About This Game

Darkest Depths is a fast-paced, first-person shooter that features RPG elements and mind-blowing movement within a dungeon that becomes more and more dangerous as you traverse deeper. Randomized guns, upgrades, and levels make each play-through fresh and innovative.

Key Features

  • QUICK RUNS: If you're short on time then Darkest Depths is the perfect game for you. It is designed to be cleared in a single play-through which unlocks more stuff for future play-throughs. The game can be beaten in under an hour if you know what you're doing.
  • EVERY RUN IS DIFFERENT: Random enemies, random upgrades, random bosses within a random dungeon. You even start with a random secondary gun. You will never know what to expect.
  • OLD-SCHOOL NEW TRICKS: Extremely fast paced movement, OP guns and jump pads akin to Quake. Darkest Depths adds the ability to wall run, unlock up to ten jumps, increase your jump height and a combo system plus more.
  • INSANE UPGRADES: Ice Shards spinning around you like a buzzsaw, enemies' corpses spawn seeker missiles that track other enemies, reaction based Slo-Mo and much more.
  • COMBO SYSTEM: Kill enemies faster to get more gold, exp, a chance at an optional reaction based slow time ability.
  • LOOT CORPSES: Enemies have a chance to drop stat upgrades, health and money.

Feels like early access done right. I buy a lot of bad FPS's on Steam but DD seems like it has a foundation and an achievable plan. I'm not a fan of random rogue rooms, but jumping and wall-running around like Titanfall with overpowered weapons is good stress relief.

I'm a big fan of the FPS roguelike genre. So far this one plays like Painkiller but with fancier movement options, and Painkiller is one of my favourite FPS games of all time. There are also elements of something like Monolith in this, where the rooms are a fairly standard size and you have unlimited primary ammo. You can get pickups for more jumps, bonus xp, bonus energy, lower and higher difficulty, its pretty cool. I've not seen all the guns yet but those I've picked up feel good and impactful, even the starting pistol. The way you move in this feels very good and very old-skool, like it reminds me of doing huge leaps in Quake 3 or one of the low grav maps with all the jump pads in Unreal Tournament. Its good that a game in a very modern genre has that classic feel. The music is very active techno type music, which complements the action well and enhances the old skool feel. Its quite early in development at this point so the environments and menus can be simplistic in places, ...

Great game if you like a quick kill fest FPS. Deserves more attention than it is getting. Regular updates and improvements show the game is only going to get better.

You better love the fuck out of bunny-hopping because that's the entirety of movement in the game; it makes you move faster and you can only dash in the air. Makes me wonder why you're even allowed to run on the ground at all. The game is a 3d bullet hell; 30 enemies all shooting projectiles at you from the first room of the game does not sound like a good time to me; if that's your jam then awesome, but there are way too many games already relying on a bullet hell philosophy for its difficulty that aren't billed as such. Oh yes and let's not forget about the big enemies, usually around 4 per room, that take about 30 seconds of non-stop shooting to kill. Maybe this will get better, who knows? It's still (relatively) new and currently in early access. At this time, however, I would recommend either Immortal Redneck or Ziggurat; both are top-notch FPS rogue-likes. This game seems to be trying to go for the Paranautical Activity-esque philosophy of "fuck strategy, just jump everywhere ...

If you like Rogue-like games or FPS games then you should buy it. It's in Early Access, but it appears to get somewhat regular updates. Buy it or don't.

Ive only done 2 play-throughs. My TL;DR Verdict: Do not buy. 1> Game does not detect my controller. "Controller" from the menu is grayed out, even after reconnecting my wireless xbox 360 controller (and the wireless dongle) and restarting, the grayed out "Controller" option remains inaccessible and the game does not respond to my controller. ... the Steam description of this game said partial-controller support. I guess that apparently means including the word "controller" in your options menu is qualification enough for steams partial-controller support? :P 2> Both my playthroughs, the door to the room i opened, closed and locked, with me in the prior room.. as in... i must kill all the enemies in the room i am not inside of.... to open the door to the room where all the enemies are... Imagine NES Legend of Zelda, when you walk into a room and the door locks till you kill all the monsters... Now imagine that same room, has locked, with all the monsters in it. but your stil...

It's really a shame that almost the entire original game was lost in an accident, but the developer rebuilt the game from the ground up instead of giving up on it. It's literally a different game from what I played in 2019, and unfortunately it's nowhere near finished at the moment
