About the Game

Fire up a wild ride across the cosmos with a fresh take on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. In this third-person action-adventure game, you are Star-Lord, and thanks to your bold yet questionable leadership, you have persuaded an oddball crew of unlikely heroes to join you. Some jerk (surely not you) has set off a chain of catastrophic events, and only you can hold the unpredictable Guardians together long enough to fight off total interplanetary meltdown. Use Element Blasters, tag-team beat downs, jet boot-powered dropkicks, nothing’s off-limits.

If you think it’s all going to plan, you’re in for a world of surprises, with the consequences of your actions guaranteed to keep the Guardians on their toes. In this original Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy story, you’ll cross paths with powerful new beings and unique takes on iconic characters, all caught in a struggle for the galaxy’s fate. It’s time to show the universe what you’re made of.

You got this. Probably.

LEAD THE GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

You play as Star-Lord, so nothing’s off-limits with your bold combat style, from Element Blasters and jet boot-powered dropkicks to tag-team beat-downs. With the Guardians fighting at your side, call the shots and overwhelm your opponents with signature attacks. Meanwhile, the consequences of your decisions will range from light-hearted to downright unexpected as your journey unfolds.

ALL-NEW STORY

Your newly-formed band of legendary misfits is set to save the universe in this fresh but faithful take on the Guardians of the Galaxy. Somehow, you set off a chain of catastrophic events, leading to a wild ride through mind-blowing worlds inhabited by iconic and original Marvel characters. Turn up the all-star ‘80s mixtape and get ready to kick it.

FROM MISFITS TO SUPER HEROES

You’re the only thing holding the unpredictable Guardians together, so you’ll have to get better at this leadership thing fast. With this offbeat approximation of a family at your side, there will be tears and laughter as you set about tearing into the cosmos together. Whatever’s waiting around the next corner, you know it’s going to be a blast.

What a game. Going in, I wasn’t sure what to expect superhero games can be a hit or a miss. But this one surprised me in the best way. It’s funny, heartfelt, and packed with a story that works without leaning on the movies. The story and characters are the real stars here. The banter between the Guardians is constant and often gave me a genuine chuckle, but it never feels like filler. Every character gets their moment, and some hit harder than I expected.
Mantis stole the show for me with her weird, prophetic, almost “out of time” way of speaking. And Drax’ grief over his wife and daughter gave the game a weight I didn’t see coming, the way the Guardians supported him felt genuine.
Gameplay was a mixed bag. Combat could feel repetitive at times, but the variety of Guardian abilities and the different ways to play as Star-Lord kept it engaging enough for one (maybe two) playthroughs. The real hook wasn’t the fighting anyway it was hearing the team’s ...

Interactive movie more than a game but plenty of funny moments to be worth it (if it's on sale). Story shifts between painfully awkward, awkwardly funny and deep melodrama, pretty much what I expected Guardians of the Galaxy to be. Can't say how it compares to previous GotG episodes, never seen any of them but compared to other Marvel/DC works I appreciated how it used humor and sarcasm as much as drama to tell the story. Maybe I'm just fatigued by all the over serious Marvel/DC heroes or the madness in real geopolitics...

Get it on sale. I honestly don't understand how it got the high scores that it did. The story is kinda eh, the character models have plastic-like skin and REALLY weird focus on their teeth, and the game itself has significant issues -- I had to reload last checkpoint five times during my playthrough just to get a fight to register itself as completed once all waves were defeated. When it does work, the gameplay is relatively simplistic. There's a lot of walking just for the sake of walking, boss fights are on the easy side mechanically, and the few flying sequences largely consist of knowing when to dodge from side to side. All that walking around allows players to hear some pretty solid voice acting, though they do a lot of shouting outside of fight scenes that seemed kinda weird and sometimes they were a little TOO talkative -- running out of unique things to say if a fight went too long. New Game+ is a nice touch, though it doesn't seem to add much (if anything) to the story. ...

Review after 100% Completion Marvel's Avengers failed this and Midnight Suns. This is better than the movies. I agree that it lacks some depth in gameplay, but I can definitely recommend its story and everything. You can’t definitely complain about its price since it is discounted most of the time. The cast and their interactions are perfect; you can stand idle for minutes just to listen to what they are talking about. The team’s character development, especially Drax’s and Rocket’s, is executed well. Drax leading the Katathian Battle Anthem while the team sings along will definitely be in my top gaming moments of all time, and it is not even a cutscene to start with. I know it is impossible, but give me a sequel or a spin-off with a different cast (Jack Flag, Moondragon, Bug, and Yondu). Don’t bother 100% completing it since some achievements are bugged, and you will need to delete a file and do a lot of backtracking.

My Steam Deck Se...

I didn't expect to enjoy this game as much as I did. They really nailed the GOTG humor. Combat is also very good for this type of game. If you have issues with crashing/freezing, disabling ray tracing and DLSS worked for me.

Underrated Gem. The gameplay is a bit weak, but everything else is pretty good, especially the dialogues.

Game crashes and stutters too much. Makes playing it frustrating it. Would be a fun game without the issues.

Few games are ballsy enough to start with you listening to a 50 minute space metal album created specifically for the game itself. The choice to stop listening and to continue the story... Is yours.
I'll start by admitting that I haven't (Yet!) played Insomniac's Spider-Man games, so my knowledge of really good comic book inspired games is somewhat reduced. Having said that, I think Eidos Montreal's Guardians of the Galaxy is the best big budget, comic book based game I played since the Batman Arkham games. When it comes to the main cast, there's just the right mix of familiarity with the MCU movies and the extended lore from the comics, all remixed into something just a bit different, enough to call its own. They quip, they banter, they argue... Really, it's almost shocking just HOW MUCH dialogue was written and recorded for this game. It's not just cutscenes and specific dialogue scenes, but also during gameplay, both in exploration and combat. While ...

hello everyone my name is peter quill ! and these are my friends: tree, squirrel, girl, idiot. we team up to be the gardeners of the galaxy. the story is really good, like watching a movie. especially the ending scene is so coool! but the gameplay itself isn't that great. the flying sections are hard to pilot, and there are bugs where characters suddenly stop talking midsentence, your teammates suddenly dissapear, or you get stuck on an obstacle and need to reset. one thing really cool is that the game always subverts your expectation. i was laughing and smiling a lot during the ~14h it took to complete the story.
