downgrade your rewards, based on turn limits. Which means...the worst players, stay bad and the good players, get awesome. Resources are hard to come by and you have a choice of using them to rest and heal your wounded, constantly or try to save them, for purchasing new units, between scenarios. Obviously, there is a balance, between those two alternatives, but it means your units will frequently not be at 100%. Even if you are going to overall route an enemy, the AI is good at focus firing one unit and killing it. Killing one unit will take probably half of your resources, to replace, in the between game muster. Add to that, the unit likely had several level ups, that the new unit didn't have. So, your army is now weaker, but going to face tougher foes. I don't find this game all that fun. I can't recommend it.

Despite quite a nice looking aesthetic and an interesting art-style that suits the medieval atmosphere, I couldn't really get on board with this one. I guess I was kind of hoping for a turn-based version of Wartile but the low production value of this game really does harm it. From the cheap looking title-page and the atrocious voice-acting; to the weak combat animations and lacklustre sound quality, there is just not enough here to make me want to continue with the campaign. Add the fact that the figures kind of get lost in the landscape and this is a definite thumbs down. Finally, for a game with such low system requirements why does it heat my PC up like an oven?
