I tried to like this game as I am a big city management game lover and this idea seemed unique, however it is unfortunate that it has frustrating game designs that make it near unplayable. Pros: -Unique idea. I Love the idea of underwater cities and the fantasy side makes it appealing. - Challenges. Throwing an enemy and time table really builds tension while you plan your city out. City builders can have these unique elements like enemies or nature being against them in order to inspire creative building design and becoming invested in your personal city. -Resources. Instead of collecting all the disposable resources first then building more sustainable later the game allows you you hybridize and make habitats for different wildlife while also creating sustainable growth in farms. Meh. - Artwork. A missed opportunity to be honest. The theme of light and dark was somewhat wasted when the blocky darkness looks more like a fog of war than a living menace that threatens your people. Th...

About This Game
Mermaid Colony is an atmospheric survival strategy game. You're granted godlike powers to guide the mermaids in a battle between light and darkness.
- Build a thriving colony on top of a mountain deep in the sea. In order for the mermaids to prosper you have to make use of the rich marine flora and fauna. Mine minerals. Farm seagrass, algae and mussels. Lumber large kelp forests. And hunt sea creatures like jellyfish and giant shrimps. Slowly expand the colony by carefully managing its economy, production chain and distribution network.
- Care for the wellbeing of the mermaids. They all have different professions and needs. Breeding sea turtles and horses as riding animals enables them to get around more easily. Providing them with housing and workplaces as well as food, the right tools and resources is essential for maintaining their health and faith. The spiritual condition of the mermaids is as important as keeping them fed.
- A strange and horrific enemy is infesting the colony. This giant, ancient entity is spreading out and causing sporadic earthquakes. So be diligent in your maintance of all buildings. Guard your borders against the grim monsters emerging from dark, tumorous growths. The enemy is shrouding everything into darkness and is extinguishing all life.
- A sea god grants you divine powers. You gain more abilities with increasing population and faith. Priestesses will help you to keep up morale by performing singing and dancing rituals. The swift use of magic spells allows you to overcome threatening situations. You can quickly react to attacks, directly shape surroundings and drastically improve conditions for the mermaids. Gain enough power and you'll be able to force the dark horrors finally back.

First impressions are good. A charming, sedate little colony-builder with simple production chains. The atmosphere is deeply relaxing, with ominous little burbles and clicking noises happening regularly to remind you of your purpose on the throne. No tutorial to speak of, but just about everything has a ? icon that pops up an infobox with helpful descriptions. No problems launching or instability so far for me, but a non-english language review says they had problems. The developer posted a fix for them, so check that out if you're having issues. I'll keep playing, but I wanted to get out my at least a quick impression since there's almost no reviews for this game so far. Will edit review if opinion changes. Downsides I've noticed so far: No way to pause while playing -- have to save & quit to menu Using 'alt-tab' to switch windows locks up the 'w' and 's' camera controls
I do like a large part of the game, and didn't expect much with the price. However, the bugs have made me rage quit. In one map my builder is stuck trying to repair a destroyed building that I removed the ruins of. And in multiple games my huntresses have gotten stuck in one spot. I can get past the lack of direction and restarting multiple times when trying to learn what you need to start with and survive. But with how slow the game pace is, having put multiple hours into a game to have your defense/food support just give up on life and slowly starve to death is annoying and cripples the growing colony. And its very slow, and if you have a healer is slows down killing off the bugged characters even more. Wouldn't recommend buying until they get rid of the bugs.
It was a really unique take on City Building/Management genres but it fails disappointingly. The game hasn't received an update, there's still a problem with movement and pathing. Instead of optimizing since Early Access, it was left in the state as it is now. Held onto the game for a while until it was released but it doesn't seem like its going to get fixed anytime soon. So far it works like an idler/clicker game. Waste of potential, its quite expensive to compared to alternatives and the pathing issue is a known fact and it won't change it seems.
Poorly designed and explained. Very disappointing outcome for an exciting idea.
DO NOT BUY. Broken and abandoned game. Mermaids get stuck in-place right and left. Developer abandoned this game.
Movement is way too slow, graphics too similar. Headache within 10 min.
The concept is interesting, but the actual gameplay is as murky as the waters themselves. You have a lot of mermaids that apparently you have to give individual tasks to over and over to get them to work, and the tasks are creating items within a large production chain where it's not clear what you want, or why, or how you set it up. Also, there's an attack every five minutes or so, so you better get right on telling your mermaids what to do right away! This game has a tutorial which is a pop-up screen that tells you things, but it doesn't do it in a logical, building progress - it's as if someone cut a rulebook into paragraphs and reads you a random paragraph every two minutes. Build houses! No, you can't build there, and it won't tell you why. But it will now tell you that you need a Gem Cutter to cut your gems. Are you producing gems to be cut? Do you need to? Do you know how? Do you know why you need gems? The UI is completely unclear on it, and the tutorial blurb is unhelpful. ...
So far game is nice. I waited a bit for this one since I like colony builders. I will go more into it but if u like this type of game I recommend.
Buggy and probably abandoned. Dont buy unless on discount, and probably not even then. There are better options
