About This Game

SLAYERS FOR HIRE® is a free-to-play indie platform fighter with an emphasis on speed, precision, and creative characters.

This is a fighting game that rewards creativity more than any other. Whether you're goofing off with friends or pushing your skills to the limit, you can expect an adrenaline-filled experience every time you play. Play online (with rollback netcode!) with up to 16 players or locally versus up to 6 players or AI.

Our goal with SLAYERS is to make a game that feels like a step forward for the genre. A game that feels at once familiar, yet novel.

EARLY ACCESS FEATURES:

 • Three playable characters: Slugger, Artist, & Spy (with more hot on their heels) - Whether you enjoy rushdown or a more methodical style of play, each character is designed to give players the tools to approach fights any way you like. May creativity be your only limiter!
 • Online play with rollback netcode - No longer do you need a perfect internet connection to have a smooth online experience!
 • Fight against our AI - Don't feel like hopping online? Test your mettle versus our computer players.
 • Unique stages & game modes - Ever wonder what battle royale would look like in a platform fighter? Grab 15 friends and try it out for yourself in our battle royale map. Or give our arena stages a try. It's a cage match!
 • Unique gameplay mechanics - We focused on creating gameplay mechanics that either open up new tools for players to explore (Focus Attacks, Airdash Cancels) or solve longstanding issues in platform fighters (Combo Gravity).
 • Controller & keyboard support - Currently you can play on Xbox, PlayStation, and GameCube controllers. You can also reconfigure and save your controls if you don't like our defaults. If you prefer tap jump on, that's your call. No hard feelings.
 • Low computer requirements - Runs on toasters! Well, not literal toasters...

PLANNED FEATURES:

 • Story mode - Does a local/online coop metroidvania mode sound as good to you as it does to us? Sure hope so, because this is at the top of our list for a reason!
 • More characters! - Other than the six we've already revealed, we've already got concept art for 10 more characters and ideas for many more! Basically, we want to pump out content for this game as long as we're able to!
 • Items - We've got a long list of items we want to put into the game, sourced both internally and from community members. We have one implemented already, which lets you have !! 𝑰𝑵𝑭𝑰𝑵𝑰𝑻𝑬 𝑨𝑰𝑹𝑫𝑨𝑺𝑯𝑬𝑺 !!
 • Awesome training mode & tutorial - We have a bare bones training arena right now, but the plan is to develop a comprehensive in-game tutorial and training tools.
 • Spectator mode & replays - Great for learning and relaxing.
 • In-game tournaments - Robots are going to put tournament organizers out of business one day.
 • Sponsored seasonal leagues & compendiums - Compendiums are the future! Everybody wins when they're set up well.
 • Minigames - There are so many offshoot game modes we want to try, both big and small. For some this is a nice distraction, for others I bet this becomes the main thing they like about the game.
 • Mod support - We're big fans of games with strong mod support, so obviously we want to set up mod support for our game as well.
 • Custom stages - We'd also love to make a system for rating them in-game and rewarding players who make fantastic stages.
 • Cool cosmetics - Always fun to see characters reimagined, and also fun to be able to express yourself in-game.
 • ...and much more!
As you can see, there are a ton of features we want to add. Simply put: We want to support this game with content for as long as we can possibly sustain. The community that has supported us so far has been amazing, and we can't wait to continue giving back for years to come. Thank you everyone!!

This game has a really unique philosophy related to projectiles. They persist and have all different kinds of interactions with your character to explore. For the money, you get a quality online lobby system and two characters with very fun and distinct mechanics to fool around with. PLUS you get to support an indie dev. P.S. WAY BETTER THAN ICONS.

There isn't much yet and it's very rough around the edges. It's very much a low budget indie game. But it shines in the most important aspect - the gameplay. It feels incredibly smooth, it is accessible for newer players without compromising the learning effect. This game is an absolute blast to play with friends, and the netcode allows almost seamless online matches. The developers are also very active within the community and take feedback seriously. It has already come very far since the Alpha and Beta builds. If you enjoy Smash Brothers casually and want to try out something new to play with friends, buy this game. If you enjoy Platform Fighters competitively and want to expand your horizons on what is possible within the genre, buy this game. If you want to support a small indie dev team that puts all their effort into their game, buy this game. If someone you know tells you to buy this game, buy this game!

We need more solid platform fighters like this. Feels crisp, netplay is good too. And I love the creative movesets. I don't like, however, the lack of full movesets for each character. The devs claim it's to avoid having useless moves, but if you're played Melee or any game like it enough, you'd know that even trash moves have their place sometimes, and allow for even more creativity. Having multiple inputs perform the same attack also feels unintuitive and even a bit confusing. I think it's a way for them to get out of extra animating, which I can't blame them for, but I'm still not a fan of the decision and think it's antithetical to the creative and expressive nature of the genre. This used to be a positive review until I tried playing it again and the aforementioned decision to neuter movesets felt even worse than before. That said, we still need more good platform fighters so I still support it and hope Slayers succeeds, but I don't see that happening without some changes.

Slayers for Hire has a lot of potential for growth, and even in this early alpha it's already a blast to play with friends. Its characters and gameplay feel unique next to other platform fighters like Smash, Rivals, and Slap City. Definitely keep your eye on this game!

This game has a lot of potential, however, don't buy expecting to be able to play even close to a finished game. If you are interested in the game and believe in what the devs are trying to do then buy the game to support them.

Game seems fun but can in no way recommend, 90% of my in game time has been sitting on a matchmaking screen waiting. Hopefully tried it again after the spy update and got nothing but crickets. I shouldn't need to go to a discord to find someone to play against in 2020 with so many other better, more alive platform fighters on the market. If the way the devs intend to hook in new players is new shiny gold skins for the 3 character roster then i have to say i regret buying. Should have seen the red flags when the bots in training mode couldn't even be asked to get up after the'd been knocked down, clearly they knew something I didn't. TLDR : Strongly suggest you stay clear of this one. Even for early access there's a crumb of content here and the playerbase reflects that.

Ive played alot of platform fighters, from Project M to Brawlhalla to Rivals, not to mention vanilla Melee. This is game has some really solid movement mechanics, as well as great sound design (and its still early access so these things will only get better too. Pros - Movement feels great, if you are a melee purist of course you will feel weird but if you've played rivals or PM you should be fine cons - only two characters but it seems like that roster will have at least 4 characters before the end of summer

This game only has up to go! And I mean that in a good way. As time goes on and more people start playing, matches will be easier to find, and more content will be released. With at least 6 more characters on the way and who knows how many stages, this game is in it's baby stages, and boy is it a beautiful baby. I highly recommend buying in now as the devs are wonderful about listening to the community and how they can best meet expectations from all sides. This game will thrive off of its community for which I see a very bright future for.
