About This Game

We currently don't recommend the Vive Wands as input

We temporarily removed the Vive wands as an officially supported input system as we don't feel that the current state of the locomotion system delivers a good enough experience. We still support the platform of course and improve it steadily with coming updates, but we currently can't recommend it as a good input device due to the limitations of the input controls (lack of thumbsticks).

H.O.L.O. Humanoid. Operated. Living. Organism.

HOLOCEPTION introduces a unique way to interact in VR. This game explores the extraordinary capabilities of the brain to project itself into another entity and still manages to feel fully immersed, but it will require some time to get used to the locomotion system and the controls.

Holoception is a Cartoonish physics based action combat arena fighter. Play in 3rd and 1st person. The hero mirrors your head and hand movements, so fight with style. Unlock weapons, double jump, attack in slow motion, grab the gravity gloves or squeeze the rubber ducky. It's all up to you.

Learn new ways to defeat your enemies the more you progress in levels.
Every time you play, the game feels different due to the physics-based combat!

“They threw John Wick, The Matrix and Hitman into a VR blender”
(Rendered Reality)

“Holoception has actually done something magical… This kind of innovation is exactly what VR needs!!”
(Stangerism)

Features

  • Incarnation System: The player incarnates and controls a small character in front of him. Using state-of-the-art IK techniques, the head and hands positions are accurately reproducing the posture of the player but in 3rd person perspective.
  • Interaction: Very immersive and intuitive interaction system to grab and equip anything you need very easily.
  • Flexible Camera System: Fully control the camera in real-time to choose the best angle to enjoy every moment of the game! You can manually rotate, snap and zoom the camera. Liberty to choose a 1:1 scale or to see the game as a tiny puppet world from a god's view.
  • Advanced Physics: The game is fully physics-based and allows very realistic interactions and combat. Player and enemies fully use IK and ragdolls for maximal immersion!
You can grab anything you want including enemies themselves and throw them around or use them as weapons on other enemies.
  • Slow Motion: Manually trigger slow motion at your will to get a huge advantage over your enemies, block their attack and avoid their bullets!
  • Weapons and Upgrades: A lot of weapons and a progression system with new unlockable upgrades and abilities.

*plays 20 minutes, leaves negative review* Be prepared for some initial negative reactions as the mechanics definitely have a learning curve and initially feel a bit unintuitive. Holoception uses a totally unique/new control scheme, of which I’m a little over an hour in and really starting to get a hang of. Overall, after getting a hold of the mechanics a bit, the gameplay just feels downright satisfying. Landing a well timed swing feels right, and the physics and rag dolls allow for some hilarious moments. There are a lot of items to unlock and the progression system has felt decent so far. There’s definitely things that need work, but the bones of the game are super promising. Found myself breaking quite the sweat, the game’s definitely akin to a gorn or blade and sorcery. For feedback.. - first person mode controls are wonky... The control scheme is the same as 3rd person which has you turning using the stick and not your body. From a first person pov, this is nauseas ...

The concept is great, but the execution still has a way to go. (Bear in mind that this is a first impression review after about 20 minutes or so, but read on for why I didn't play longer.) First off, let's talk controls. Third person mode has you controlling a stick figure from on high. His hands do what yours do, but you still need to use the thumbstick to control moving and turning. This can make it difficult to internalize how do make him interact with stuff when your hands are stretched out in a different direction, feeling around almost blindly until the grab indicator finally pops up on what you're trying to grab (which is especially fun when it's surrounded by other objects you don't want). First person mode feels more natural for people who are used to first person VR games, except the stick figure still retains some third person states like facing direction. This means that even though you are looking one way, the stick figure himself might be facing another direction, so p...

YES PLEASE !! the controls are little clunky and grabbing and throwing enemies is not as easy as I imagined due to grabbing points not always showing up but it looks like great fun. Got my head dizzy from the constant rotation, so time for break and I will update this review later on.

Love this game and all it's potential. The gameplay makes you feel super badass once you get used to the 3rd and 1st person controls. The slow motion is super cool and the progression feels very rewarding. Many matrix moments in slow motion. ALSO the best part is the developers are fricken awesome and reply to all your questions and feedback on their discord. A+ Can't wait to see what else they update this game with. They also released a day one patch that improved the 1st person locomotion so they are on top of things development-wise. 9/10 (always room to improve in early access)

The concept is cool and promising, but the current state is far away from enjoyable, especially the controls are indescribably weird. I'll check back in a few months or so but my abandonware-senses are tinglin strong with this one. Please prove me wrong.

im sorry, the idea is great, it looks great in the video, HOWEVER, its so goddamn nausiating, not only that, its impossible grabbing anything, cause you have no f*cking idea what you're doing. its like some sort of surrealistic dream, or rather nightmare. and then we have playing in 1st person, its a goddamn unacceptable f*cking nightmare. and almost everyone is gonna play in 1st person, CAUSE YOU CANT PLAY THE F*CKING GAME IN 3RD PERSON. it feels like you're sharing a brain with another person, that wants to do something else entirely, WICH NEEDLESS TO SAY, IS PRETTY F*CKING OFF PUTTING, AND THEN THE WALLS START FLASHING, AND YOU'RE CHARACTER STARTS MOONWALKING SIDEWAYS OFF THE MAP, AND YOU'RE LEFT TO WONDER "what the f*ck just happened" BEFORE YOU REALISE, THAT YOUR ARMS ARE SHORTER INGAME, THAN THEY ARE IN REAL LIFE SO YOU CANT REACH ANYTHING, AND WHEN YOU THEN TRY STEPPING CLOSER, YOUR SCREEN JUST GOES BLACK, BECAUSE YOU ARENT IN THE CENTER OF YOUR PLAY AREA, DID THESE PEOPLE NOT P...
