I haven't gotten beyond the first planet yet, but I've been taking my time and exploring as much as possible and I'm just about to move on to the next planet. I only say this to echo that the map is deceptively small looking compared to the amount of time you'll spend exploring it. But in the mean time, I wanted to get a review in, because I really enjoy this game despite a couple negatives. It feels similar to Steamworld Dig 1 & 2, but with more features and goals. The puzzles have been fun, but not too difficult so far. Combat isn't too challenging on Normal difficulty. Most monsters are more of a nuisance to swat down while digging further. It took me a while to get comfortable with the game, but I blame that on using a controller instead of keyboard and mouse. As far as those negatives, the main one is how awkward using a controller feels. I've been trying to adapt but I think there's too many things to control with just a controller. You have to remember combos in order to acc...

About the Game
Something Ate My Alien is a 2D, digging and puzzle platformer game where you take the role of the AI Antalasia, and control your little Alien blobs to explore the planets you visit! Your task is to dig through the ground of the different worlds and find all the items required by the pirate that is hijacking you. During the adventure on each planet you have to battle environmental dangers, fight off wildlife, solve secret puzzle chambers, and all this while surviving on a depleting oxygen supply and a threat far scarier than the local wildlife.Key Features
- Dig through the depths of 4 different planets and collect as much loot as possible.
- Solve puzzle chambers by pushing and pulling blocks to reveal secret treasures.
- Survive by finding oxygen recharge stations and dodging environmental obstacles.
- Fight the hostile flora and fauna with your choice of 6 specialized weapons.
- Upgrade and build your equipment by collecting items and energy.
- Find hidden relics and collect achievements.
- Engage in bigger battles with the scary huge threats guarding the hidden secrets.
DIG
Guide the Aliens to find all the resources the pirate demands, and any additional items you find you can use to build upgrades. Some planets are rich in gems, others in specific minerals, fossils, artefacts or gases. Collect as much as you can!SOLVE PUZZLES
Each planet has an array of puzzle chambers that once solved reveals hidden treasures. Pull and push the blocks into the correct positions to get the tokens containing parts of the code you need to unlock new places and move your adventure forward.SURVIVE
Your Aliens need to survive in the perilous environments while digging and exploring. Find oxygen recharge stations and beware of pools of corrosive, super heated or poisonous substances, falling rocks, slippery ice, toxic gases and open flames.FIGHT
There are 6 unique weapons all with different mechanics to defend yourself against the abundant flora and fauna. Look out for charging animals, flying creatures, armoured beasts and be careful walking underneath hanging fungi.UPGRADE
Use the items the pirate doesn't want to build new upgrades for the Aliens. What should you pick? Faster mining? Better guns? Bigger oxygen tanks? Longer lasting jet packs? Or perhaps something else to aid your Aliens while exploring the caves?THE BIGGER THREAT
The same alien race that left behind a maze of locked teleporters and the hidden codes to unlock them also left behind something very dangerous to guard it all, a fail safe. This looming threat is continuous and the more chests you unlock, the more unsettling the threat becomes...Screenshots

Substantially padded; minimal content. I've fully cleared two levels so far and I'm pretty sure the only really new stuff I'm going to see in the future is different sprites and different music tracks. This game has nice music and art, the controls work, and the idea is basically sound, but there's just not much to it. You've got four basically identical levels with mildly distinct but not particularly interesting enemies that aren't really the point anyway. On each level, you mine out a huge number of collectibles and get some more from ten block puzzles (which are decent, but make up a minority of the playing time), then you fight essentially the same boss. You'll have gotten all the upgrades you possibly can long before you finish the level, with everything else locked to future planets. The upgrades are: protection from a water hazard (x3), upgrades to your health (x4), time (x4) and float (x3) meters, upgrades to backpack size (x4), reduction in falling damage (x1), a reduced ch...
Well done guys, it's a fantastic game, great concept, gorgeous graphics so much to see and do as you work your way around. I'm not a gamer and that was proven in the first 5 minutes when my poor little alien ran out of air because I was so slow getting to grips with the controls but great fun and I managed to convince another alien to help me out so I could carry on 😂😂👽. It's on my desktop and I'm sure I will spend many hours trying to get better and not kill my poor little friends too quickly!
Totally addictive, beautifully made digging & puzzle game! If you like digging games, you will love SAMA! I can see myself playing this for hours, completely losing track of time. Stunning worlds, challenging puzzles, and the cute little alien makes me not want to stop - not to mention trying to clear all the blocks and collect everything from each planet! Enjoying it a lot! 5/5
this is a good game i think the puzzle rooms are very good
Very fun game. I have not gotten past my first planet and was not sure at first how much I was going to enjoy it but now that I have played for awhile I am hooked. This game does not have the negative of constantly having to consult a wiki or forum to figure out how to play. It is pretty straightforward.
Fun at first, this game started feeling a little repetitive and frustrating by the 3rd planet. Even on normal difficulty I seemed to be constantly bombarded by enemies when all I wanted was to finally find the way to the next section / puzzle. I mostly enjoyed the puzzles but I finally got stuck on one only to find there are no proper walkthroughs yet. There are some gameplay videos out there but you'd have to just hope they happen to do the puzzle you need help on. I know a lot of people like to solve the puzzles with no hints at all but for those of you who use them just be aware. If they add a "zen" mode that removes those annoying enemies so I can just dig and solve puzzles then I'll probably come back to finish the game, but for now, I'm done. Good but not great. EDIT: Zen Mode added with fewer enemies.
Thoroughly enjoying the game - the best mining based game that I have played for a very long time (and I started playing them in the 1980s) - Well executed - interesting game chat channel - and clearly well supported. Visually, the game is very attractive - there are a lot of controls to grasp, when playing via a keyboard on a PC, but the instructions and guides are very clear. When you die (and you probably will) just don't forget to get your next helpful little alien to go pick up all the pieces you dropped :)
This is a like a less fun version of Steamworld Dig. I didn't finish as apparently the boss fights are really annoying/difficult.
Something KEEPS eating my aliens!
