I really, really enjoy the survival mechanics of this game. The unique item/inventory system (and unique proximity based UI), the basic survival mechanics of hunger/thirst and the added more complex mechanics like exhaustion and mental strain. It has a great crafting system that is complimented by a skill system that is both easy to understand but also has meaningful progression. The wound system provides much more depth than a simple health system. All that in mind, the game has been in early access for over a decade. New content is pushed via the "unstable build" that doesn't even support multiplayer, despite coop and multiplayer being labeled as one of the game's primary features. Build 42 specifically has been stuck in unstable for over 8 months. Players are effectively forced to choose between the outdated stable builds with multiplayer or get the new content without multiplayer. It's contradictory to advertise multiplayer on the Steam page but gate updates behind a branch that s...

THE GOOD: This is the peak of zombie survival. this is the only game that has truly made me fear for my characters life in a zombie apocalypse situation. somehow even with the isometric game design this game feels very immersive, me personally i find this game to grab my attention much akin to cyberpunk 2077 in ray tracing. THE BAD: The indie stone has completely abused the early access tag, this game has been out since 2013 and except for the last 3 years there have been no substantial changes to the game. The indie stone absolutely has the resources on hand to hire more devs to help push out updates and there is STILL NO MULTIPLAYER (in the current build) I waited years for build 42 and almost everything they added with the exception of animals i have either removed or tweaked with mods. on the note of mods this game has taken the Bethesda take on modding. any sort of bugs or personalized content has to be obtain via mods and while i have been modding games for almost a deca...
Look, the game is an absolute blast and it's definitely one of my favorite games and I so badly want to give it a thumbs up HOWEVER it's propped up by the modding community, major updates are so slow that it's falling on the community to keep the game interesting or even fixed in some areas. The vanilla game is fun for the first few runs but after that, most people start adding mods, and for good reason. It launched in early access the year early access itself launched, so it's going on 12 years old now. Build 41 stable launched in December 2021, Build 42 unstable launched December 2024, and there are a planned 48 builds. New builds can improve the game, revert changes that people liked or add changes nobody asked for so it's sort of a toss up if you'll like a certain build or not and it's become more and more obvious TIS don't have a solid and consistent final vision for the game. People theorize that TIS is taking advantage of the early access model to earn more money and milk the sy...
I bought this game back when build 41 had just come out and that was nearly four years ago. do you know what build 41 was referred to as? the animation overhaul. it took eight years after launch for a major animation overhaul. at this point I doubt the game will ever release in a consistent and non-buggy state. maybe if they really speed up development, indie stone could get npcs out by 2035 and make a story by 2045.
I've played 330 hours and still haven't made it past day 75. It's one of the best games ever made, and it gets even better with community content. It's the best part of every zombie game.
Honestly it's just not a fun game. It's well made and does exactly what it is supposed to do - put you in a realisticish situation of a zombie apocalypse. It is hopeless and difficult and yadda yadda yadda. Hardcore gamers will love it. But if you're a casual gamer, have a time constraining job or just use games to escape anxiety rather than produce it this just isn't for you. It's a GOOD game, for what it is. But it is not FUN.
This is a fantastic hardcore survival game for fans of zombie games.
The game may still be in early access but it is still currently be worked on. It has an incredible amount of things and interactions you can have on the world, and has some truly unforgiving survival elements. If you decide to play multiplayer with your friends, you can have fun moments like this one: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3554104813
The Most realistic Zombie game ever made. But It is a little bit difficult.
After finishing the tutorial FINALLY, i can say that this game is really challenging. But super fun, will update when i get through my first 30 days
