About This Game

The Red Lantern is a narrative, dog-sledding game about survival.

You play as the Musher as she makes the rash decision to start a new life in Alaska. Along with her best friend Chomper, she assembles a dog sledding team and embarks on a journey to find her new home. Unfortunately, she isn’t quite prepared for this adventure. She must learn to adapt so she can take care of herself and her dogs as they try to find their way through the wilderness.

 • Choose the 4 dogs that will complete your team, each with their own unique personalities and stories to discover.
 • Learn from your failures and become better prepared for your journey.
 • Explore the wilderness of Alaska as you choose how to approach the various wildlife you’ll encounter.
 • Take care of your dogs by hunting to collect meat, caring for them at camp, and making sure to rest.
 • Unlock upgrades to your sled and find tools that will help you and your team on your journey.
 • Continue to explore and train your dogs after you reach the cabin. And adopt your remaining dogs!
 • Relax with Zen Mode (unlocked at the cabin) where you can sit back and let the dogs run.

I had wanted this game since around the time it first came out. It took me forever (four years) to finally bite the bullet and the get it. I'm glad i did. I'm gonna get oddly sentimental here, so hang on. Back when I first fell in love with this game, I was honestly a bit obsessed. Despite not playing it for myself (I didn't have the greatest computer at the time), I would watch and re-watch any videos on it I could find. So when I opened up the game myself for the first time, it felt surreal. I realized at some point during my first play-through that I have changed a LOT in those four years. Yet some things still stuck and held true - like my love for this game. When I finally reached the cabin for the first time, I actually started crying a bit. It was like I had gotten to reunite with my past self, if even for a moment. I know that probably sounds odd, especially for a game that's only 4 years old, but still. It means a lot to me. Hell, I don't even use the same name anymore, I don'...

Such a cute game! It really makes you think lol. I love trying to solve all the puppies stories, and just that keeps me hooked for a while. Great game!

Very fun, the visuals are great and the dogs' little stories were very fun to run through even on a second save. I will say, apparently the journal is broken -- some encounters don't happen no matter what, different ones that do appear won't trigger the journal entry, etc. -- so the final achievement is impossible to get except by third-party software. If achievement hunting is something important to you, that might be a deal breaker. Otherwise, it was very fun.

One day when I was randomly scrolling through Steam, I noticed "The Red Lantern" and it looked kind of cute. Reviews were mixed, and the game was cheap enough to buy at that moment, so I got it. Well... I couldn't play, because all I see is a black screen. I checked some fixes from Steam forums, including the fixes from the devs, but none of them helped me, just like it didn't help some other people. So I am afraid I won't be able to give an honest answer about "The Red Lantern" being at least serviceable or not, because you have to at least function and work in the first place, so I tried to give it a shot. That didn't work out, so I will go for the second option and recommend everyone to stay away from "The Red Lantern" because it looks abandoned. Well, unless we get a great patch, right?

Fun little game. Simple and not as expected but fun nonetheless, up until you've completed all the dog's story lines at least. After that, getting every achievement is fucking mind-numbing. An endless loop of pressing the same button an sitting through the same cutscenes over and over until you get the one you need via pure rng.
