I really enjoy randomly skipping 1/4 o my turns for no reason while my enemies attack 3 times in a row. Fantastic game design

About This Game
This is a unique single-player game with RPG elements, extensive usage of attribute and skill checks, a turn-based combat system involving many variables (including morale, reach, confined space and high ground) and a touch of roguelike features. Among them, permadeath. If you are unfamiliar with the term, it means you'll have to start over if your character dies; but don't worry: the game is designed to be replayable and you'll see only a fraction of it in each run. Also, you'll be able to spend points on your next legionary based on how well your most successful characters performed.
Try the demo
This game is unlike most RPGs. Your character won't be successful at everything. Challenges should be picked carefully based on your legionary's strengths and weaknesses. In general, the game is not designed to put you in a situation where the odds are against you unless you willingly step into it. At times, you may fail to perform a task and take a mild penalty in Morale and/or Opinions (a measure of your relationships with relevant entities within the game, like your superiors and your fellow soldiers). Don't get discouraged when this happens, it is nothing more than a minor setback you can easily recover from. Most of all, I strongly recommend that you try the demo before you buy this game. It's here on Steam and it's free, there's no better way to make sure that A Legionary's Life suits your taste. The demo contains the first 3 parts out of 11.

User Reviews
So after 10 hours, I have only reached the 1st rank on one save, but its so worth it. The longer you play them more you learn which choice to pick next time. 10 out of 10. 100 percent recommend.
A great text adventure with a lot of replayability. I like the progression system that it gives so you get more points to improve your next character based on your previous ones.
I wish there was a way to give a game a maybe on recommendation. Core gameplay is fun but the rng is literally some of the worst I've experienced in a game, and the amount of time you would have to sink in to this game to get meaningful upgrades is kind of poorly designed unless you min max every run and get superb luck to boot. A 50% chance to hit feels more like a 25%, and with how much stance decay you get on a miss, you're essentially doubly punished for pressing the attack. Another thing that bugs me is that an enemy gets to decide its action after you have either failed or succeeded your own, so if you successfully feint and lower their stance, they might choose to recover, despite them starting the round at 100 percent stance, but it doesn't work in the opposite direction for you, so enemies will always have the benefit of reacting optimally and you have to rely on the already poor rng system for them to fail. All in all, could be a great game if it weren't for some badly implem...
Excellent rogue like with minimalist graphics but deep and engaging plot and game play. Live the life of a Roman soldier and try to move up through the ranks. There are many choices which will impact your play through and when you eventually die you will earn points toward improving the stats and gear for your next character! The hardest part of a Legionary's Life is turning it off. This game is addictive!
in loving memory of Jarhead. Crushed every pike wall he came across, and defeated countless in single combat.
It is very addictive and enjoyable to play but it crashes constantly
A great game with massive replayability
Masterpiece.
