✦ INTRODUCTION

Oh, my dear. Let’s sit down together and talk about The Suicide of Rachel Foster. It’s a game that, on the surface, promises a haunting tale of mystery and loss, set in the eerie isolation of a snowbound hotel. But as we peel back the layers, we find a narrative that stumbles when it comes to handling its delicate themes with the care they deserve. The story follows Nicole, a young woman returning to her family’s hotel to settle affairs after her father’s death. There, she uncovers unsettling truths about her family’s past and the tragic fate of Rachel Foster. The Timberline Hotel is atmospheric, a silent witness to the unfolding drama. And yet, despite the chilling backdrop, the game falters in its portrayal of the very tragedy it seeks to explore.

✦ RACHEL'S ABSENCE

I keep thinking about Rachel. She is placed at the centre, and yet, somehow, you never really hear her speak for herself. Yo...

LEWIS & CLARK COUNTY, MONTANA, US
Ten years ago, teenager Nicole and her mother left the family hotel after discovering her father Leonard's affair with, and pregnancy of Rachel, a girl her own age who eventually committed suicide.
Now that both of her parents have passed, Nicole hopes to fulfill her mother’s last will to sell the hotel and make amends to Rachel's relatives. With the will and determination to put that chapter behind her, she returns to the hotel with the family’s lawyer to audit the decaying structure.
As the weather unexpectedly turns for the worst, Nicole has no way to leave the large mountain lodge, and finds support in Irving, a young FEMA agent, using one of the first radio telephones ever built.
With his help, Nicole starts to investigate a mystery far deeper than what people in the valley thought. A story of love and death, where melancholy and nostalgia melt into a thrilling ghost tale.

Just a plain bad walking sim with not much game in it. I couldn't care less about this one. I wasn't grossed out by the theme also, I just couldn't get into it and was waiting for it to be over. I like firewatch, i love painscreek killings but I really disliked this one. For the 1 something euro I paid for it, cool but I would never buy it for full price
It was all about a paedo ?!?! I should have read the comments before playing this game ....
Really want more of games like this. It wasn't that good but I liked it anyway
YIKES
Incredibly infuriating, and not even the same way majority of others found the game upsetting. I personally believe the creators were trying to pull a Lolita-like move, where they were giving us perspectives of others aside from Rachel's, as a way to show us how these horrible beings viewed and justified their own actions. Instead of giving us Rachels' POV, where we would've seen more of the manipulation and disgusting behavior being forced upon her. Kinda an unreliable narrator thing. But the execution just did not make the mark, therefore giving the impression of romanticizing pedophilia to players. The part that upsets me is the story. There are just so many plotholes, and so many things that just don't make any sense. Was there something supernatural supposed to be taking place or was there not? They give you these hints that there may be some haunting of Rachel's spirit but then they would pull out of that and make it more of a real-life mystery. The part that was most frustrating...
This game is a wonderful piece of storytelling through games, and a great example of games as art. While the gameplay may be lacking somewhat, the story and acting are compelling in their own right and will have you wondering what comes next. It is also a shorter game, making it a much more consumable story to take in. Highly recommend.
got it when it was free and really interesting story 10/10 would recommend. it reminds me of what remains of edith finch in a way. its a big walking sim game but really good story telling
