A Summer's End - Hong Kong 1986

Goodness. I can't recommend this enough. It's a work dripping with passion, from the 1980s Hong Kong setting and aesthetic to the old film references. It's a lovely, gripping work and the acknowledgement at the end brought me to tears. It is full of beautiful art, densely packed, full of emotion and passion. If there is one niggle to me, it's that the basic character art has plain faces and eyes, but they make up for it with such varied outfits (imagine that, people wearing different outfits day to day!) and the absolutely gorgeous full pictures and background art. And all that in service of an emotionally rich, grounded story that told of struggles a lot of us face. 10/10.

This is the best visual novel experience I have ever played. Just play it if you care about anything that the game mentions in the description, it handles all of it so well. The type of story you speed read because it is crucial to know what happens next, and in my case also to not get too emotional. The final acknowledgement in the credits tells you everything you need to know about why you should support this game. Before that the bonding over Brigitte Lin,Anita Mui and feeding a cat are just wonderful ways to illustrate this well-written poignant story whose dialouge, characters and setting are never caricatures, they are the game, the message, and the story. realistic, heartfelt, and comes from a place of genuine expression. I am also impressed how the adult patch here is actually related to character development and relationship investment and not any sort of attention grab. Beautiful
