About This Game

Mini Gal4Xy is a light strategy game set in space. We took all the parts of the '4X' genre that we love, then tried to make them more accessible. It's easy to use, open to everyone, but will also scratch that itch for 4X fans.

Mini-eXplore

  • A new galaxy is procedurally generated every time you start a game
  • Set your foot on more than 30 different kinds of planets
  • Customize your galaxy generation

Mini-eXpand

  • A synthetic and simple set of 3 different resources: Population, Science and Material
  • Use your Population to colonize new worlds and improve existing ones
  • Use your Material to build new ships and customize them
  • Use your Science to discovers some of the 38 available Technologies

Mini-eXploit

  • A simple 'slot system' allows you slightly customize your planetary incomes
  • Build new constructions to improve your planets
  • You can trade your extra resources for the one you're missing

Mini-eXterminate

  • Simple tactical battle system, with 3 phases
  • Customize your ships to adapt to the enemy
  • Fight one of the 4 enemy factions

There are a few minor things that hold me back from recommending this game, ultimately. The game UI is entirely a single-click interface, which is common for games designed for mobile devices, but it keeps the player from seeing vital information with mouse-overs or easily closing menus. This lack of on-screen information is a big drawback. For example, not noticing that a planet is ready to be colonized can be costly. The game starts off nicely with a simple tutorial, but the information misses the heart of the game, which is collecting 3 of 3 "stars" for each racial faction. After the first few unlocks, it becomes difficult to figure out how to accomplish this goal to progress, with little information on collecting enough points. And with few turns to operate, having a random tech-tree can make it impossible to reach the goal. I clicked through the galaxy on an ubuntu linux desktop, with radeon mesa graphic drivers. This game uses the Unity game engine, and it requires 180 MBs of d...

This is a good, fast paced, easy to learn game. If you like the 4x type of games but don't have 10 hours to sit and play one this is a good alternative I managed to complete 6 games and the tutorial in about an hour. Initially games are limited to 20 turns and don't take very long to play through which is something that I enjoyed about it. I unlocked the 25 turn game on my 5th game and played it on my 6th. I managed to so far unlock 3 other races, beside the starting race, and each of them play very differently. I can see this game has a lot of replayability as each time I started a new game it was vastly different having randomised planet layout and research trees. All in all I think this is a great game if you don't have enough hours in the day for the more complex 4x games or if you just want to relax and not overthink things.

This is a really great example of a genre distilled to its simplest experience - it covers all the basics, from the turn-based, node-based structure to the different resource types and the concept of faction asymmetry. It's deceptively addictive - feedback is immediate, and there's enough randomization that you always think you might have done better with another map layout or another combination of starting factors, so you're tempted to replay again and again. But even the longest games don't last very long - this isn't a massive time-hog. It's fairly shallow and simple as 4X games go, but that's fine - it's an easier game to play when you're strapped for time, or maybe not feeling able to concentrate as much, and it's still rewarding and varied enough to make you think about how you'd play differently next time. If you want to introduce somebody to 4X who feels intimidated by the genre, start with Mini Gal4xy. I can't think of a better distillation of the genre.

A fun, enjoyable 4x game. Simple, quick and easy to pick up. My only complaint is that the tutorial need to be expanded and maybe add some tool tips.

Note for Linux users: This game is listed as supporting Linux, but the native version did not work for me and crashed my xsession (Mint 19.3, kernel version 5.0.0-37, NVIDIA GeForce 940M, official NVIDIA driver version 435.21). However, I forced it to use the Windows version with Proton 4.11, and everything worked fine. This is a cool game. It basically is about playing through very short, heavily randomized strategy game sessions. After each session, you unlock new features, playable races, etc. which you can use in the next session. This makes the game highly replayable, and the 4x-lite approach (where you can play through entire games in 10-20 minutes) is fun and enjoyable. If you are looking for a very challenging strategy game, this is probably not for you, as it is quite easy. However, if you like the formula the game is based on, it will provide you with a good deal of enjoyment. All in all, I give this game a solid 8/10. There is room for more content, so I hope the developer...

Well crafted game. Simple to learn, intuitive to play, well presented. Worth the money. Game play is based around making the most efficient choices to expand your culture as rapidly as you can in a limited time period. Unlock resources on planets, move ships to explore colonise and attack other cultures. Play as different races with different attributes each game takes about 15-20 minutes. Would help to have a glossary explaining what all the research techs do and how to use them.

Had a lot of fun with this game. Each species plays very differently, and each game session goes by quickly. Time tends to pass quickly when you play this game too. The One More Turn is strong with this game. It hasn't got a huge amount of staying power, but randomized maps and tech trees keep it fresh for awhile. Still, for the price, it's a damn good bargain.

A fun but very short game. I like it as it can be played whenever you have a few minutes to spare.

I saw this game as a post on reddit... I don't think it was even promoted, it was a small post for a small game. So when I had an extra $15 bucks to spend on Steam, I bought this game alongside of 'Agony Unrated', I think they compliment each other. It's a game I can feel good about owning (this one), knowing that the developer is putting in an honest attempt and effort in making the most interesting and creative 4X as possible. It's an ethically and locally sourced 4X game, free of antibiotics and GMOs.

I'll try to keep it short as Mini Gal4Xy is. This game is a distilled 4X Strategy Game made with its base parts. It shows you a standard eXplore, eXpand, eXploit & eXterminate experience. The difference though is that this isn't a multiplayer game making it a solitary experience. This game is an arcade style with score building and randomness similar to Roguelikes. The reasons I give this game a positive review is that it is simple to learn. Which makes it a decent learning tool for those that don't know how to play or feel overwhelmed with other games of this genre. Think of it as a primer for people who want to understand the core parts of a 4X game. You use it before introducing the complicated stuff. Another reason, is that it has most faction arch-types distilled into it. A small, but welcomed positive. Flaws: *This is not made to be multiplayer, even though it feels like it could be. *It's arcade style has no ranking system, not even a built in one for local players. *Not much r...
