About This Game

Hydroneer is a mining sandbox game where you dig for gold and other resources to build massive mining machines and a base of operation. Use primitive tools, hydro-powered machines, and player-built structures to dig and evolve your operation in this tycoon-style progression system.

Dig Deep!

Using a state-of-the-art voxel based terrain system, you can create cave networks, quarry pits, or even mud mountains. Discover relics of the past in the depths of Hydroneer, with better rewards the deeper you dig.

Forge, Build, and Create!

Hydroneer features a dynamic modular system for building structures and hydro powered machinery. Create the base of operations from your own design to optimise your work. Create networks of hydro pipes, control pressure. Craft resources, weaponry, jewellery, grow vegetables, and cook soup for villagers.

Hydro Powered Vehicles

Large hydro powered machines used for a variety of uses, from digging resources and finding ore veins, to transporting goods.

Explore the World of Hydroneer

Various parcels of land await you in the world of Hydroneer, each with their own advantages. Deeper pits, attractive scenery, and closer stores. You decide where to build your base of operations.

I love Hydronner, basically because you can choose what you want to do. you can go fishing, farming, or mining, or possibly more. i'd definitely recommend this game to anybody thinking to buy. and to anybody who reads this, i hope you have a great day :)

At least for me, too clunky and tedious to even get to the interesting-ness of building and managing setups. The complete lack of any inventory or way to manage items en-mass felt awful. Add that to needing to pour items into other items, and then have them hit edges and get stuck. Then you have to move the offenders by hand or the float in the air stopping you from working. Etc I understand you want to have some negative tension on hand managing things in an automation game, to push you towards automation, but this just felt bad overall to me.

Everything about this game is always 75% there. No feature is perfect. Just one instance of this is you grind tokens to get Hydromole thinking this vehicle going to make the game so much easier but it handles so terribly that it's not worth it. Also why is buying things such a fucking hassle, I get spreading things out, forcing people to spend money to get closer to shops but even then it's all about positioning yourself just so you can do everything in less clicks. Those are just two little things and the whole game is like this it's fine if it was once in a while you have to do the annoying task but usually have to do it all the time. I would leave a mixed review but I can't. I'm not saying don't get it I'm just saying be prepared for these things.

On the surface, this game checks a lot of boxes for me - automation, progression, base building, etc. In reality, the terrible controls, item placement jank, lack of an inventory, and excessive grind (at least in the early game) killed it for me. Here is the game loop for the first 90 minutes: 1. Drop the bucket near you on the ground 2. Pick up the shovel by pressing E 3. Left click the ground, left click the bucket. Repeat 4 times. 4. Drop the shovel by pressing E 5. Look at the full bucket and pick it up by pressing E 6. Walk over to your pan, drop the bucket by pressing E 7. Pick up the pan and drop it in the water with E to fill it 8. Pick up the full pan with E, drop it on the ground with E, hope it lands face up 9. Pick up the bucket again by pressing E, get the shadow to align with the bucket (which isn't centered in the viewport), then left click to pour the bucket into the pan 10. Drop the bucket with E 11. Pick up the brush with E 12. Left click the pan with the brush to re...

Tis fun and fills the spot in my heart that is a miner and smithy all at once. very simple to get the hang of, and loads of fun with a friend or two to help majorly speed up progression. All in all, 8-10 can certainly recommend.

I like the game but there just isn't much game to be had, it feels more like a proof of concept for the mechanics instead of a full fledged game. The initial gearing up was a slog but it did feel fulfilling to go from working with a bucket and brush to getting the starter machines. It even felt good letting those machines run to build up enough to get them hooked up with basic belts and sorters so I could finally move to whatever is next... and then it just ends. There's nothing left that needs doing, you can buy more plots sure and you can run around doing some other random side stuff that doesn't matter but there's zero chase or goals. If you do buy more plots it's just redoing what you already did after making more machines. I think the implied goal is to work on ramping up production so you can get more machines to continue ramping up production so you can get more slightly faster machines? This... doesn't make sense to me, there's no new automation to get and nothing to do with...
