About This Game

In the great war between the gods, will you wield the chains of destiny, or shatter them forever?

Exile of the Gods is a 460,000 word interactive epic fantasy novel by Jonathan Valuckas, where your choices control the story. It's entirely text-based—without graphics or sound effects—and fueled by the vast, unstoppable power of your imagination.

Our story begins twenty years after the action of the first game, 2015's Champion of the Gods. Which ending did you get? Start this game as the Champion, a warrior born to serve the gods, and follow the holy destiny the Weavers have crafted for you. Or start this game as the Exile, enemy of the gods, and forge a new life for yourself in the faraway land of Khovros--where mortals are free to choose their own fates.

Champion and Exile alike must unravel a deadly conspiracy, and confront the brewing war upon their gods. Will you vanquish this invading force, or use its power to free your realm from its ruthless creators forever? Take revenge on the gods who exiled you, or steal this chance to prove your worth to the pantheon, and seize your destiny of glory?

The gods made you what you are. Now, you will show them what you are made of.

Le sigh... to think I wasted £3.63 on this nonsense; that's two & a half hours of my life I'll never get back. A word of warning to those thinking of playing this - the choices you make, whilst they may seem sensible at the time, can lead to outcomes VERY contrary to what you were hoping for... indeed, to reach a certain resolution, it may actually be in your best interests to choose the OPPOSITE of what you're really thinking. More than that, I can't really say without including major spoilers... however, I will say this much: Honesty is NOT always the best policy. Good luck. Edit: So. against my better judgement; or, perhaps simply because I wanted to at least TRY to get my money's worth out of this debacle, I forced myself to endure a second playthrough... And, while my overall feelings about the game remain unchanged, I find I can now be a bit more specific about just what my main issues were - as ever, I will try to avoid spoilers where possible. Note, this is less of a comp...

I have to say Champion of the Gods is my favourite novel and I kind of always dreamed of what happened in the future, I became King (depending on my choices), now what? I stagnate or I continue exploring and having adventures? Exile of the Gods is the answer to that question, a sequel and you can also export your previous save files which is wonderful, continuing a story is always good and immersive. I like the thought of a New World with New Gods ... but I won't say much more than that, purchase the game its worth it.

I could not be happier that I made this purchase. 4 euro for this masterpiece? No way! I just finished my first ending and after two hours of reading.... I can say that my eyes are melting from the intense staring at my monitor. The story got me on the edge of my seat! If you're into DnD, tabletop games or Medieval Fantasy games, THIS IS FOR YOU. It's like reading a book that you are a part of. TWO DAMN HOURS FOR ONE ENDING??? I AM SO HAPPY I GOT THIS

I loved the first game and as soon as I found out there was a sequel, I bought it and was not disappointed. I liked having the option to export files from the prequel and continue with my characters.

As one of the first books from CoG for me, I played "Champion of the Gods" a forever ago (back when there were only 2 gender and 3 sexuality options for the MC, that's how long ago that was!). Liked it, despite it's quirks, a lot (I used to like Greek mythology as a child), had an established god-loving hero for my personal canon, gave the 1st book a replay for a save, so when this came out, I'd already freshened up on how the author's logic and the rules of the setting work, so a lot of the things that other players complained about, I wasn't surprised (or upset) by. That out of the way, the plot of this one was unexpected, but I ended up liking the adventure. It was interesting to see how rules that gods from a different pantheon impose in their realm work. The new companion (and potential love interest) was mildly annoying, mostly due to our different worldview, but we got along fine. I WAS, however, very upset that the MC got separated from their love from the 1st book for the dura...

What I least liked about it is that learning magic immediately sets you to rebelling against the gods. If the gods are going to keep sending me to these far-off lands to do their errands, they should at least allow me to learn how to teleport. That or have their pet messenger bird fly me places. That said, killing cultists abroad was good fun for my forty year-old king.

Even better than the first one. Big incentive to replay and try different paths. A true Greek Tragedy. EDIT: (implied spoilers) I replayed it, knowing now how things will unfold, I went for a less tragic outcome and am pleased to report that it exists! I'm glad though, that my first run ended in tragedy, for it gave me a huge incentive to replay. The game's been well worth it's money.

Definitely worth your time if you're into choose your own adventure stories. I feel for the most complete experience you can transfer a save from the original Champion of the Gods into this new episode of the story and my version
(where I secretly betrayed the gods in the first episode to weaken them, and then suddenly betrayed them at their weakest hour. I felt like a supervillain waiting years for that moment)
has definitely been one of my favorite experiences playing a choice based game. The amount of variety and personality you can give your protagonist is astoundingly impressive. I made them a sly, yet noble villain by the end of my first playthrough and it was awesome.
