Great: - The art and visual design is top-tier. - The music is great. - It's nostalgic. - Cool little things like bird races and challenge versions of bosses. - Beating a level feels like an accomplishment. - The world is appealing. - Each level has high replay value. Okay: - You will die and need to memorize the level or set of moves to continue, just like in the era that the game successfully emulates. Bad: - The controls tend to be slippery and leave you with too much or too little momentum, which you can't reverse when you need to. Some people might actually prefer this. Think Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, but not as brutal. I found it frustrating, despite having beaten some challenging video games. - It sometimes feels like the game doesn't respect the player's time or energy. Why do we have to use the currency collected in a level just to use a checkpoint in that level? The most difficult segments are often behind 4 minutes of gameplay without a checkpoint. Love the art and the charm. The game play is alright but feels floaty and kind of hard to get used to. Fun ideas for sure and there's probably lots left to see but I am finding it too frustrating to continue atm. Better conveyance would be my biggest suggestion for any future outing. I don't need a novel's worth of text but knowing what pick ups do and getting an idea of what enemies do before you put yourself in their path would be great. Really wish there was a neutral option for posting but ill go with thumbs up for now since I think a lot of the issues I have most people probably wont.
