It's the little things. It's the way the shopkeeper waves as you approach, seems genuinely thankful whenever you buy something and waves goodbye as you move away. It's the random upgrade box that begs you to pick it. It’s the way that if your character gets a certain movespeed, he’ll start Naruto-running, arms outstretched, seeming like he’s having as much fun as we are. It’s the way you can give hugs for upgrades. It's a game that says: Yes, you can have your blasty roguelitey combo fun in a cheerful environment that has none of the cynicism that pervades the game industry or the world in general. It’s a game that’s just happy to have you here. And that it manages to express this happiness while stabbing you in the face is even more of a feat. It's overall a surprisingly well-executed hidden gem of a game, with a positive emotional core rarely seen in roguelite type games, or even games in general, and it's this core that really distinguishes it from its peers. Top tier, tough-as-nails rogue-like. Wonderful artwork and the combat is superb. You are given multiple options as to how to pursue combat, being able to mix and match your own style. Whether you play the game ranged, using your boomerang or stamina companion to shoot bullets, or going in melee with your sword or pinball roll, the game rewards SPEED and racking up combos. Will be interesting to see how speedrunners handle clearing levels. But be warned, this game has a higher difficulty wall than most rogue-likes/lites. The initial world is ROUGH and does not hold your hand; every piece of progression is earned. In part, the skill ceiling is through the roof and those who put in the time to learn the game's mechanics will be rewarded will one of the most delightful games of the year. Great work, Boon!

Wally and the FANTASTIC PREDATORS is a game where you play as Wally, a predatory fox who is attacking defenseless animals in their own homes and taking all their money. During your decent you also get to experience verbal abuse from various NPCs, but it’s okay because you can hug the backpack guy and that’s fantastic. That’s right, you were the FANTASTIC PREDATOR all along. I think there’s more than 3 levels, but I really can’t be sure as the game is incredibly difficult. Legends speak of legends that manage to beat the Foxlion and get to level 4. From screenshots though there seems to be more content probably only accessible by about five people that made it this far. Despite being so difficult and me bad at videogames, the game is very fun to play. The game is fast paced and handles very smoothly. Did you ever dream of a Nuclear Throne/Touhou mashup? Surely you did, and this is it. By the time this review is written, it has 103 positive and only ONE negative review. [i]What could possibly go wrong?[/i] It's a solid rogue-lite action game with a ton of things done right, starting with the interface, going with the graphics, audio and mechanics, and ending with the... ending? Didn't get to one yet. The game's author is responsive 24/7, so if you report a bug, it won't be there next millisecond. Downside: everyone will know your nickname in the update news, except if you report and throw a ninja smoke bomb BEFORE the next millisecond.

I kinda feel bad for downvoting this game because clearly it was made a lot of love and good intentions... But unfortanetly very inconsistent game design that entirely misses the it's own set core goal: Run variety and the feeling of becoming powerful. Every run feels 90% the same, you will spent most of your time shooting your default arrow gun without any fun changes to that for almost the entire runs. Hell you can end up without a single damage upgrade the entire run rather often which is not as much an issue against normal enemies as they hardly scale hp wise BUT you also don't feel more powerful... Weapons you can find for whatever reason have no default ammo drops and are mostly super basic and very un-synergistic and feel like they were just put in the gam ebecause the dev couldn't manage tier modifiers like isaac has and didn't want to design an actual gun system or more guns like gungeon.... Once in a blue moon some dude drops a game that can only be described as having fucking SOUL poured into it. This is one of those. It's fast paced, fun, smooth, polished, replayable, and full of personality. Omw to git gud and beat the true ending cya nerd Oh, and you CAN hug the backpack guy.

Seems like a really cool and fun game but unfortunately for some baffling reason the devs removed the previously existing way to rebind something as simple as keyboard controls only to replace it with a broken implementation of Steam Input that doesn't actually let you change anything about the keyboard bindings. And I can't play these kinds of games with a controller. So rip me, I guess.

If you play games for achievements, don't even bother buying this game. The hardmode character is in no way fun or challenging to play, the game just throws every curse on you, debuffing you to 4 directions of fire with a very short range, and making every enemy spam a thousand bullets in very open rooms giving you no room to dodge, even if you roll. It asks of you to do it in Hardmode, which means to beat the first stage with a combo of 5+ and without getting hit. Which is near impossible if the room you spawn in is one giant room with 10 dragons spamming your screen with fireballs. And trying to get this ruined this game for me, I'm up for a challenge but this is just IWBTG tier of trash "haha spammy unfair" and simply is not fun, or properly made, at all.

I'll be honest when the creator (boon) put a post on reddit showing off the spider leg mechanics I thought it looked ok but I've grown tired of rougelikes from overplaying them and this one doesn't look like it brings anything to the table. skip to about 4 months later I'm super bored and while browsing steam i see this game and say why not. this game is play how I wanted enter the gungeon to be, more focused on upgrading your gun while still getting exited to find a new one. The main reason I'm writing this review is because you can feel the love put into this game not enough games are put out for as a passion project. Little details that have no impact on gameplay such as that you can hug the shopkeeper or some items are desperately begging to be picked up give this game a feeling that its made for both the creators enjoyment and your own. Historically, I have never been into rogue like games but I decided to try this game out because it looked visually appealing and original with some of its gameplay mechanics. MAN DID I MAKE THE BEST DECISION OF MY LIFE!!!! This game is exciting, fast paced, and feels very rewarding when you try to combo attacks to defeat enemies especially with various upgrades/abilities. Music is great, visuals are gorgeous, and overall design is much better than a lot of bigger name games out there. I really appreciate the fact that the developer of this game is really trying to connect and share his/her passion with the gamer as the game progresses. Definitely will keep playing this more and recommending to friends! Don't hesitate on trying this game out; well worth the money.
