If this was an early access I would't write a negative review but seeing that this is the full product I feel like it's better to warn users looking at the nice price on sale. This game is truly a disappointment. Although it has semi-nice combat flow, nice looking art and some semblance of a story, it also has important gameplay flaws such as: -lacking mechanics -poor character control -meaningless and zero impact upgrades -room inconsistencies -enemy attacks take priority over yours regardless of the order of engagement -getting near enemies without dash is impossible but dash doesn't have invincibility frames This game somehow managed to make a fast-paced action seem tedious and non exhilarating and difficult games unrewarding. There are way better games to invest you time in and be passionate about.
The game play is what you've been looking for and the art slaps
ScourgeBringer is a one trick pony of a game with brutal difficulty, excellent combat, and absolutely nothing else. If you like the combat and the difficulty, you are in for a great time. If not, this game has nothing to offer you. Go into this expecting a roguelike with minimal variety between runs. This review is being written after getting exactly one win. I turned adaptive difficulty off for my playthrough, so my playtime might be a bit inflated as a result. I did not do a second run with any difficulty modifiers enabled. I believe there is one final zone locked behind doing this. Pros: - Combat is excellent. Like extremely good. Seriously, this combat is absolutely fantastic if you like this combat system even a little bit, you will get something out of this game. - Enemies, rooms, and bosses all feel fair and engaging to fight. The bosses felt surprisingly easy for how brutal the regular rooms and minibosses were. - Stringing together attacks feels incredible. - Each of the fiv...
ScourgeBringer

A brutally difficult yet rewarding rogue lite, with minor flaws
This game has captured my attention in a way that I never would've expected, and I started loving the game the more I played it. But as great as ScourgeBringer is: it isn't perfect
What I love
Each realm has clear themes and gorgeous pixel art that give every location a very unique look and feel, especially when paired with the music of each location. Speaking of music, the game has unique tracks that play for when you're in combat, out of combat, or fighting a boss. All of those tracks change as you move through the various realms to fit their theme. The music mainly consists of metal, with some other sounds/genres mixed in, which I think is awesome. But if it's not your thing, you can always mute it and play your own music The game's realms escalate in terms of hazards and different environmental changes. It gives each location a new gameplay gimmick that pairs well w...
Super tight controls, fast paced action, very difficult. Old school NES-tier difficult.
