Great game, with amusing dialogue and reminiscent of old rpgs like pokemon. The story isn't very long, but it's well written, side characters are creative and thought out, and the battle style is engaging. I'd recommend it to anyone looking to binge through a game on a weekend :D (or you could play it slower, but that's not my style)

This game has such a great art style and music. I love the little pixel art characters. The music had me bobbing my head along as I played. lol. The style of the game and turn-based battles remind me of the trainer battles in Pokemon, which was the very first video game I played and loved. There's a lot of programmer/web dev humor in the game, and I think anyone who has been in the tech industry will really resonate with it (especially the big, evil, data stealing company, lol) . If you enjoy RPGs and the old Zelda and Pokemon games, I think you'll really enjoy this game. I felt a lot of nostalgia playing this game and it put a pretty big smile on my face.
I came across this game because I was listening to the Syntax Podcast and heard that this game was made entirely in React and web technology. That's pretty awesome! The dev is also an avid blogger on Codepen and I highly recommend reading his articles. Haven't played the game much yet but it looked funny, especially for fellow devs. Kudos!
There's a lot to recommend about Danger Crew. The pixel-art is clean, functional and pleasing & the graphical style is a nostalgic homage to quirky Super Nintendo RPGs like Earthbound & Robotrek. The music is catchy, though not terribly memorable (I thought the Mega-Drive chip tune after the twist was particularly good). Also, I swear these guys must be from the St Louis area—there are way too many similarities to the suburbs of Clayton to be a coincidence. The gameplay is excellent—for a novice pair of game-makers, Danger Crew is a lot of fun to play. The turn-based battle system offers quite a few options and iterations without ever feeling overwhelming. The game is also challenging to play. While not the hardest game I've ever played, I had to strategize and react to each opponent; none of the battles I encountered ever felt stale. It isn't easy to make a turn-based RPG feel fresh almost every battle. Returning to the comparisons with Earthbound and Robotrek: Danger Crew's sto...
A lightweight RPG with a humorous take on being a software developer. The dialog is packed full of witty sarcasm, and the story is very well-paced. There is virtually no 'grinding XP', just a seamless transition from area to area. The combat system is decently complex, allowing you to choose from several viable setups. Overall, Danger Crew is is an enjoyable game, and stands out from other RPG titles. I appreciate the level of polish that went into this release.
What a charming game! For anyone who is a fan of classic RPGs, this brought me right back to my days playing Earthbound and Chrono Trigger. I found the design to be slick and accessible, and the combat/upgrade system to be pretty engrossing. Overall the game has a great sense of humor that should appeal to anyone, especially those of us who appreciate the foibles of tech startup and programming culture. Very much recommended!
Great game! Very relatable as a developer
Somewhat fun game if you are a programmer. I will admit it started to drag on at the end, but I was able to complete the game and played for 7 hours. The story was really far fetched but it was supposed to be. I thought the battles were a little too easy and much of the scripts you have are never even needed. I would have liked to see more bosses in the game as well as some more difficult battles.
So far Danger Crew has been a real joy to play. The art style, music, and gameplay are woven together to create a welcoming experience reminiscent of the classic games many of us grew up with. The original MIDI-style music is a satisfying complement to the retro graphics. I find myself humming the various tunes and getting pumped up by the battle music, much like I did while playing Pokemon on Gameboy back in the day. The gameplay is a mix of progressing through a campaign storyline, doing side missions, and battling other web developers as you hone your skills. I love the way the battle scripts embody the spirit of the actual coding function (e.g., loops do multiple attacks), and somehow come together to make a cohesive battle system. The theme is cleverly done and there’s a lot to appreciate if you are familiar with programming, but the game would be quite enjoyable to those without a technical background as well. My favorite part of Danger Crew, though, is the humorous writing an...
Danger Crew is an adventure style game with a lot of promise. The game is very engaging and has many real-world elements for those who might recognize them, or care to do a simple google search. The game is very engaging and seems to have much more coming down the pipeline. I would highly recommend this game to anyone considering a new adventure. Don't just take my word for it, try it for yourself!
