Before I start: This game does not feature a seizure warning, but it does use a stroboscope effect twice. Additionally, some levels feature effects that will induce vertigo in most people. Be warned. ----- A Glider's Journey is a game where you control a glider through 15 levels. In each of these levels you have to collect all the boosts on your path, and then land on a pad that turns green. The game looks gorgeous, and you sometimes forget that this game is built from low-pylogon elements. Controlling a glider is fun, and getting to know how a glider operates is interesting. The game features several difficulty-modes, where on "very easy" you control a glider-shaped projectile that does not really obey any laws of physics, and on "easy", "medium" and "hard" your glider becomes an actual glider that becomes more unstable the harder your difficulty. As such I recommend to play at least on "easy". The music in this game fits the game and the track that plays in the background describe...

About This Game

A Glider's journey is a game about exploring a relaxing, colorful low poly world; while still challenging your piloting skills till the very end of each level.
The very simple controls (one joystick, no throttle no rudder) makes it very easy to pickup, but hard to master, thanks to the physics-based flight model.
"HARD-CORE FLIGHT EXPERIENCE"
It offers a realistic flying experience, quite similar to an actual flying wing, where stalls and spins are a definite possibility...
A "Very Easy" mode with simplified physics is also available, if you are rather seeking a more relaxing low-poly world exploration experience.

- 15 levels featuring a variety of unique low poly biomes. (playtime ranging from 40 minutes to 2+ hours depending on your skill set)
- Unique custom made soundtrack for every level style and feel.
- Fully Physics simulated flight model.
- An immersive experience thanks to the removal of all HUDs, completely replaced by subtle visual and audio indicators, such as the wind noise and wing particles for speed, the color of the wings for the progression of the level etc...
- A variety of flight maneuvers, from chandelles to split S'es and spirals.
- Intuitive flight controls
- "Very easy" mode with approximated, simplified physics
Quick note:
A Glider's journey was entirely made by a pair of passion driven indie game developers, so please keep that in mind when you think about buying this game. It's a small and simple game with not that many hours of gameplay. What we wanted to create is a simple but challenging game that could give you the feeling of flying in a different reality.Screenshots
User Reviews
Pretty nice glider flying game, not easy at all, takes some practice to get the hang of it. Definitely a fun challenge! I've only played it with an Xbox 360 controller and ended up adjusting the horizontal sensitivity down a tad, this should help you a little if you're finding yourself over steering often. It's definitely worth $5 if you enjoy a challenge.
I really hate to give this one a negative review...
There are definitely some good things about this game, like the concept, level design and the colourful low-poly aesthetics which I personally like a lot, but the real downer for me is that you have to pick up 'Boosts' to stay in the air, meaning you have to follow a predetermined path in every level (which can also be far from 'relaxing' as advertised), or you have to switch to 'Very Easy' mode which keeps you in the air indefinitely but also makes you fly permanently at a constant speed. Meaning you can't manually accelerate or decelerate in this game. Really? A game about flying, without the possibility of using gas and brakes? That's not too much to ask for, is it? (Granted, the game is called 'A Glider's Journey' but why is your aircraft a flying wing with an engine then? That's contradictive.) Or am I just missing something here? (Couldn't figure it out in the Options menu, either and that wasn't even the fault...
As someone who has one of these gliders in real life, the physics are nearly perfect. The way it slightly wiggles when you move the elevons is very accurate. This is for Normal difficulty; Hard is basically impossible. It's likely that at least 1% of the 1.7% of users that apparently completed this on hard cheated the achievement. It took me 2.7 hours to get through the game on Normal. I did this on a controller, and I don't think this would be enjoyable without an analog stick. It's not like Superflight which was made for mouse control. I would say a controller is required. https://store.steampowered.com/app/732430 A Glider's Journey is really good. Definitely worth it for the price.
An absolute nightmare to control. I got many hours on professional, highly realistic flight simulators including gliders and high performance vintage aircraft, flying them into and out of difficult, confined situations. I think I really got the hang of virtual flying, but this game? Impossible. No tutorial, no place to get aquainted with the flight characteristics. Already the 1st level is frustratingly difficult and I fear it will throw off many potentially interested players. The beautiful graphics can´t compensate for these shortcomings One of the very few games I asked a refund for.
Re-Revised Review: This game is excellent and the difficulty levels do make a difference, however level 3 on "Very Easy" still involves a long tortuous twisting tunnel of rings, and if you miss one icon then you don't unlock the next level. So I guess it's using a [Dark Souls = Easy] scale. Just for reference I completed first 2 Pilotwings games with mostly perfect scores, here I reached level 5 on "Very Easy" but doubt that I will get much further. I will try to complete level one on "Normal" so good value for money really.
I'll rate positive because of the nice graphics and relaxing music. Controls are barely passable at BEST though imo... Can't really see myself playing this further, sorry.
Will only fly by keyboard (rather than joystick) so cannot recommend.
Was a bit confusing/difficult at first but after only crashing a few times it got easier. It's still not smooth but I'm guessing I'll learn that with time. It looks stunning, it manages to both be calming and challenging. Occasionally you'll have what feels like an unfair death but they're really rare (or more likely you just flew badly). If I have any gripe it's nitpicky like the menu not reacting in real time which initially confused me whether I clicked the right thing. I can really recommend it; it's simple, it's beautiful, and it owns it :) Almost finished with it now and I stand by my word!
for the price it's really nice, you can see that the devs put love and passion in this game, flight model feels good especially in medium difficulty, levels are cute and artsy and with the music it is a really relaxing experience but i think that this game has a lot of wasted potential. if it was a proper game with different game modes, multiplayer (whatever these games are too niche for multiplayer anyway) and more levels i'd spend 10x the actual price. A map editor would also be a nice addition i understand that this is an artistic game tough so maybe it could become a bit too cluttered.
