> Start a new studio. > Start Souls-like project for max gains. > Hires full art and tech teams to speed up graphics and code. > Lone designer keeps fucking up mechanics and only gets negative stats every encounter. > Get to the end of the project and realize there's no mechanics. > Realize I've released walking sim Souls. > 2/5 - "Wheres the game!?" - Game Raider. > TFW I am what I hate most - a walking sim dev.

About the Game

Live through the life of a developer in the short game, Gamedev Beatdown.
Have you ever wondered what goes behind the scenes of games that you love or whose names you never got to hear?
Have you ever been in a meeting that felt more like a war room? With the loudest voice winning arguments and deciding what decision gets implemented?
Play as a member of a team, making some hard and some not so hard decisions. If you win, your choices get implemented. Lose, and your game and studio might head in a direction you did not sign up for.
Work your way up from arcade-style games to full-fledged AAA releases. Once you start your journey as an Indie developer, move to new studio locations and hire the right people as you work your way up in the industry. There's a lot to handle, but you've got this. It was your dream, after all.
Did we tell you how Game Development wasn't easy?

- Decision Making - Back decisions of different departments on day to day issues.
- Management - Manage Employee Happiness and tactical Crunch times for maximized productivity.
- Procedural rogue-lite progression.
- Deep Combat (Allegedly) - Persistent stress tolerance (health) between projects. Think long term instead of battle to battle.
- Exotic Locations - Move to different locations that unlock some unique games to develop.
- Choices and Consequences - Fight over real, real-adjacent, and a few entirely fabricated day-to-day problems game developers face.
- Evolving Mini-games - Play the games you release as mini-games that look better and/or unlock functionality with higher stats on release.

I have been working in the games industry for about 10 years. And as a developer can relate to all that happens at work. Overall a very funny game with a great art style and fun game-play.
Good idea, addictive game, but a lot of bugs, UI elements hang over the screen and it is not possible to progress without relaunching the game., this issue happened several times. Bad controller support, I would say it is partial, not full as it is shown in game details. A lot of elements not working from controller. And I still cannot understand is there an act 3 at all? I see in the review the answer that there is no. And by achievement progress I also can see 0% for this achievement. But this game is not in early access any more, why does act 3 missing?
Its a fun game for a few hours until you realize there's 0 replay value.
Fun snarky look at the perils of game dev and a good intro to the technical jargon. Love the parody games you get to ship, the behind the scenes events and all the inside jokes. Do designers really talk like wannabe punks?
GameDev Beatdown is very entertaining with extremely funny and quirky writing. It puts you in the shoes of running a game development studio and depicts behind the scenes of game development process very accurately. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole process of starting from small indie studio, managing team, making tough decisions and developing multiple games. I would totally recommend this game to anyone for experiencing what goes behind making a game.
Gamedev Beatdown is a turn based action rpg game with a quirky story depicting development of games in the gaming industry. The game revolves around different playable characters from different departments of the gaming industry and gives the player a unique incite into the decision making that goes into making a game. Even though you will end up making difficult choices that can impact your game in terms of sales or customer satisfaction, the game has a pun based humorous dialogue lines that will make you laugh and make the tough decisions look trivial. The turn based fighting is similar to all other turn based games, which makes it easier for players to learn the gameplay. If you love games like South Park : Stick of Truth, you'll love this game.
Short, sweet, and incredibly funny!. The story was simple but tight, the mechanics were fun and everything worked smoothly, and the graphics were fun (they reminded me a little of the Newgrounds era for some reason. The whole game has a Newgrounds vibe actually). I wish it were a little longer because I was engaged the whole time! Looking forward to what the developers make next :)
Not very optimized for controllers, the whole game dev part is very much a theme with lack of actual business elements. Not what i was expecting.
Game just doesn't seem finished. I got an error message at the end of the 3rd run that just said they didn't have any more unique events. I couldn't do anything, I couldn't move past that event (second to last) and just finished the game (of the run), it just hard blocked me.
